    What kind of release agent have you been using? I am afraid the Mold Release might soften the acrylic sealer making the rubber bond to the model...any suggestions? Thank you

    • @fauxrock
      @fauxrock  4 місяці тому +1

      I use universal mold release… i’ve never had a problem with the release agent emulsifying the acrylic sealer, which you say, would create a bond between the acrylic sealer, and the rubber.

    hello, what fibre glass resin is being used hear? I want to ensure I'm buying the correct fiberglass product to produce this. also I'm guessing it doesn't matter what acrylic sealer & mold release you use? But if you can recommend what products you use ill look into getting the same ones.
    Many thanks in advance.

      Usually you find this fiberglass Mud mixture at auto supply stores in 1 gallon cans. It’s called long, strand fiber mixture.

      It funny that you've asked a question about rocking a motor home as it is something that I've wanted to do for years. The answer is yes... it can be accomplished using lightweight cement composite castings.

    Great work! How long does it take d
    For the rubber, and the fiberglass mold to dry respectively? Also, the fiberglass you are pouring, is just the liquid without any glass fiber sheet?

    • @fauxrock

      Both dry within hours. The fiberglass mixture had long strand fiber already in the mix, so no need for the mesh

    Hy!
    What makes rubber so liquid?
    it's very sticky for me and I can't apply it that easily.
    I need some kind of dilution mixture?
    I didn't use Superseal, maybe that's why I can't apply it in such a thin, liquid layer?
    Thank you very much in advance for the answers!

      I tried to brush on 40.
      But I'm not giving up, I'm trying.
      I have one last question. You use about 1 gallon of brush on for the mold in this video.
      Approx. 1 gal=2 meter x 1.5 meter mold?
      You can know a ratio, how many molds come out of 1 gallon?
      Thank you for your help!

    • @fauxrock
      @fauxrock  Рік тому +2

      I don’t remember how much rubber I used to make the mold, as it was back in 2008.
      I know the molds I made today… 1 gal of rubber coved 8 sqft of rock.
      Going back to your your rubber not working for you… You need to brush on your rubber layer at only 1/4 inch or 6mm thickness. That will work be best for you.

      I’m sure all the sealer and mound realest just evaporated I especially respectThe way he just rinse is the entire thing off in the water . you could’ve just made those rocks out of Styrofoam covered in cement inside of your garage and carved the Took molds of the styrofoam rock and you would’ve had just as real of a mold as anything that came from the wild it with less effort and more creativity.

      Yes getting approval is next to impossible because of the release agents and the rubbers toxicities to environment. Fortunately for me the most of the molds I took were years ago when this wasn’t such a big deal. I have over 75 different rock molds that I took from out in nature without any big deal. In fact the video I shot this panel on was in 2009 and I did have approval to do it but I still had the Financial risk of being fined for environmental contamination even though I had obtained legitimate permits

      This is a late reply but you can try to go to one of the rockyards in town where they sell landscape boulder. Talk to the owner or offer to pay a small fee to go over there during a weekend when they are closed and make a mold from one of their many boulders.

    • @fauxrock
      @fauxrock  Рік тому

      Keep in mind that in order to make a mold off a rock, you have to seal it and then release it with the oil to be able to extract the mold. In the landscaping yard route the rock with no longer be something the landscaping supply place could sell because it was not a natural look anymore so I don’t think that routes going to pan out other than if you bought the rock and took it home.
