I once bought a car from Carmax and opted for a 3 year extended warranty (for $300). I’m glad I did, because just 4 months before the warranty expired, the car began burning through a quart of oil every week. I took it in for repairs and Carmax did over $1k worth of engine work and only charged me a $25 deductible, plus I got a free loaner car until my car was ready. Worth every penny.
I’m looking for a car and I checked Carmax website. They mentioned they have only 3 months warranty ( 4k miles ). So, Do they have any option to extend the warranty? And if yes then what’s the process?
Carmax is my go to place if I need to buy another used car. They beat traditional dealerships hands down! No hassle, no pressure. They even held the car for me before I arrived and let me test drive it. The sales rep was cool, he went over the warranties without pressuring me, let me pay cash and I was out with my new car in no time. The transaction was quick and easy.
Bought one car from Carmax for teen daughter. Generally very satisfied with the experience. It was transferred from one state away for no charge. We test drove the car for only 30 minutes. It had an air leak where the steering column passed through to the engine compartment. This should have been detected before we were permitted to test drive the car but it was fixed promptly. We used the carmax financing to expidite the purchase but daughter refinanced to a lower rate within 30 days. Carmax even provided permanent plates and registration. We bought the extended warranty and it was even honored at the Chevy dealer when we needed it.
Based on my experience. Carmax apparently does inspect their vehicles and make necessary repairs. Their 30 day return policy, for a full refund, is unique to used car dealers. That is probably the best reason to do business with them. On the negative side. Carmax significantly overvalues their cars. They also significantly undervalue trade in vehicles. Their non negotiable pricing benefits them more than the customer, IMO.
I just purchased a 2020 Jeep Wrangler from Camax. Had it transferred from Minnesota to Oregon. Paid the $1400 (gulp), but was completely satisfied with the transfer process. It took about ten days for the vehicle to arrive and for the inspection to be completed upon arrival. Because most of my paperwork was completed online, the in-store process on the day of my purchase was quick and easy. I was literally out the door with my new car in just over two hours. I arrived at my Carmax location here in Oregon after work at 7PM and was literally the last customer to leave the dealership that night at 9PM. A truly great experience all around. Thanks so much for sharing...
Not having the plan “the game” was the very best part. I feel like I’ve checked into Carmax before and the prices were too high. But this time around (in this crazy car market!) the price was competitive to other dealers.
I have bought and sold many times from Carmax including my current car .I have been happy every time. Carmax holds most of its paper and there rates tend to be high so I generally just pre arrange financing . I am not sure you get the best price but its very transparent and they dont care if you buy a 20,000 or 50,000 dollar car
Your Carmax experience is exactly the same as mine. I have bought two vehicles from them and am extremely pleased. Yes, they are more expensive but worth it.
Bought my current car from the CarMax in Plano, TX. Great car in excellent condition. What a joy! They were so nice and so to the point. Will buy my next car from CarMax.
Great video, I've sold cars to carmax, but never bought one. I can no longer afford a new car, so I must go to the used market, but I loathe traditonal dealers.
I'm confused I have never used this app so can u please walk ne throw the steps of how all this work I'm looking for a car from there on line but need help how two do it please n thank you

I just bought a truck from carmax yesterday and they call me today and said they had a glitch in their system and had already sold it to someone else. They refunded me my transfer fee that day and they paid my transfer fee on another vehicle. I was irritated but they made it right and we are still buying a vehicle from them.
At least get some piece of crap from carvana good job I don't know where they get their junk from anymore somebody bought a new car from them apparently in transfer they put some crappy tires on and all kinds of other issues with it and they didn't stand behind their warranty at all the only good thing was after 7 days you could trade it back he traded it back and said adios That was very turned off by carvana I know a guy who got a Mazda MX-5 Miata who wanted one and yeah he lived in Tennessee a few years back and they had down in Texas through CarMax and he's been very very pleased with it.
I bought a car from Carmax, and it was as painless as you say. The only "unpleasantness" was after I agreed to buy the car, the sales guy was like "which extended warranty do you want"? He probably spent 10 minutes trying to convince me to purchase one of their extended warranty plans. I felt kind of bad for the guy, I figure that's the only thing he makes much commission from, but held firm and didn't buy any of the extended warranty plans. Had already arranged financing through my credit union, so it was pretty quick and easy. I enjoyed not haggling over the price.
