I was not going to say anything about this but... Last winter, after watching an episode where you went out to a junk yard in the rain, I ordered up one of you zippered hoodies. After two weeks, of looking at the Tspring sight and trying to figure out when it would show up (kept saying..in production or something) I told them to cancel the order (they charged my card the night I placed it). The robot answering my email enquirers kept assuring they would refund my card immediately... They never did. I like your channel and have subbed for a long time but...Tspring..or whatever they are calling themselves now are bsht. A $52 lesson learned. Keep up the good work.
He is but no one would film unethical behavior if they weren't ethical. So you're getting mostly ethical mechanics on you tube unless they do a mixture and only film the ethical repairs. Not saying Eric, just saying who would be crazy enough to film unethical repairs?

The give and take with Mrs. 'O' is priceless. It really brightened my day. Of course watching a pro at work even on brake stuff is always educational. Keep on keeping on sir!
in this sad day and age... these 2 are a breath of much needed fresh air ! thanks .... oh the wife wanted me to say Hey to you guys and also from me to.
someday she will end up leaving him for a black man - all mechanics end up getting divorced - women hate us cause we all smell like grease even in bed making love
You and Mrs O have been married 20 years and work full time together and still act like a couple newlyweds, I love it! You guys need to do a video on How to keep the fire burning for a good marriage, a lot of us could benefit from the advice. Thanks for what you guys do with this channel
It is pretty weird, but I could smell this video the entire time I watched it. Smoked brakes is a smell that can't be mistaken, unless it's a smoked clutch.
Mrs.O is like a ray of sunshine when she's in a vid . I haven't set the park brake in a car or light truck that I've owned in at least 30 years . Living in northern Canada and having the cables freeze solid overnight a few times brakes you of that habit .
Appreciate you taking the time to chat with me the other day. I know your busy and I just stopped in. But was a refreshing pit stop on my way home. Nice little town in a beautiful setting! God bless ya man and keep doing what your doing!
I had also stoped by and talked with Eric a minute or two. I’m from Chicago and was out that way for a family reunion and we were on our way to the Falls before we went back home. Nice location and town. It’s all about the people. There were some others that also stopped in to say hi to Eric when I was there. Probably the most popular person in town!!
My buddy and I did a similar job for a neighbour but with an interesting twist. Same customer complaint except a front wheel. Parts cannon fired same as yours except he didn't need a rotor. Bled the new caliper and off for a test drive to discover the problem not fixed. Super hot and same smell. After a fair bit of discussion we changed the only thing left, except the rotor, the brake hose and that solved the problem. My buddy said it took thirty years of automotive experience to see another one. I have fifty years and had never seen an internally collapsed brake hose until that day. The master cylinder had enough pressure to push past the obstruction and activate the brake but wouldn't release properly so lots of heat from the friction.
Your videos are both informative and entertaining and the interaction between you and Mrs. O are priceless. It is nice to see an ethical shop these days in this crazy world of the up sell.
Living close to a mountain, you can always tell when a new SWIFT driver figures out the rectangular pedal is the brake and rides it to the bottom of the grade. If you're lucky, there's even a grease fire. Happy Sunday Mr & Mrs. O.
Great channel, Eric's narration makes this channel. That was not just Jeep brake smoke, that was the smell a Chryco product makes just before the big KaBoom. Of course I am talking about how there will come a day in the not too distant future when your Jeep product will not only let you down, but it will drain your bank account to zero. True story. How do you make a Jeep go faster? Ask the Tow truck driver to, "Step on it". Jeep, literally keeping the towing Industry in business.
I've totally upped my brake-job game since I started watching your videos, and my brake-job game was pretty good to start with. Now my brakes are smooth as butter!
