- Making a backdrop with expanding gap filler. A light weight foam with plenty of uses! It could be a 'Bat Cave" or a dramatic back ground for photography, it's all up to your imagination!

I am absolutely doing this to the back of my Dungeon Master's Screen. Normally I use XPS and a heat gun, then smooth over any seams with plaster of paris to get simulated rock texture but this looks like a lot more fun!
I love getting recommended new Maker channels and getting to learn all their tricks and techniques.

This is a great tutorial, best wall I've seen so far.... and has an added bonus ! I get to use my hunting knife, and when my wife comes out to ask what the hell I think I'm doing I can say I have to use it and show her this video!

I found using that foam to glue styrofoam to the wall and then carving that to be the better method.
Sir do that foam work on walls(like with no cardboard background)?
I've had some parts that were more yellow and less white and very "airy" like rice crispy cereal. It wasn't as compact and thick "foam" like in other spots... did it not cure enough? Or do you have to keep shaking the can as you go?
Yeah, it's a pretty inconsistent product as far as texture goes. It's original purpose is for void fill so it's going to have lots of different densities throughout. It certainly wouldn't hurt to frequently shake as you use it but the end result may not vary that much.

Just a flat grey primer lightly sprayed over a white undercoat.
I like to use it to fill in Bern strogoam held to together with zsvrewer Sticks

So keep the cardboard backing on. Is that going to mess the wall up over time ?this looks awesome
It all depends on what your usage will be. For a simple free standing backdrop absolutely but if you want to actually attach it to a wall on a larger scale you might want to do it on something like plywood and screw it to your wall. This can then be more easily removed if need be.
Does the foam stick to the cardboard once it dries? Or did you pull the cardboard backing off? Very cool.
Yeah, it's a very sticky product and also keeping the cardboard backing helps with the strength and rigidity overall.

Thanks, I just used a flat grey primer to get that 'granite' look. Lightly sprayed for lighter tones or more intensive coating to get a deeper finish.

Yeah it will stick but it may sag to some degree due to being applied to a vertical surface. I would do a small test first to make sure.

Oh Gee that's a hard one... for that kind of coverage all I can say is that it'd be quite a few. I guess the best way would be to use one can and measure the area then divide it into the required area to give you the number of cans needed.

I used water based acrylic paint, I would expect that any brand would be fine.