Hey you don't have to worry I'm sure if you want an extended warranty once it goes out you'll be getting all kinds of calls and emails and knocks on the door from different companies offering you 🤣🤣
We bought a nice 2018 Explorer Limited at the end of 2018 from CARMAX.High mileage car , but clean. For what I saved on the high mileage ,I bought a great warranty.Very happy with CARMAX . ILL never buy a new car again
A great video share, purchase a 4 runner from CarMax for the very same reason didn’t want all the drama just the car . Hopefully by purchase will be as smooth as yours . Thanks. Appreciate you 👊🏽👊🏽
Your very very wrong most of the profit Carmax gets is not from actually selling cars it’s from there auctions that they do you are right tho it is more expensive to buy from CarMax, but that’s because of all the warranty you get and the time put into the cars I promise you if you go to your local dealership, the cars you buy there will break down in six months @@wintermaryland3619
Not true. I compared prices on same model cars with same options between dealers and Carmax. Worst are the used car dealers, the small guys. Their markup is 100%. If they paid $ 5,000 for a car, they will list it for $ 10,000 and push their financing. By the time car is paid for the price will be close to $ 16,000.
Oh god, please don't ever be late on a payment. Carmax automatic service will blow up your phone several times a day. Even after working hours. Other than this, Carmax is pretty good.
It was like 4-5 days since it was several states away. There was travel time plus time to do any work to get it ready to sell. They give you an estimated timeline, and in my case it was ready a day before they estimated.
Not sure their prices are all that good. I just purchased a new 2023 from a dealer and just for fun i looked up carmax prices for the exact make model and trim. CarMax had a 2022 with 13K miles for the same price as my 2023 with 5 miles. Granted i had to go through 3 car dealers to get the price that i wanted. I guess it all comes down to is it worth the hassle.
In my situation, I was looking everywhere-Carmax, Carvana, traditional dealers in the area. The price that Carmax was offering at the time was in line with what I was seeing elsewhere. Now, granted, I bought this car at the height of the crazy car market, so you have to factor that in too
I had a wonderful experience with CarMax, although it’s kinda of a long story. I used to have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata, it started falling apart and Hyundai wasn’t honoring their warranty even though the car only had 65,000 miles on it. So I opted to just get another vehicle. Carmax offered me $12,000 for it, that’s $3,000 more than Carvana and $9,000 more than Vroom so obviously I took Carmaxs offer. I had originally purchased a 2020 Nissan Rogue with 7,000 miles for $24,000. I had it transferred from Atlanta Georgia to Indianapolis ($250), it took 3 days to get here. Unfortunately it looked ridden hard and put away wet, lots of dings and scratches, the interior was dirty and it smelled bad. So I kept it for about two weeks, I’ve heard about 1200 miles on it and I did a 30 day return. The return process was completely seamless, it only took about 20 minutes. In the end, I purchased a 2019 Nissan Rogue with 15,000 miles for $26,000. I had it transferred from Ft. Lauderdale Florida to Indianapolis ($700), it took 10 days to get here. They told me the car was in like-new condition before I paid the transfer fee and it did indeed show up in like-new condition. I did get Maxcare, it’s for for 5 years or 125,000 miles. It only cost $1,900 so I felt it was a no-brainer. There were no doc fees. Oh, and my interest rate through Carmax auto finance was 2.95% on the first Rogue. I actually just decided to pay cash for the second one.
Buying my first car in August or September. I have been heavily looking at Carmax. Looking to get a Subaru SUV. This whole car-buying process has me anxious. I've been looking at getting it from Carmax and doing it partially online.
The only sure thing about Carmax is you will pay too much. A couple of years ago, I purchased a new Toyota Corolla for my daughter. The local Carmax had a same year Corolla with a lesser trim and with 11K miles on sale for its no haggle price which was $1,200 more than the price I paid for the brand new Corolla. Carmax is good only for people easily separated from their money.
I dont understand the financing part? Do you need to first have the value of the car before doing the financing process IF you decide to do it with another credit bank?...
You need to have a rough idea of what you’re looking at and a budget. It’s like financing for a house. You get pre-approved for a certain amount and once you find the exact one, you’re close the loan with the exact details and amounts
Yeah they're overpriced but their caremax warranty makes it worth it cuz it covers all repairs if something go wrong what are you having to pay a deductible which is cheap
Oklahoma City, that’s where Kpop idol Alexa is from she won first place on American song contest. Anyway I’m so stressed if I should buy from car max or enterprise.
Revamp CarMax. Sell cars the same way Saturn used to. Additionally, fire all salesman who work for commissions. Pay employees a fixed desk-jocky clerk's wage and give raises based on customer satisfaction.