That’s a damn good job. I also think it’s fantastic that you and Mrs. O can work together like this. Not every married couple can do that as successfully as you. You have a true family business and I think that’s a fantastic thing
That happened to me a few years back when I did the brakes on my truck. Aftermarket caliper was fine when I did the brake job, it moved back into the bore ok, but after driving for a while the damn thing seized up and it was barbecuing the pads and rotor. Just one of those things I guess. Have a great night, Eric👍
I've been watching you now for almost 3 years. Learned a lot about many different parts of different types of cars. This is the first time that it was the same vehicle I have. Always wondered how the electric brake system actually worked. Because I have to wear a brace on my right leg it sure makes it much easier to set parking brake on a hill. Great videos keep up the good work. James from Phenix City, Alabama
If you have a foot operated manual parking break, you should be using your left foot for the break & parking break. Your right foot is for operating the accelerator pedal. If you are using your right foot to set the break, you are doing it wrong & unsafely.
I have a 17 Cherokee. I have my Parking brake set to Activate when I put it in park. I can never forget to set it. Funny when Eric said Whoa agressive as he tried to back out before releasing. It won't let you go anywhere if it is set.
I'm well aware of all the different types of hand controls available for handicapped persons. As a tool and die machinist and fabricator, I have made and installed many variations for other people. But, my initial comment was directed at how much I love the ease of having a button to engage and disengage the parking brake on my Jeep Cherokee.
Hi, fyi: I had a break hose that looked ok on the outside. But found it had come apart on the inside such that, when you pushed on the break, pressure flowed to the caliper, and when you released the pressure would stay. It burned out several set’s of pads, before we found it. Great videos. GB from Michigan.
Great video eric...with all the crap thats going on in the world i can turn on my laptop go to south main auto site and i get a massive smile and a sense of comfort going on picks me up every time....professionalism and caring to a very high standard towards customers ... and to mrs o who i know is the backbone to it all ...regards joe from sunderland uk..
Also, I’ve got to comment on your humility! Your skill at repairing motorized equipment is incredible! But, your admission of mistakes and your humility is even more incredible! Living proof that “bad boys”(and girls) CAN be rehabilitated! LOL!
It's nice how straight-forward that was. On GM's new electronic parking brakes, you have to retract the piston with a scan tool. After the brake job, you have to extend them again and calibrate them with the scan tool.
Bmws electric parking brake had 2 options, one unbolt the motor and turn it in to retract it. Or 2, use a scan tool / software to call it to its service position. If you turn the motor in you just need to pull the e brake switch to set it back. If that software you have to tell it service mode is finished and it enabled it again.
And that is completely ridiculous. These car companies have long-since wisened up to the idea of over engineering things to force the shadetree back to them and their $125/hr shop fee. I'll keep driving my old junk, thank you very much.
There's a hack on UA-cam where you take the motor off the rear caliper and manually retract the piston with an allen key, replace the motor, then do the brake job normally. I don't like that method and think it might fubar something up, so I purchased a scan tool this spring to do the rear brakes on my 2022 Equinox when the time comes.
mrs. o is an important part of your business. iit is hard enough to be a house wife. but to be a business woman and a mother of three that is a challenge and a half. you dont find man women like her in this world!
A wise man once told me : to define expert, you break the word down to it's component parts. X in higher math is the unknown, and a spurt is a drip under pressure. ( nothing personal, E.O.) It always worked for me. But what do I know? I'm no expert. Another great video. You are my muse.
Same thing happened to my Father's 2014 Ford Transit Connect minivan back in June. I did a full pad and rotor swap on all 4 corners back in January of this year. His right front caliper is sticking so badly that we originally thought it was transmission damage - there wasn't any pulling to the right but there was a huge, massive vibration that would only occur after the vehicle had been driven for about 10-15 minutes, and the vibration was so bad that the steering wheel would be flip flopping back and forth. Then I noticed the massive heat difference coming from that passenger side front wheel! Vehicle had about 125,000 miles on it at the time with the original calipers. I also did a full brake fluid flush on it last September without any issues.
Another great video!! I can’t help but always think to my self, how many mechanics that may also work on these vehicles after you, have benefited from the fact that you apply the fluid film to the parts to keep them from freezing up after time!!! You are not only an ethical mechanic, but a thoughtful one at that!!
