Oh please, even Stevie Wonder could see he had NO intention of serving. If you watched that match or saw the clips online, you know he had ZERO intention of serving, it was clear as day! 🤣😩 He should get a hefty fine for going after the Umpire the way he did. That was EXTREMELY disrespectful and he borderline attacked that man. Ok, maybe that was a bit much on my part, but it should be made that NO player, goes after an Umpire in that manner. If you have a problem, stop the play and call the tournament director, or the supervisor, but that type of behavior should NOT be in ANY professional sports, ever.

Tiafoe: This kind of behaviour is disgusting. He has a huge attitude problem and needs to grow up fast. I would ban him for at least 6 months and penalize his ranking. He should also get help for his anger issues. He's not going to change his behaviour if he only receives a fine. As a coach I would drop him like a hot potato. Post match apologies aren't worth anything unless he personally apologises to the umpire. There's no place for this in sports.
@@cherylwilson5673 I don’t think that he has to be suspended even though his super filthy-aggressive language repeatedly directed as a personal verbal abuse at the umpire is unprecedented. But a big fat fine for the big faulty mouth of the big foe is necessary. And I have a problem with his apology as well. I think he is sincere in his regret. But ambiguity is not compatible with real apology. Why - already not in the heat of the moment - he is using an English idiom (“get the best of me”) which maybe the majority of the non-native speakers (he is an internationally famous top player playing in a foreign country) can understand exactly the opposite? And who is ending an apology with waiving a clinched fist (three in this case, so nobody can miss it)?
Zverev is a big baby and whiner!!! Wow! I am glad Tiafoe apologized. I feel Frances should get whatever he gets. Because if he doesn’t it sets a precedent for others to go off if they are too lenient. Already Alexander is throwing Frances name around in his tirade 😡☹️ Frances using the “F” word over and over was a big no no which made his tirade so much more offensive. Using the “F” and MF” words take it to a whole other level in my opinion. I don’t care how upset you are that behavior is unacceptable and should be punished accordingly. If it is not others will think they can do it also. I hope they fine Zverev also!! But even if they don’t he wasn’t as bad as Tiafoe..I think Tiafoe was mad at himself and took it out on the umpire.
Zverev "I got the ball completely clean" He says it with such conviction, when the opposite was true. I don't know man, when I run for balls and miss it, you can always tell if there was a double bounce. This is telling for me about his character, that he can lie with such conviction. It was a CLEAR double bounce!
would you please explain to me why it was a double bounce? I just would like to understand as when the player is at the base line, the ball usually also bounces before being hit by the player. Thank you! :)
Christian, you are absolutely on point with your comments on Tiafoe and Zverev. It seems to be open season for players to abuse umpires. First Tiafoe, then Zverev. I like Tiafoe, but his verbal abuse of the umpire was completely unacceptable, and he should expect a heavy fine at the very least. No doubt he's mortified watching his behaviour on playback. Zverev is a drama queen who jumped on the bandwagon of the Tiafoe incident to blame the umpire for his own shortcomings. He needs to look in the mirror to see why he hasn't won a slam yet.
Even Felix who is so conciliatory, respectful is annoyed for these arrogant excessive umpires...in this age of excessive tournament scheduling. Nowadays Federer would smash rackets, throw the leftovers to the umpire's face. Imagine MacEnroe
Sometimes refs need to be cussed out its part of the job no one got hurt except Tiafoes wallet. Tennis rules are lame af anyways the umpires job should be to MANAGE the game not influence. GO BIG FOE.
I totally agree. It seems that the umpires get away with far too many bad or just simply misplaced calls. They don’t need to be that strict at such critical times in the match. Just use common sense and discretion. It’s been a long season and the players are on edge. Also just listening and acting very respectful to the players concerns during a match ( if they don’t go too far) could prevent many unnecessary outbursts like this.
@@JonathanGarza16 For being ridiculous and overzealous. Stop crowing about 'rules'. Watch what actually happened. There's always that 'one' umpire that goes overboard on trivial things. They are ruining the game.
I think the umpires can be a bit more lenient at times. However Francis was way out of line. He went too far being disrespectful which is unacceptable. He needs to appreciate how much we the fans admire players. Not to mention young ones looking up to him. He should be ashamed of his behaviour. I honestly hope he learns from this and not repeat this.
It was the correct call. He attempted to loophole the serve clock rule by throwing the ball in the air while having no intention of attempting to hit it. It was extremely obvious
I disagree, I think losing a point from 1sec over time robs everyone of a competitive game. It has nothing to do with tennis if he gets to take one more breath before serving. This reverence for umpire authority is partly why people don’t watch tennis.
