    Ok I totally 100% get what you’re saying about the two rocks in nature. If they split apart they’d both be positive cuz they’d both just look like rocks. If the positive and negative changed things a little or you lost detail, you wouldn’t know because it’s a rock, it’s not supposed to really look like anything specific. It’s not a face or a pattern. Then that would be a problem. I don’t know how I found your page. Maybe because I cast cement in molds and UA-cam suggested it. Fascinating stuff. Love seeing people who are so professional and live what they do.

    I'm watching videos on making rock molds for my first wargame board and the algorithm runs me into this gem. Thank you sir this is really exciting to see the craft involved with making a mold that is so large. Really cool stuff :D I poured my first plaster mold tonight so it's like a novice looking at a master

    Good stuff here, thank you so much! I have experience making molds for model train scenery using plaster. I guess it's sort of the same concept? I really have to try this. I am also a big time lover of ponds and waterfalls. Who knows, maybe someday¿¿¿ God bless you for your talent and generosity. 👏

    Your male and female molds could have some very interesting seismic characteristics.
    Would it dampen or magnify an earthquake?
    A footing or stemwall with your mold of a mold with a flexible type of morter joint could give very interesting results.
    The high rise buildings have a weight near the top to dampen wind gusts and earthquakes.

    • @fauxrock
      @fauxrock  4 роки тому

    From 1 parent to another, kids ALWAYS think they know more then their parents. Little shit's. Heavy sigh. My dad used to have a old cartoon in his shop that said "Hire teenagers while they still know everything!" LOL!
    I love how cement is made into all these rocks and wonderful things. One of these days I'm going to try it...

    Just wondering Jim I'm understanding the process but how do you get the shape of the hard mold from a flat table? I understand that you took the mold from nature but how do you create the curvature for the hard mold or am I missing something?

    • @fauxrock
      @fauxrock  Рік тому

      And getting formation from the rubber portion of the mold, you can use the hard mold. It was originally made, or in my case. When I laid them flat on the table, I got an image based on the flatness of the table. I can also stick all kinds things underneath the rubber to give it undulation and shape. It’s really unlimited the shape that you can get out of that one rubber.

    What did you paint on to make the hard mold

    • @fauxrock
      @fauxrock  3 роки тому

      We use a urethane rubber to make the soft part of the mold and a fiber reinforced cement composite to make the hard portion of the mold.

    It's nice "art", not that I would ever buy one. Is there a shortage of real rocks in America ? or maybe the appreciation of it ? strange that it is so good buisness, where I come from people wants the real thing.

      It’s easier to decorate and move around the yard without blowing a nut out. Just one upside 🤷🏻‍♂️
