That's what I was just thinking, we must never have played the original Mega Man, because I barely remember anything here. Must have been 234 etcetera.
Have you considered installing the NES Blinking Light Win? It's a mod that replaces the 32 pins with a top load style slot that still front loads, also has a lockout chip on it, so it makes things region free/ easier to load properly without a dirty lockout pin or bad contact.
To this day i still get angry just seeing that begining part of gutsman stage. It makes me so happy to see that there is a way to get this broken gun without clearing gutsman stage first thus making my childhood nightmare skip able
I still remember seeing that select trick in a Nintendo Power Classified information article and since then that's how I always been beating the rock golem Its so easy and I also do it at the end too for Dr Wiley ,may be cheap but very effective !!!!!!
Always found the original to be the hardest, love the megaman series. How do you do that glitchy move in elecman's stage to get the gun without gutsmans weapon?? Will it work on my ps4 version ??
The legacy collection versions should let you do it too, they are just emulating the original. You can still do the pause trick, so the zips and screen wraps should still work.
@@MrFatsluttytone I actually like Mike a lot. Without him, I don't think James would have kept doing the AVGN. From what I heard, he was the one that kept urging him to keep going after James did the first three. Then, while James was filming the movie, Mike kept making videos to keep the channel and website alive. I'm also a huge fan of Board James. It's probably my favorite thing those guys made. Also, Mike did A LOT of the work on Monster Madness. He's an underappreciated guy. I kinda look at him and James as having a yin/yang or Good Cop/Bad Cop kinda relationship. They balance each other out.
rangoononline that’s because Mike has no career, skills or value to society and knows that without cashing in on AVGN he’d be fucked. So he uses James’ work to give himself a platform with which to profit from.
What is that special platform beam Arcus gets? Is that the only way to get it? Because if so, that’s super cool and so ahead of its years for Nintendo. (Even though I’ll expect a differing answer.)
The first game is still good, but 2,3, and especially 4 are better games in my opinion. The first game clearly was definitely a bit rough around the edges.
Hi everyone, I really enjoyed this speedrun here and laughed at the way Arcus "cheated" his way through the game. I can't but wonder, though, is there a lot of research needed to be done on these games to "hack the glitches" associated with them? Or do Arcus and others just observe others' speedruns and seek to do better? Anyway, great speedrun, Arcus, thanks.☺
When I was a kid, I discovered a couple of them. Then watched other classmates discover or perfoming another one and so on. So I think, the second is the one I first though about.
This was a decathlon of games, so all the splits were in between games. This video only shows the last one in the series. However, it still might have been nice to hear "clunk" at the end of the whole run, or perhaps for the video to have been edited so that we could have heard the clunk at the beginning of the Mega Man split, the final leg of the overall run.
Hmm. I don't know how he did it specifically. Mega Man 1 had a fun feature though where hitting something with the elect beam, and then pressing select (pause) about a bajillion times in a row reely fast. Or just having a controller that'd let you map that to what ever button. Alas that feature isn't in other megmans. At least as far I know.
Yep! Here's how it works. You know how the bosses turn invincible for a bit after every hit? There's a timer that counts down to make the enemy vulnerable again. Pressing select pauses the game but doesn't bring the weapon select up, and that doesn't actually pause the boss's invincibility timer. So if you fire a piercing weapon like Ice Slasher, Rolling Cutter, or Thunder Beam at an enemy, and then pause, the timer will keep going and the projectile can hit them again when you unpause!
Ive been watching you for years in the corner peaking out every now and then licking my lips no dude your awesome as a shitty long time player of megaman i literally play it every week while my daughter does gym which i should do as well i sit in my car but why not flame first so you can just faceroll
I'm very late but... The invincibility period on a boss keeps going when the game is paused, so they'll become vulnerable again while paused. This means if you pause and unpause with good timing while a projectile is touching the boss, they'll get hit multiple times
Cool. There's a bonus set of Mega Man achievements at RetroAchievements just dying for you to collect them, specifically the Mr. Perfect achievement. Be one of the 24 others to show they are a master of the game!

It will never cease to amaze me how much better they made Mega Man between 1 and 2.

2 seconds in, we witness the rise and fall of the Mgagem Naamnm empire, swiftly overthrown by Mega Man.
Nice run, by the way, Arcus!
That moment the rooster wakes you up in the morning, but you ignore it to due to a Megaman speed run! Good man.

Wow this looks so different from how I remember yet I remember so much of it vividly
I like how megaman looks like Astro Boy at the end of the credit.
Fun fact: Mega Man's design was inspired by Astro Boy. There's even a manga series where he has the same face as him.

You can also replay elecman's stage to get it, his weapon will clear the blocks as well.
Bruh the begining of gutsman's stage is easy as fuck once you learn it, the true hell is Ice Man's stage, fuck that level.

Good run

Great run and wonderful stash
Nice run arcus :)
Why did this look like it's in slow motion for some reason?
Because your mom wasn't rubbing your back while you watched like she does when you play.
The NES lags at times. I'm playing through this game right now and the speed outside of lag is the same, maybe Mega Man 1 is slower than the sequels?

There you go! Have at you . . . mission complete, success ;)

R.E.M. stole Elecman stage music. Their song "All the Right Friends" is literally the same melody
I think megaman stole, Bon Jovi "She Don't Know Me" song, for the stage of elecman
I really don’t like playing that game. This saga only gets good with its sequel. Your skills on it are still very impressive.

Is that a commonly known trick of pausing continuously when you hit the bosses for an almost single hit kill on the bosses?
Hmm. I don't know how he did it specifically. Mega Man 1 had a fun feature though where hitting something with the elect beam, and then pressing select (pause) about a bajillion times in a row reely fast. Or just having a controller that'd let you map that to what ever button.