@@BoxOfOranges84 I saw it. And it had not been the first time according to the umpire. Then we can get rid off the shot clock immediately if players are just tossing the ball to watch the beautiful sky and of course steal some time. He had no intention to serve, 0%. Some outlets/commentators already writing "Tiafoe got that point robbed". Sure. It was only first serve deducted. And the point played from 2nd serve on was maybe exchange of the match, he had so many chances in that point to get the 6:5 lead in the tiebreak.
I was through with Tiafoe when he said he was losing to clowns. I expect nothing more for him than his behavior on court today. As for Zverev no comment! Speechless!

You have to take into account weather players are playing in. China is pretty humid this time of year, so sometimes players need an extra few seconds between points. Umpires should take this into account.
Whether the individual players are right or wrong, all these outbursts (Tiafoe and Zverev are only 2 of the many players in the tournament so far who have had it out with the umpires) are proof that the players are being exploited and pushed too far by the ATP. And let’s also keep in mind that the umpires are being pushed as hard as the players so they may be making some poor calls from exhaustion. I was extremely disappointed that Alcaraz backtracked on the statement to that fact he made at Laver Cup press conference. Since he’s so popular he might be one of the only the only players who can have an influence on this matter. It’s just not a sustainable situation.
I feel that the manner in which Tiafoe made his outburst--all the profanity--was unacceptable especially as a professional. But really, how do you go from what he did to bringing focus on women into the conversation? If there is no known incident or evidence, then say nothing. Shame!

Now we’re going to need VAR at tennis matches🙄. Question: why do tv broadcasters reply bad behavior from tennis players? They even replay it in slo-mo. What message is being sent to young people who are watching this.🤦🏽♀️
Enforce the serve clock evenly for everybody, that's all. Umpires shouldn't have discretion when calling the violation. Make it longer if it's a problem; make it 28 seconds. Let AI call it. The ball has to be out of your hand before the clock goes off, like basketball.
Imagine we allow leniency in nba shot clock… just like travelling should be enforced more in NBA, slow serving and foot fault should be more enforced… i remember playing junior, some kids are just buying their time god knows doing what… shot clock is a shot clock
Zverev is desperate. With this attitude it's just not possible to win a slam. And Tiafoe dissapointed me. I thought he is a good guy. With this behaviour players should be suspended for couple of weeks.
Yeah even though there was some delay. Why call if he’s serving at zero it’s uncalled for. And not only that just repeated calls. That’ll throw anyone off their game. I don’t condone the outburst but that was a lot of calls thrown at one player. One might have been ok. But sheeesh.
I'm telling you, Zverev has some deeply personal things he needs to address and be honest with himself about because it's coming out on the court (no pun intended). He damn-near revealed it in his ATP Final speech where he beat Novak, and mentioned he and Novak had been having deeply personal conversations (where Novak was giving him advice) which he almost blurted out in the winner's speech. That's all I'm gonna say.
Why should Linette apologize for being Captain Obvious? If somebody needs to apologize to the world, it's the Chinese for trying to cover it up in the beginning.

Lots of yapping. Lots of reasons for it; AND, I'm glad that Francis issued his apology! But... I'm 67 years old, still playing USTA League matches (lots of squash too!) and have seen PLENTY OF B.S. from umpires over the years. Not saying anything other than: It's a tough job, and lots of mistakes can happen calling 'balls & strikes'. PLAY ON! Nicely Done.
more lenient? I think it should be auto-called. A timer is certainly necessary and since it’s there, it shouldn’t be subjective to be fair. It’s on the player to not slack off on clock control in crunch time
Some rules are created from previous abuses. Leniancy will open the door to more abuses, creating confusion with the rules and thus defeating the purpose. There may be some leeway about when to start the clock (a 30 rally point, a rowdy crowd, a fall causing the end of the point, etc.) but once it's started that's it.

Bad behaviour should never be excused or tolerated. Tiafoe has an attitude problem and a very foul mouth and it shows in all his matches. This is not new to him
This is the first video I’ve seen from your channel. Good stuff!! It’s a bit different than the other tennis commentary I enjoy like the tennis podcast and roddick’s podcast.
Thank you for this excellent report! Followed..
