Late 80s, I was in the Air Force in San Antonio, TX. Had my beautiful jade green 1978 F150. Helped a friend move to Houston. Was driving back to SA. Heard a boom. Revs going up, speed going down. Pulled over, put it in park, truck started to roll. 3rd member rings hand grenaded. Must mention the auto hobby shops on base and junk yards in TX are spectacular. Plus my friend Dwight who volunteered to ride in the truck while we towed in back with my 72 LTD. That car I restored so beautifully that it was stolen when we returned to PA on the Carnegie Mellon University campus where my ex wife worked and was a student. There is my comment where I actually did it.
He's running a business, not doing DIY projects. Interesting thought but I doubt he wants to waste time ripping it apart. Imagine a set of cogs and bushings with free-play and a possible missing teeth. That's what a failed diff looks like.
Hey I enjoy watching your videos, I try and find techs that show as much of the process as possible instead of editing it out, to me it's the best part, and it helps that you have a personality, it's very entertaining, thanks for the videos.
What we do at work, is cut two of the studs out and release the three bolts from the backing plate. You stick a long 10 mm bolt through the stud hole and put a nut on the inside of the flange. You then take it piece of thick metal and put it against the steering knuckle as you tighten the bolt you will pull the bearing hub away from the steering knuckle. you might have to change two studs after you are done, but it is a lot quicker and less painless.
Well of course the .401 air hammer couldn't do it, it's not even a red or green model, that's where the power comes from. Just wait for the mood ring model!
So whens Astro going to let Mr'O open that secret black double locked box? And or just turn your heads and wait for the next open box WUW reveal from Astro lol.
Hi Eric. I love your channel. I've learned more than a few things. I know you've got some OCD and really like to clean things. I think it's great that you take the time to do it. Some guys don't. But you've really got to start protecting your lungs when "liberating" all that rust. Do Mrs. O the favour of keeping yourself healthy. All the best.
Yeah, thought my moms cars diff was taking a dump, jacked up the back wheel's and the neighbor's cat screamed out of there, she somehow got stuck between the driveshaft and the floor pan. The cat was ok just a butch hair cut on it's back.
I hate torches. Needed a discontinued piece for a Mercedes. Found it easy enough. They did not tell me they had to torch it out. Ended up I had to drop the whole rear sub frame to change the part. Good part is while I was loving the sub frame and the part supplier a friend brought me a new set of coil springs he had bought and never used. That car ran so smooth after that it was sick. Great videos.
Always get "Recyclers" to send you photos that way you can address problems before they ship it. Got a gas tank sent from the East Coast and had to pay $100 for shipping and when I received it there was a nice big dent in the top of it. They said the shipping company did it but the packaging was fine. Luckily it didn't leak when I tested it before installing. Lesson learned.
You do the nitty gritty work here on earth, no shame in that. I know you're trying to be funny cracking on yourself but you're one hell of an effective mechanic
One of these times Eric and in the future it would be nice to show us and say " look folks NO leftover parts or nuts and bolts ". Haha. Thanks for showing us backyard folfs on doing this Eric's way. The right way.

Eric already said the gear oil that drained from it was full of metal. 'Nuff said.
Man you make obvious that them speed sensors done you dirty in the past! Every mechanic has their pet peeve! Thank you very much for the video.
33:21 WHAT?! Omg my soul is crushed Eric O. 😶😢😷🤒🤕☠️ no brake clean sound ...but I still love you bro 👌👍👍🔥
Would have been cool to rip apart the bad diff and see what failed. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks.
I'll never do this type of work, but I like watching a master. I even let all the ads play out, I'm hoping for your benefit. Thanks...
The new South Main Unit measurement system: 1 Ugga Dugga
How much is that in metric? Asking for a fellow Canadian friend 😆
I find your videos very therapeutic. Always a pleasure.
I miss the music that used to play for Big Nasty.
How can it be boring watching somebody else work Lol great job as usual
Love to see a teardown of the old diff
I was hoping for that!
Good grief in less than a day this has become my favorite spot on yewtoob. You are awesome. As is Josh and Mrs. Awesome.
Well of course the .401 air hammer couldn't do it, it's not even a red or green model, that's where the power comes from. Just wait for the mood ring model!
I love it. The mood ring model: the more pissed you get, the hard she hits! Now available at Adam and Eve.
Would be cool if you guys made a .498 shank shake and break adapter in 3/8 and 1/2. Would make my life in the Northeast much easier.
So whens Astro going to let Mr'O open that secret black double locked box? And or just turn your heads and wait for the next open box WUW reveal from Astro lol.
@@TreyCook21 Frame this post and hang it proudly with the SMA Wall Of License Plates. Trey wins.
@@djosbun Well thank you. I thought it was humorous even with the spelling mistake! It's hard to type when immaturity is giggling.
I've had valve cover leaks on two stroke engines too and no one stocks the gaskets.
Can you use Form A Gasket or other gasket in a tube?
Well yknow what that means....
Stop putting oil in it 😀
@@JosephDredd31 and you @Gabriel Samson win the atta boy prize of the day! take tomorrow off, without pay of course BUT YOU WON!
@@markh.6687 of course you can and SteelStick makes a permanent bond.
I watched the whole video , liked it very much, and nothing wrong with being a mechanic you did real good, and by the way I’m in Canada, from Toronto
Entertaining as always Mr. O thank you.
I didn't order that! ...kale chips...plantain muffins ...arugala salad... Mrs O trying not to bust a gut. Love it.
Enjoy the rants and the visits by Mrs O.......keep up the good work Mr O
How the same company that made the bullet proof 9" has so many problems with rear diffs is amazing.
Different generation of people engineering cars now.
❤️ the nuts and bolts video repairs. With your running commentary, MUCH better than anything on 📺
You are right about McDonald's. When I need to go I just order the Quarter Pounder with Cheese Deluxe meal drink and large fries. 🤣🤣
I get the regular cheeseburger then I am ok.
One of these times Eric and in the future it would be nice to show us and say " look folks NO leftover parts or nuts and bolts ". Haha. Thanks for showing us backyard folfs on doing this Eric's way. The right way.
I’d love to hear thoughts on what caused the old diff to fail. I own a 2019 Fusion Sport with the big 2.7 twin turbo and AWD.
I'd say a lack of regular service. No one was checking the diff fluid level or condition of the fluid which would've caused particulates to accumulate and grind on bearing & gears
Air hammer - "give it back to the child you borrowed it from". LMAO!!!! You had me laughing the entire video. Great work brother! You are a testament to all of us who turn wrenches for a living!
would love to see the carnage inside that broke diff. I love carnage.
I admit that I’ll probably not ever attempt this, but his techniques and tools can be applied to other maintenance and repairs to any vehicles. I’ve learned how to further use tools that I’ve had for years. Therefore, I watch and learn.
That school rant is me at least once a week!
Not even 5 minutes in and I’ve picked up two great tips

One day Eric will release the all time best You Tube caller video. From now on just let people know they are being recorded. Bet it gets a million views.
