The Mercedes C-Class is one of the world’s most historied models, having been locked in a battle with the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series for decades. It’s fighting to be declared the ultimate executive saloon for company-car drivers who need to cover lots of miles affordably, and look sharp meeting clients. Petrol and diesel engines still make up the bulk of the lineup, but now plug-in hybrid technology has come to the fore. And with a much larger 25.4kWh battery, the latest C 300 e can drive for 68 miles in EV mode. Does that give the C-Class the edge? Rich finds out.

This plug-in is actually what we really need. You need the electricity for the urban environment, where it is most effective. Other than that is just a waste of battery, weight, space and time for charging. 25kwh battery will be enough for everyday commute for 99% of the people. Also will be enough even when the battery degradation happens after ... 10 years. Also 125bhp for the electric motor is enough for everyday commute too. 10 years ago 125bhp was enough for everything. This is the perfect combo. On a longer trip you just fill the tank and never worry. And if there is a NO ICE zone you are covered. BRAVO Mercedes for that decision.
Did you say this doesn't have as much room in the back as the 3 series? I spent several months shopping for the 3 series, but ultimately ended up buying this, the gas version. This is definitely roomier than the 3 series.
Looks luxurious but I think I prefer the face lifted 3 series interior. Mercedes started the flush one-screen design and now everyone else is trying it they’ve understandably tried something different. The infotainment is far too low now, following the sat nav would be like looking at your gear stick too much when you first start driving lessons.
how is the metal trim around the window controls on a hot sunny day ? Is it metal ? Nothing like getting scorched by vehicle trim.
Hate the interior since it is all digital. The steering wheel looks lovely though.
Also the front of the car and the small boot are huge downsides for me.
Cheers
Much prefer the looks of the previous gen!
Just get a 3 series with the adaptive damper option and swap the run flat tyres.
Swap the tyres on a brand new car? Are you mad?
@@JamesSmith-qs4hx If you don’t like the harsh ride of run flats then yeah. Then put them back on when you trade the car in. Not rocket science is it..
Mercedes digital dash just doesn’t look as good as analogue dials, the lack of physical buttons and switches in favour of a touch screen is just an annoying fingerprint magnet and black head-linings make cars as inviting as an unlit dungeon or maybe just a cynical move to get more car buyers to up-spec to pano sunroofs. Mercedes are doing a good job of alienating their traditional customer base (much like BMW with their ludicrously large grilles) - but I’m probably wrong and just showing my age…
No, Mercedes design language is extremely dull and every single model looks the same
Their interiors look like cheap strip clubs
Great review as always. I will never buy a car with touchscreen only controls, frankly dangerous so never mind the pathetic boot size.
The front looks horrible
You didn't talk about other engines if there any good.
I personally think it may be a nice car but it’s so Dull from the outside
The boot is a joke, 315l 😳 I have a BMW 330e. I won’t be considering this car.
touch screen only controls are a complete fail - almost as terrible as the compromise made on the size of the boot. this is a massively compromised car.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. I particularly like the Interior Design
Yep with that outdated mercedes front grill and nose.
I would recommend the BMW 4 series gran coupé with a aftermarket front lip and spoiler on the back.
This or the Audi?
3 series
Always has and will be the best in ghis segment
No debate
Nice car.
Bad brakes is a deal breaker.
The look is just bland. A bad copy of a bigger car.
This video is boring without Nicola.
And where's the other guy? .. this guy has zero buzz
BOLLOCKS TO
ELECTRIC CARS
Lost confidence in the reviewer when he says the C class is “one wrung off the very bottom of the Mercedes’ ladder” A class, B class…… someone struggles with their ABC’s
A and B-Class share a platform, along with GLA and CLA. These are considered Merc's small cars - the C-Class is one rung above!
Disagree. The C Class is a cheap MB.