Francis needs to show that aggression on the court n lets these dudes have it when he’s playing them! Also I agree with Sasha that point in the RG final was huge!!!!!! Big mistake by the empire
I think suspending Tiafoe is overkill, Zverev is delusional
Oh please, even Stevie Wonder could see he had NO intention of serving. He tossed the ball and his hand did not go up into a service motion, his knees weren't bent, his head wasn't up looking at the ball being tossed. 🤣😂😂😂 Give me a f***ing break! If you watched that match or saw the clips online, you know he had ZERO intention of serving, it was clear as day! 🤣😩
He should get a hefty fine for going after the Umpire the way he did.
Weirdly the Big Foe apologized that his behavior was “the best of him”. What could be the worst then🙃 (Is it connected with the three clinched fists at the end of the so-called apology?)
P.S. Big Foe’s behavior was disgusting, Zverev’s behavior was pathetic.
Tennis is the only sport it is so condemned. Baseball, soccer, football, hockey has far worse behavior
@@goggleboy2464 All of those are pitched bloody battles, but tennis is supposed to be a duel between gentlemen.
Cool, calm, collected - this is Christian.
Disgrace. Disgusting. No ethics or mental or professional control. Need a 1 year ban minimum
Great analysis, agree with everything you said
Zverev is a big baby and whiner!!!
Tiafoe has the first Amendment freedom of Speech 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅
Zverev "I got the ball completely clean" He says it with such conviction, when the opposite was true. I don't know man, when I run for balls and miss it, you can always tell if there was a double bounce. This is telling for me about his character, that he can lie with such conviction. It was a CLEAR double bounce!
Na... He truly believed it was clear shot.
would you please explain to me why it was a double bounce? I just would like to understand as when the player is at the base line, the ball usually also bounces before being hit by the player. Thank you! :)
@@mrskris1163it can bounce once but not twice
@@chaiveenendaal thank you, but how did it bounce twice? It bounced on the ground and then Zverev shot a volley.
@@mrskris1163pretty sure the ball had already bounced once before what you see in the replay
I hope Zverev one day wins a Slam or he is going to legitimately go insane.
he doesn't deserve one
With Sinner there, his chances grow dim.
Problem is there is no consistency with the time violation calls. Some do some don’t. We need consistency if you are going to penalize a player.
I am a first time viewer and I am really impressed honestly, this is so fluent and well structured, kudos to you
Agree, great coverage of what happened. I dunno man frustration got the better of TF way OTT this time. Damn.
Even Felix who is so conciliatory, respectful is annoyed for these arrogant excessive umpires...in this age of excessive tournament scheduling. Nowadays Federer would smash rackets, throw the leftovers to the umpire's face. Imagine MacEnroe
Great assessment! Fully agree with you. 🎾
Sometimes refs need to be cussed out its part of the job no one got hurt except Tiafoes wallet. Tennis rules are lame af anyways the umpires job should be to MANAGE the game not influence. GO BIG FOE.
Great commentary Christian, you tell it like it is.
Francis usually behaves very well - I personally am giving him a pass for this as just a bad day. :) On the merits I also think Francis was right!
Sorry, no excuse for this short of behaviour.
He makes a good living. He was wrong and acted like a child.
That umpire was out of line...uncalled for
Absolutely.
For enforcing the rules?
I totally agree. It seems that the umpires get away with far too many bad or just simply misplaced calls. They don’t need to be that strict at such critical times in the match. Just use common sense and discretion. It’s been a long season and the players are on edge. Also just listening and acting very respectful to the players concerns during a match ( if they don’t go too far) could prevent many unnecessary outbursts like this.
How is the umpire out of line? Not saying it's right but it's not wrong either. Just go easy on the time calls.
@@JonathanGarza16 For being ridiculous and overzealous. Stop crowing about 'rules'. Watch what actually happened. There's always that 'one' umpire that goes overboard on trivial things. They are ruining the game.
Great pragmatic analysis Christian. there's so much depth in the men's game and with it pressure.
🙏🏾🙏🏾
I think the umpires can be a bit more lenient at times. However Francis was way out of line. He went too far being disrespectful which is unacceptable. He needs to appreciate how much we the fans admire players. Not to mention young ones looking up to him. He should be ashamed of his behaviour. I honestly hope he learns from this and not repeat this.
Alex needs a hug, Tiafoe should be banned for a year or something, this is really unexusable...
He lost a first serve at a very key moment. I was shocked at the call.
@@BoxOfOranges84 It def was not the correct call..
And the point played from 2nd serve on was maybe exchange of the match,
he had so many chances in that point to get the 6:5 lead in the tiebreak.
@@larrybranchiiagreed.
