He actually was an average drummer that never practiced so he never reached his full potential and was often too busy entertaining off the drumset which sometimes affected the bands performance.
No one was doing that back in this time that I was aware of. You can’t help watch Keith as I still memorized to see him play. He was the Gene Krupa of his time. After seeing Gene play you can tell Keith must have idolized him and got some moves from him. Cheers.
Classic Keith, from the mid-'60's to very early '70's, there was no one like him. He was untouchable on Live At Leeds and Who's Next. Then, sadly, his lifestyle caught up to him...
@Steven Hicks I live in the sweltering heat of Florida. I’ve had dreams of living in Alaska. I hate it here so much but I’m worried I’d freeze to death in Alaska. What do you think my chances are moving there and surviving? I really am thinking heavily about it. I just have a feeling I might regret it. I have over $140,000 saved. What do you think my chances of assimilation to Alaska from the humidity of Florida would be. This is a real possibility I might do. I just need some advice. Thanks!!!
I'm a drummer of about 40 years and I still watch this clip in utter amazement at Keith's prowess... his hands are like lightning... when he's young and hungry, there's still no one who could touch him... some of the fills he does are superhuman!!! They don't seem possible...as my favorite drummer once said about him... it's top bad that the booze and pills caused him to be washed up by the time he was 30, because he was an absolute MADMAN behind the kit... (By the way...it was the late, great Neal Peart who said that... another huge Moon fan)
Keith Moon is amazing. Such great footage of him in this! His drum fills sound like a a drum set falling down a flight of stairs yet perfectly on the beat. He is so [properly] idolized by drummers but I can't think of any drummers that emulate his style really.
Haha.. yeah, I love Keith's drumming, too! Although "prefectly on the beat" NEVER applied to his playing! ENtwistle knew how to lock in with him, however, despite the challenge.
You would need maximum concentration to do what he did otherwise it would have been a chaotic noise and nothing else-listen to I can see for miles, fantastic !
young Keith there, whirling around his kit like a dervish - many years before the drink and drugs grabbed him. Fresh faced young men with their lives ahead of them. RIP Keith and John ❤️ The Who
His mid-60's drumming was great too. It was obviously a bit more sharp and R&B driven. The production added to the overall charm too. His 70's sound was more expansive and epic due in part to the production but also the fact that his kit became larger around the time of Quadrophenia.
I'm obsessed with the official video for this song because every person in that video is heartbreakingly gorgeous and the production on the recording is spot on...but this live version, despite its flaws, is moving. It's so raw and makes the music seem more tangible...this is the stuff that makes bands get together.
Very pychedelic! And Keith moon looks so young!Maybe the time before "speed" took him over. He was a genious drummer, with a very personal style of playing the drums! His sound was very close to the melody and guitar riffs. I don´t know any drummer, who ever tried to cover his unique, grazy style!!!
I have a full concert DVD of The Who live in 1975. Believe me, Keith hadn't lost it one bit. If anything he'd become even more intense. He did lose it though around 1977-78.
love Entwhistle's falsetto - reminds me of the bass player for Mott The Hoople on All the Young Dudes. wish the sound & vid synched up properly. Still - a great take from a great band
Agreed. Best rock drumming I can think of. There are lots of drummers and computers that can play faster and more complex beats but I've not seen or heard anything with as much style and magick as Moon. Great song too.
MY STRONG PASSIONS THE WHO BAND!!! Roger Daltrey, Keith Moon, Peter Townshend, and Johnn Entewistle, FOREVER, AND EVER in my heart, ETERNALLY. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰🥰💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝
I love this video/performance... all 4 guys doing their own thing/all parts coming together/the sneer on Daltry/the utter indifference of the OX/always interesting Moon/and the great early 12 string sound of Pete
I loooove DALTREY'S DELIVERY here!!!! Ir's always easier to see the greatness of the other 3 (cause it's more apparent & "in your face": Pete's windmills, John's unreal fingers, Keith's barbaric power...), but Roger it's a much, much, better singer than people usually realize.
The (also true) perception of Keith is that his drumming was chaotic and sloppy but there's a lot of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa influence in there too. Genius in the madness.
Those who say The Beatles didn't write their own materail are complete ignorants ! The Beatles wrote almot all of their material, and as of Rubber Soul album, they wrote all the songs in their albums !!! Please, to those who say The Beatles didn't write their songs, please do your homework and do resarch on The Beatles.
More popular in later years than when it was new. US DJ's missed a good one here. Keith Moon was only 18 here but a seasoned pro behind the drums. More energy than I ever had.
@StanleySindler Yeah very true. Also not for best skills but the perfect drummer to me is John Densmore, if ya listen to The Doors live, just every random thing he does just makes the song perfect, he always knows when to add something and what to add, his timing is impecable. Alot of great drummers. What I like about Neil Peart is that he can play a 35min song, and then replay it playing exactly the same
This is the only video I've seen where not only does Entwistle get more than 2 seconds of screen time, but actually spends more time on camera than Townshend!
A 4th member, Peter Townshend, can be seen briefly.
Can't get enough of Keith Moon on the Drums
He was amazing. He was just a kid in this video too.
Damn he was quick. An amazing sense of timing. So glad, I got to see him live, but I wish it was more than once