Did they not add or give you a taxes and fees sheet unto the original purchase price of the car? And if you did were you able to opt out and does it yourself? Example; the car online is listed at 27k but when they add taxes and fees the price goes up almost 2k 28710. Can you help please?
thank you so much for replying Dave. I live close to the Norman carmax location and just to make sure, I’m fully understanding the tax and fees sheet they add to the price of the vehicle is something we don’t need to pay for there correct?
@@jazzcarreon4784 I only paid the agreed price of the car plus their doc fee. I’ve always had to calculate estimated taxes myself, so I know how to budget at the DMV.
See that’s where I’m trying to understand because I have the the car price plus the tax and fees sheet. In the sheet there’s a processing fee of 399, there’s a excise state tax, there’s a sales tax, a registration fee, and several others tire fees which add like 1700 more to the original price. I feel that’s a rip off but I also heard that they actually give you a check for some of those fees to let u go do it yourself at the dmv so that’s why I’m so confused. Sorry to bother.
So just want to confirm in case anything has changed, we live in Tulsa and will be looking to buy a car next week that's being shipped to us, but on the financing side, they show that title tax stuff you mentioned is tacked on to what one would be financing, is this not accurate or do we truly pay for title stuff at dmv?! I know currently it shows $399 for their processing fee which sucks. Thanks
I think you CAN roll it into your loan and they would take care of it, and as a nationwide company they probably default to this in their system. But I’ve been in Oklahoma since 1985 and I’ve always paid for taxes and tags at the tag agency about 30 days out.
@@DaveDolphinOK we did confirm we could do either if I remember but for sure we chose to pay at dmv. Again wish the processing fee was $299 still from $399 but it worked out. Very smooth process with carmax. Initially we went with a 2020 crv but after a week just couldn't stand the engine in them. Found a 2022 Civic Sport in OKC shipping was free so we had it shipped arrived same day got it the very next day!
Sorry. I meant great video. I’m kinda disappointed that Carmax doesn’t deal with Alfa Romeo car. As I thinking of trading my Giulia in for an Audi Q7. Oh well.
I went ahead and added the car to my insurance, just in case something happened during the 24 hour test drive. If I didn’t wind up purchasing the car, I knew I could just remove it.
@@DaveDolphinOK thank you sir. Great video btw. Makes me more comfortable when purchasing thru CarMax. And still have yet to experience buying one at the dealership as well.
Looked like Brixton Square in the background at the beginning. Getting some Bueno? You should swing around the corner and see me some time. Metropolitan Bible Church.
That’s a great catch! I originally parked in front of the bank, but then I thought they’d probably be weirded out with me using a camera in front of their bank… so I moved over one building. DM me and let’s try and get lunch… I didn’t know you were so close!
Start to finish, the process was about two weeks. I paid the transfer fee on June 4. The car left Alabama on June 6 and arrived in OKC June 11. My appointment to pick it up for a test drive was June 16, and I purchased it on June 17. When I originally started the process, they said the car would be ready by June 27, then that was updated to June 18 when the car arrived in OKC. I appreciated that they under-promised and over-delivered on the timelines.
CarMax is over priced. Been looking on their site and the cost of used for many of the cars is more then the 2024 car I ordered. I didn’t even have to haggle they asked why I waned to buy the FWD, told them it was cheaper then the AWD, the dealer told me he would give me a discount to match the FWD price,, and that was it.. less then MSRP , no added fees beyond the $299 adds for admit fees… and it comes in 3 weeks.
Back in 2017 I was searching for just a pre owned car, didn't want an SUV. Couldn't find what I wanted. Was talking to a friend who told me to try Carmax. Found what I was looking for a 2014 Toyota Camry SE Sport. Took about 5 days since it was coming from another state. Purchased the car within 3 months starting having issues with the car. Carmax Couldn't find the problem. Took it to 3 Toyota Dealerships same thing. One day was vacuuming back seats noticed it was loose pulled up the seat and there was trash all under the back seat. Kids toys, dried up cereal, Crayola pens etc. Took pictures and emailed Carmax. Told me they could give me a $25 Voucher for detailing the car🤦♂️😆. Still having issues with my 2014 too much to go into must have been a flooded car. In 2019 decided to look for something. Tried another Carmax at a different location. They gave me the most for my trade in. I got a 2018 Toyota Camry LE, after a Month starting noticing weird things, from the engine , and Electrical glitches. Had a fender bender in 2020. The shop told me the noticed I had a previous frontal accident. I said this was my first accident. They told me my car was in a previous wreck. With all of that being said. Carmax buying process is smooth sailing. You will find what you are looking for. But never again will I get another purchase from Carmax. Two Toyota Camry with issues and my 2010 Chevy Impala was more reliable.
