    Played in a band that supported the Who twice .Keith moon borrowed our drummers set of Ludwig’s after a truck load of thei gear was stolen that day .Promised he would give it a good work out but not destroy it at the end.Our drummer had PTSD ( ha ha ) for a couple of hours after but was true to his word .Great guys .Pete destroyed a brand new Strat on same night,

    Keith Moon is one unique drummer wow! He really was doing things that nobody was doing back then infact even now those fills rolls and phrases have so much feel soul, he absolutely carried the entire songs melody you could take John and Pete out of this track and you wouldn't miss them at all but when you combine Rogers singing with Keiths drumming it really is a beautiful and spectacular piece of music here. 😊❤️🔥

      You are so right. Keith Moon took the drums from sitting in the back of the band. He kicked everything out of his way. And put the drums right in front of the band. Keith Moon is still and always will be the greatest drummer of all time.

      You would not think Daltrey had a clue about singing when he was say 23 in 1967 but he was actually brilliant. And the point is this one of their greatest tracks never really featured on any significant Who LP or compilation. The.bsnd was so disorganized that their greatest tracks say naked eye or much of Pete's best writing in 1977-1983 was either badly recorded, appeared only on Townshend Solo's or abbreviated live cuts.

    How I miss this music. The greatest rock band ever with amazing stories/lyrics, beautiful singing, power without vulgarity and without resorting to cheap technical tricks, the best live show I've ever seen, and I've seen 'em ALL.

      Destroying their gear was not a cheap technical trick?

    • @delta1109
      @delta1109 Місяць тому

      @@plinthley It started as a real human reaction to some of the frustrations and difficulties they faced. It evolved into a rather expensive🤭 technical trick as they had to keep on repairing and buying new equipment. Obviously the trick aspect of this became pretty obvious. What I meant by "cheap technical tricks" (perhaps badly articulated) was that they really played their instruments and sang their vocals (in perfect tune btw, and didn't rely on technically created visual effects to bolster the over all show as is much more prevalent today.

    POPSIDE Swedish TV WHO Special, recorded June 3 and broadcasted June 5, 1966 (as indicated on private DVD : Maximum Who - Early TV Performances 1965-67)...The rivalry between band members is obvious here as you see Roger, the Shepherd's Bush geezer, coming up with the mike to John and the Quiet One says : "Keep it away!" telling Roger to stay away from him while he attempts to be spokesman for the band just this once, ushersing a few words between his teeth to introduce the next song : "Hullo, I'm John... Next number is... Kids! is alright" and Roger applauds loudly, caughing to stop himself from larfing out loud, while John thumbs him to remain down, and Moon slaps his sticks applauding too in sarcastic support. Right after, during the song start, Roger turns to John singin' : "... That's Fine..." signaling it was ok, relax dude... Must've been fights backstage! (lol)

    Sometime in the early '70s (I believe) one of Pete's assistants (could have been a manager) asked him what Pete wanted him to do with a bunch of film and live recordingsfrom the '60s that were building up. He kept bugging Pete about it, and Pete finally said,"Oh, just take it out and burn the lot." And he DID! Pete-- in his autobiography-- said that was one of the big mistakes of his life.

    • @edmurphy7217
      @edmurphy7217 2 роки тому +2

      No, not really. The Who taped mostly every show on their US tour in the fall of 1969, for a future live album. Pete had no desire to go thru hours and hours of shows,so he supposedly told soundman Bobby Pridden to burn all the tapes. They would just tape their Feb 1970 concerts at Leeds and Hull, and get the record from there. Live At Leeds has since been named the greatest live rock record by many rock fans. As for the tapes: Bobby and Pete insist they were burned. However, parts of over a dozen of those shows have turned up as bootlegs. So, the burning story is highly suspect.

    • @edmurphy7217
      @edmurphy7217 2 роки тому

      @edmurphy7217 2 роки тому

      No, I’m questioning your memory of Pete’s book. Not to mention, Pete’s entire life (and book) has been filled with contradictions. I assure you, the dates, names, and specifics I’ve provided to your “version “ of this story, are 100% accurate. The ONLY part that is in any dispute is , if in fact the audio tapes from the 1969 Fall US tour were actually burned in a bonfire. ( Incidentally, Pete has claimed that he burned them, and later changed it to Pridden. But, that’s just Pete being Pete) I merely cleared up your vague memory.

      Maybe in England, but youth actually started in the late thirties in America with the early Jitterbugs and Bobby Soxers, lindy-hopping to Swing Jazz... The First TEENs were into Jazz Swing, the forerunner to Rock'n'Roll revolution ;-)

      Sublime Music Channel , maybe teenagers were non-existant as an entity OUTSIDE of the States, but it was ALREADY in the US; you people from Britain, and everywhere else, even in HK you had to wait for the late 50’s for Youth to be reckonned as a force, economical and political (it was a States’ invention after all! ), I’m sorry to contradict you.

Are they lip singing or actually singing because this version is slowed down and the vocals are pretty simplified and you can see Roger sing synchronized with the song pretty well at some times but there are other times when he puts the mic away and his voice is still going, also the other guys don't have a mic but are still heard

      It was a technical issue, most TV studios were to small to afford proper amps and record them live. That's why all Top of the Pops performances were synched.

    • @cejannuzi
      @cejannuzi Рік тому

      Back then they would often record a version of the song in the TV studio, then lip synch and fake play to that version of the song. This one sounds different than the regular single and album versions. The vocals surely are.