Please let Mrs. O the people love to see and hear her. Thanks for the work you two put in. Seems like I need to pay Mrs. O's mom a visit to hear those lovely stories
Mr. O working on a rare treat - a rust-free car. Good thing this one is a 2020 - if it was a 2017, I wonder if things would have started to get crusty.
Great job as always! When we do that type of job we always warn the owner that the wheel bearing may fail soon after depending on how hot they got it and for how long…it can cook the grease right out of them if it was hot enough.
This was very informative- the emergency brake relearn was interesting- I had this on an Accord because the bumper pad that gives adequate spacing to allow return of fluid to the reservoir had disappeared/ when the brakes got hot the fluid could not expand so it the pressure never gets released
You are very modest in your comment about not having special knowledge, you are very dedicated, just the idea of working in the rust zone and do what you do is challenging enough, while some mechanics with clean parts they do not accomplish what you do, and for that my congratulations, I am just stating facts, the only complaint that I have I just cannot find a good mechanic I can trust my car to and in some occasions I have to redo it myself
For brake lines like this I have a set of short hoses with bolts in them. We also used to keep old pieces of hose and a selection of golf tees to plug vacuum lines.
Over the years I have collected an assortment of sizes of vacuum fitting caps. I can always find one of the right size to cap the end of a brake line. We all have "that drawer" filled with miscellaneous plugs, clips, fasteners, hardware, etc., right?
Years ago I owned a 1974 Camaro z28 and at the end of driving fast from having a cop chase us looking at the brakes. The rotors had turned blue all four of them. The guy driving my car was a mechanic and he replaced everything on each wheel. Sometime later I sold that car and bought a new truck. Then I got a recall for the Camaro about a defect in the brake system and now here in the future don't remember what was said on the paperwork. I had bought the car used and it had 10,000 miles on it. Why the brakes turned blue is weird because we only had the car up to 125 miles per hour and my buddy was actually standing on the brake pedal as i remember before we spun around and into a ditch and soon after the police car landed on top and rolled on it's side. Neither one of us were hurt, amazing! Not much damage to my car.
Your banter with Mrs. O. reminded me of a Benny Hill sketch. Benny Hill leans over and says "Good night mother of six", to which the lady next to him in bed says, "Good night father of one."!
Hey Eric, It wouldn't be a bad idea to make sure there is no run out in the wheel hub/bearing. Its sometimes possible when overheating the rotor, it can warp the hub/bearing face and could cause premature rotor warping. Just worth a mention. I'm sure you checked off camera 😉. Love watching your videos.
Don't I know it. I took my old Xterra down past the pad material in the front (at the leading edge) and it scored the rotor. I was like F it, oh well. Now I need pads and rotors. That disc became so purple and blue it warped the tiny hub. Oh well again. A fresh hub and bearing and all is well again. Plus that stupid steering bushing - bad design and the hundreds of miles of runout wasted it beyond tolerance for play.
Great video Mr Eric thanks for the education, I use as many videos of yours as I can find, for refresher courses or if hadn't did that type of work before,
Was in your neck of the woods last week, took my family to Niagara Falls on the 9th of August. Got myself a speeding ticket in Lindley, the officer was nice, didn’t let me slide!

Your banter with Mrs. O. reminded me of a Benny Hill sketch. Benny Hill leans over and says "Good night mother of six", to which the lady next to him in bed says, "Good night father of one."!
Mrs O should be a model.
Watching this is a proper way to start a week
always a great video when MRS O MAKES A GUEST APPEARANCE
Another great job Eric. You have the patience and attitude of a real down to earth man. You are marvelous 👍
It’s nice to know I’m the same age as you guys…no wonder I enjoy your quirkinesses!
Thanks for coming in today Fella 👌🤙
Great video Mr Eric thanks for the education, I use as many videos of yours as I can find, for refresher courses or if hadn't did that type of work before,
Was in your neck of the woods last week, took my family to Niagara Falls on the 9th of August. Got myself a speeding ticket in Lindley, the officer was nice, didn’t let me slide!
Another great job from SMA! I got my new borescope today and i love it. Thank you for the discount.
Always good to hear from Mrs O
Vanessa's is the best wife in the world! We all should be so lucky!