Agree on paying too much but I think this might be a better option than going into a used car lot and get eaten by sharks. I would say if you know nothing about cars then buy here in your budget and get the extended warranty. You will then at least have reliable transportation while you are paying off the loan.
My midlife crisis car was actually a Pontiac Grand Prix GXP ten years ago. It had the 5.3 V8. Once I got that out of my system, I switched to a Nissan Altima…
You’re doing 90 MPH AND blogging at the same time? Guess you don’t mind putting everyone on the road in danger. Too bad you didn’t get a speeding ticket, you sure deserved one.
Such a stupid comment. Do you think they could stay in business if thier cars didn't last way past 10 years? I live in Southern California and see early 2000s mid 2000s Hyundai and kia cars on the freeways all the time.
Carmax is the most crooked dealership on the planet. I wouldn’t buy a tricycle at that sorry place all the car there went into shop four times less than a month they offered to buy it back for half of what I paid for it in less than 30 days
Carmax prices are generally higher than what you can negotiate at a traditional dealer. They have the highest gross profit per unit unit in the industry. $299 for a doc fee is insane! I have NEVER paid more than $85 for a doc fee. Carmax is for uneducated idiots!
I don't know what the exact margin is for CarMax, but most retailers of any product buy their product at 45-65% of what they sell it for. The difference is called "margin" which is not the same as 'profit." The margin is what covers the cost of keeping the lights on, paying the associates, paying rent, marketing costs, shipping, insurance, etc. As someone who worked in a small business for over twenty years, I learned (unlike what thought before) that margin is what puts food on the table and keeps the business functional to serve the customers. The same principle applies to big business as well.
That’s definitely the Carvana story which is why I ultimately avoided them. But I never really found that to be true for Carmax… at least the sketchy title part.
That's Carvana. We purchased from Carmax in 2017 and were very pleased with our purchase. Was as painless as smooth as the video documented. I have excellent credit so secured my own financing but they still offered my 2.95 interest at the time.
What’s dangerous about purchasing from them ? They seem to be fairly easy to buy from , I have bought plenty of cars from all over and I go for the car that I want … I flew to Dallas one way to get Lexus is 350 and loved it ,, that was a Lexus dealership but again I shop for the car I want and best deal
YES, further proof that adults with a 6th grade education CAN BUY a car at CARMAX and adults with a 9th grade education WORK at CARMAX and can figure out how to sell a car with little drama. < shocking! > Yet another reason why NOT to watch YT videos and why NOT to ever visit car dealerships, lol.

Yeah, but how long did you have to wait for your shipping inspection because I’m going on three days and they said it would’ve been done by now.
Great video!! Thank you!!!!
Since there is no negotiating do you believe the prices set at CarMax tend to be fair
Yeah they're overpriced but their caremax warranty makes it worth it cuz it covers all repairs if something go wrong what are you having to pay a deductible which is cheap
Only thing i hate is that u never showed the full view of the car. I want a tour
That should be the next video!
You have a beautiful house!!!
Looks like a 1.6 Turbo Sonata. Not bad...
It’s actually the 2.0, but yes… and I still really like it
@@DaveDolphinOK That is a good engine. Better than the 1.6. Enjoy :)
Have you had any problems with your vehicle?
I had a spark plug go bad a few months ago, but I replaced them all and haven’t thought any more about it since. It’s been a great car so far…
Did you get pre-approved with your bank based on the price you saw online?
Exactly
Did they not add or give you a taxes and fees sheet unto the original purchase price of the car? And if you did were you able to opt out and does it yourself? Example; the car online is listed at 27k but when they add taxes and fees the price goes up almost 2k 28710. Can you help please?
Not in Oklahoma. Taxes and title are handled at the DMV 30 days afterwards…
thank you so much for replying Dave.
@@DaveDolphinOK much appreciate the quick response and feedback.
You really some guts wearing a lemon shirt the day you pick up a new car! Get video. Thanks.
I didn’t even notice I did that until I was editing the video… maybe it’s reverse psychology!
Sorry. I meant great video. I’m kinda disappointed that Carmax doesn’t deal with Alfa Romeo car. As I thinking of trading my Giulia in for an Audi Q7. Oh well.
Why are people still buying anything from this company!? I don’t know about you all but I detest getting ripped off
👍 thanks again!! :)
What insurance thing did u have to do
I went ahead and added the car to my insurance, just in case something happened during the 24 hour test drive.
How much did Carmax pay you?