@@noahd4210 Duh.
I've read that Keith was the main attraction during the early years of The Who. This video proves it.
He should be in the center of the stage, Just like the two drummers from The Monsters
No one was doing that back in this time that I was aware of. You can’t help watch Keith as I still memorized to see him play. He was the Gene Krupa of his time. After seeing Gene play you can tell Keith must have idolized him and got some moves from him. Cheers.
the only time i’ve seen john more than pete in a who performance video
I never realized how much I liked the Who because of Keith Moon.
I like Keith
But I mostly like The Who mostly because of Pete
keith has always been the star in the band to me
Keith Moon's drum fills are supreme. No one could drum like him in 1965.
The glory days of youth! Sucks to get old.
I came here for Keith Moon
Me too..😂
I saw his shirt and I wasn't aware that he worked for Target haha
Love the "Mod" period of the Who!
Yea the style and their attitude was so hip
Classic Keith, from the mid-'60's to very early '70's, there was no one like him. He was untouchable on Live At Leeds and Who's Next. Then, sadly, his lifestyle caught up to him...
He was outstanding on Quadrophenia, too.
KEITH JOHNN MOON!!! The Prince of The Drumms MY STRONG INFFLUENCE l love too much him!!! 👑👑👑👑🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
I see Keith went to Target to get his nifty shirt...ha ha. His drumming is best described as "controlled chaos". Love it!
I think that's what the Mods in the U.K.called a French Bicycle shirt.

@Steven Hicks you’ve got excellent taste in music btw!👍🏻
John's backing vocals and ooo-ing are great

My bird really likes this one.
Have you tried playing your bird Polly by Nirvana? It's the #1 choice, among parrots!
Your girl has good taste in music
Saw the who in Albany NY in 1969. 13th row. I counted 47 amplifiers. Couldn't hear for 2 days!!!
I saw this Shindig. Made me want to be a drummer. I was 14.

Whoever put this version back on yt, thank you. Moon. Badass.

This clip contains THE BEST EVER rock drumming performance recorded on film.
Agreed!!
Agreed!!
you have no clue do you
Love the way KM is like hes focusing on some distant point...like hes in some kind of trance...genius of the very highest calibre RIP KM
He's watching himself on the monitors.
RIP Keith and John
❤️ The Who
No way can this be 50 years ago! #feelingveryold :(
I first saw the Who in 1979, and every time I've seen them they open with this song. I can dig it!
fucking Moon - in awe of the guy's drumming
He was incredible, too bad he was a total idiot otherwise. :-P
His behavior was wild but he was a very intelligent man.
I just don’t see how anyone considers him an incredible drummer, he was actually quite average
Moon was "in the zone" on this one!
Theres nothing better than watching Keith Moon on a standard size kit.
Oh man. Just love The Who. They played this at the Fillmore East, 10/2/1969. I've still got the tkt stub $5.50.
His mid-60's drumming was great too. It was obviously a bit more sharp and R&B driven. The production added to the overall charm too. His 70's sound was more expansive and epic due in part to the production but also the fact that his kit became larger around the time of Quadrophenia.