I was through with Tiafoe when he said he was losing to clowns. I expect nothing more for him than his behavior on court today. As for Zverev no comment! Speechless!
😂😂
That's what happen when emotions are let loose!
Sasha reaaaalyyy lost it!
Tennis is 50% physical and 50% mental!
One side goes down, and the other suffers.
Well done, Christian! I'm glad you're waxing stronger.
You have to take into account weather players are playing in. China is pretty humid this time of year, so sometimes players need an extra few seconds between points. Umpires should take this into account.
Tiafoe was as wrong as two left shoes. On so many levels.
If this is how he treats an umpire in public, how can people question how he treats women in private?
Is that your only concern?
I feel that the manner in which Tiafoe made his outburst--all the profanity--was unacceptable especially as a professional. But really, how do you go from what he did to bringing focus on women into the conversation? If there is no known incident or evidence, then say nothing. Shame!
@@paulbenford6196yeah but i'm pretty sure zverev has a pending domestic abuse case lmao
update: he settled, so there actually IS a known incident and evidence. shame! on you for blindly supporting people without doing your research
pretty sure zverev had a domestic abuse charge pending
update: he settled out of it so he probably did it
how predictable to see the responses coming from men to my comment
I agree that umpire should he fined for making mistakes
Frances isn’t likable. His bugs bunny dig towards Ben Shelton made him look like a punk forever. And Zverev is worse.
Now we’re going to need VAR at tennis matches🙄. Question: why do tv broadcasters reply bad behavior from tennis players? They even replay it in slo-mo. What message is being sent to young people who are watching this.🤦🏽♀️
You are correct. Unacceptable behavior.
DEAD wrong. both of them. on all counts. they don't want the clock to be enforced how it's supposed to be enforced? ridiculous
really great commentary!
Enforce the serve clock evenly for everybody, that's all. Umpires shouldn't have discretion when calling the violation. Make it longer if it's a problem; make it 28 seconds. Let AI call it. The ball has to be out of your hand before the clock goes off, like basketball.
“I’ve been playing for 9 months now “? Ok 👌. Most of the world doesn’t stop working until we retire in our 60s or 70s
Disappointed with Francis, but he apologized like a man, respect.
Imagine we allow leniency in nba shot clock… just like travelling should be enforced more in NBA, slow serving and foot fault should be more enforced…
i remember playing junior, some kids are just buying their time god knows doing what… shot clock is a shot clock
Zverev is desperate. With this attitude it's just not possible to win a slam. And Tiafoe dissapointed me. I thought he is a good guy. With this behaviour players should be suspended for couple of weeks.
He cussed the umpire out y'allll, love the way you said it lol
Frustration due to poor results I think....He peaks during the US hardcourt season and kinda tanks the rest of the season.
I never ever want to hear about Novak or Shapovalov being too brash EVER Again
the Media loves Tiafoe bc he is black and American
yet he has probably had the worst outburst of anyone in the HISTRY of tennis
Never again say a word about Rublev or Djokovic every again. Russians would be banned for cursing under their breath in russian. this is shocking
Good takes. I dont think Frances deserves a suspension. A fine sure. I also think the second time violation penalty was questionable.
I’m just going to say the quiet part out loud. Does race on the umpires part play a role in this? It’s just a question. Thoughts…
Not with that ref. With some it does. Fergus is very racist and strangely, so is Carlos Bernardes!
TRULY DISGUSTING FROM TIAFOE
It wasn’t anything disgusting. Grow up.
I haven't seen all of Tiafoe's mataches, but I had never seen him come close at all to losing it like this.
Zverev should have asked to see the video playback of the point. Sorted.
more lenient? I think it should be auto-called. A timer is certainly necessary and since it’s there, it shouldn’t be subjective to be fair. It’s on the player to not slack off on clock control in crunch time
That's a nice analysis, except i don't think the umpires can or should be more lenient at the end of the season.
To be fair they fucked up Zverev against alcaraz really bad. And Lahyani started considering himself as a star. He really is insufferable
Some rules are created from previous abuses. Leniancy will open the door to more abuses, creating confusion with the rules and thus defeating the purpose. There may be some leeway about when to start the clock (a 30 rally point, a rowdy crowd, a fall causing the end of the point, etc.) but once it's started that's it.
i mean dude answer this Zverev is right he got robbed in RG final of a crucial point didnt he one point can change the course of match one point can blow your confidence away maybe he is slamless bcz of umpires mistake maybe bcz hes not good under pressure who knows