100,000 tacos
This is a CarMax ad
How long did the transfer and car check take before you were able to go in to pick the car up
Start to finish, the process was about two weeks.
I appreciated that they under-promised and over-delivered on the timelines.
said he bought the car while the inventory key tags were still on the keys LMAO @6:00
Yeah, I’m not sure why they didn’t take those off. I had to cut them off myself 🤔
@@DaveDolphinOK no way LMAO. someone somewhere messed up
Fixed high prices.
Midlife Crises purchasing a sports car 🏎 a car that you don't need but want???????????
CarMax is over priced. Been looking on their site and the cost of used for many of the cars is more then the 2024 car I ordered. I didn’t even have to haggle they asked why I waned to buy the FWD, told them it was cheaper then the AWD, the dealer told me he would give me a discount to match the FWD price,, and that was it.. less then MSRP , no added fees beyond the $299 adds for admit fees… and it comes in 3 weeks.
Carvana is better option to buy, sell, trade in. I’m a big fan
Two Toyota Camry with issues and my 2010 Chevy Impala was more reliable.
what a crybaby
@@shaystern2453 everyone's a crybaby when you spend money and the product doesn't workout like it's supposed to.😄
Did you check the carfax to see that it was in a reported previous accident?
@@apfyang yes, and it wasn't on there. It was not reported. Carfax isn't always accurate. Or people being sneaky don't report things.
If you bought from Carmax, you probably paid way too much and/or have bad credit and had few options.
if you said this you probably work for a dealership
@@shaystern2453 Nope
Look into the CarMax way
It's not what you think it is this isn't JB byrider or section 8 R Us or buy here pay here crap.
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist True, but you still paid too much.
Agree on paying too much but I think this might be a better option than going into a used car lot and get eaten by sharks. I would say if you know nothing about cars then buy here in your budget and get the extended warranty. You will then at least have reliable transportation while you are paying off the loan.
hyandai for a mid life crisis car:? sad
My midlife crisis car was actually a Pontiac Grand Prix GXP ten years ago. It had the 5.3 V8. Once I got that out of my system, I switched to a Nissan Altima…
@@DaveDolphinOK Altima? are you a blk baby momma?
Big downside is its overpriced.
Even if your credit was perfect car max ripped you off
you should name this video you've been scammed

No way a Hyundai lasts 10 years. You'll be lucky to get half that.
You're living in 2005. They are insanely good nowadays
Such a stupid comment. Do you think they could stay in business if thier cars didn't last way past 10 years? I live in Southern California and see early 2000s mid 2000s Hyundai and kia cars on the freeways all the time.
Carmax aside, he bought a Hyundai as a midlife crisis car? The crisis will come when the engine catches fire.
@@jduey2396 no, that's Toyotas
Carmax is the most crooked dealership on the planet. I wouldn’t buy a tricycle at that sorry place all the car there went into shop four times less than a month they offered to buy it back for half of what I paid for it in less than 30 days
Their cars are overpriced to start with. You may think you are getting a good deal, but you are not.
Do your research...
Well sorry to break it to ya but the dealerships charge more.
MSRP on a 2024 Civic Si is 30k and the three dealerships I went to want 34,35 and 38500 after market adjustment.
@@spammerscammer The rape continues...
Carmax prices are generally higher than what you can negotiate at a traditional dealer. They have the highest gross profit per unit unit in the industry. $299 for a doc fee is insane! I have NEVER paid more than $85 for a doc fee. Carmax is for uneducated idiots!
Totally agree. Also, if you haven't pulled a carfax chances are you bought a vehicle in an accident.
How these parasites wake up every morning
Carmax adds 100% to the actual value when they sell a car.
Very dangerous purchasing from these outfits. Folks not getting titles, close to bankruptcy
That’s definitely the Carvana story which is why I ultimately avoided them. But I never really found that to be true for Carmax… at least the sketchy title part.
You're thinking the carvana not CarMax carvana does that they've got very low ball schemes unfortunately
Carmax are Crooks !!!
?
Why and whats your experience?
YES, further proof that adults with a 6th grade education CAN BUY a car at CARMAX and adults with a 9th grade education WORK at CARMAX and can figure out how to sell a car with little drama. < shocking! > Yet another reason why NOT to watch YT videos and why NOT to ever visit car dealerships, lol.
Then why are you watching this video?
and listen to spew from people named after a body part
@@DaveDolphinOK @shay stern I will keep it brief and to the point. Proverbs 1;7 and Proverbs 23:9. And yes, I've been around the car industry a good chunk of my adult life in the USA and Latin America; both foreign and domestic.