Love the who
Holding a Danelectro longhorn at my chest right now. Punchy but round like no other
As a teenager, I'm like: these men know how to rock!
30 years later, I'm like: wow, these young kids are phenomenal.
Keith looks 14 years old lol but he is almost 20 in this video
Very pychedelic! And Keith moon looks so young!Maybe the time before "speed" took him over.
He was a genious drummer, with a very personal style of playing the drums! His sound was very close to the melody and guitar riffs. I don´t know any drummer, who ever tried to cover his unique, grazy style!!!
Grande Keith Moon, verdadeiro mestre da bateria.
My Dad has always said that Keith Moon looks like he’s driving a stagecoach when he plays the drums.
Keith Moon, the Master.
Keith was such a badass drummer in the 60s, so animated . Long live the who .
RIP Keith Moon 1946-1978
I have a full concert DVD of The Who live in 1975. Believe me, Keith hadn't lost it one bit. If anything he'd become even more intense. He did lose it though around 1977-78.
RIP John Entwistle 1944-2002
Drums and guitar reached the highest level.
love Entwhistle's falsetto - reminds me of the bass player for Mott The Hoople on All the Young Dudes. wish the sound & vid synched up properly. Still - a great take from a great band

These guys arguably were more up front than the Beetles, Stones, Cream, Kinks ? South London`s finest, Rog was Dynamite
Thank you, in my head, in my own opinion, The Who is the greatest band ever. That's it.
Yes, it's a joy watching him, and the flow of his playing. It is amazing!
I love this video/performance... all 4 guys doing their own thing/all parts coming together/the sneer on Daltry/the utter indifference of the OX/always interesting Moon/and the great early 12 string sound of Pete

@tatethompson1234 Big fan of John Densmore too, love his sound he's got. Perfect for the doors. Very underated i think.
Regards.
Just love Roger
Keith was a God.......
Keith was insane . Really insane . I really mean it. I saw the" Who " in 75 . It was totally insane and I was wasted. Really wasted. 😵💫
There was only one guy who could play drums like that. No doubt a total shooting star.
Their first and best single
Absolutely brilliant. Hard to believe they were barely out of their teens here, in fact Keith wasn't (born 1946).
that drum sound and keef are glorious!!
Keith is awesome in this perfomance
never mind my earlier comment- he is awesome whenever they show him.
immense.
Screaming girls, A Rickenbacker 360 through a big Marshall, long hair, British accent..aah, the mid 60s!
Yes, good observation. Keith was a lovely lad and reminds me of a young Mrs Doubtfire.
Just reading "dear boy", the biography of KM. Amazing stuff
he can really play the drums they wernt lieing when they say best in the world ! its so effortless for him !
The (also true) perception of Keith is that his drumming was chaotic and sloppy but there's a lot of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa influence in there too. Genius in the madness.
KEITH MOON HAD WINGS NOT ARMS!!!!.

they were so young here
At least Moon's enthusiasm made up for Entwhistle's extreme boredom.
great song
I hope they play this during Super Bowl XLIV's halftime.

Since when did a drummer get so much camera time 🔥
Just fabulous.
Play it at .75 speed for a more trippy version.
Great song & clip/live sound ! The screen graphic "WHO" looks the same as what they used on "DR WHO" at the time.
Woow, thanks fro this spots, 1964
This is the only video I've seen where not only does Entwistle get more than 2 seconds of screen time, but actually spends more time on camera than Townshend!
Gosh they all look so young
Roger was 21, Pete and John were 20, Keith was turning 19 around the time of the performance
God, how they camera men loved TIGHT close ups back then!
They all look so very young and little shy ☺️. Well, comparing to how they performed latter on 🤣. Best band ever ❤️❤️❤️🥰love The WHO.
when this vids on you just want the camera on him the whole way through because its fucking mind blowing watching him!!!
Keiths the man oh yeah.
The Moon really loved that shirt! What a fckin drummer he was. Respect.
@moontheloon518 yeah the 2 greatest rock drummers ever bar none
you are so right. you've got neal peart, john bonham. and keith moon and moon is it.
Moon on fire 🔥
Wow, that's great. Roger looks like he just came from the futbol field - no "rockstar" pretensions - just singin' the song. Thanks!
@pillowcase001 one of the best for sure!
Amazing
Classic performance. I saw it when it first aired....shhhhh....
ilverme: That's a very clever and well thought out name for the dance. Well done...

Like watching a Hanna Barbera cartoon... oh those hippies.
The great Keith Moon
