My inspection experience has been ACI and SWPPS. These videos are great for a "in field" view. Please continue to share your knowledge and experience, it really does help.

I have trained many new building inspectors (often many transitioning from other inspection agencies) and often many find that building inspections are different and quite the learning curb. I have a 2020 NEC. You may not be there yet. I would have loved if you covered 210.52.(C).(2). (Kitchen Island requirements based on square footage) and 210.52.(C).(3). ( Receptecle outlet locations) recepteclecs below the countertop or how appliance garages and fasten in place appliances prevent hidden recepticles from counting as the "required outlets". Keep in mind that the info. in the video is based on the 2017 NEC/2019 CA Electrical Code. Although a great majority of the information didn't change, there are subtle changes such as kitchen countertop receptacle requirements, surge protection reqs, and some GFCI add-ons. how far a way from the wall is the smoke detector, in bed room and living room. and what is the height of the meter box [ one meter or forty meters heights] . your video are very informative.
Regarding the meter box height, check with your local electric utility provider; more often than not, they have specific requirements (I have seen 1.2 meters and up to 1.9 meters height required); however, code does not address the panel box height. The code does, however, regulate circuit breaker height which is 6 foot 7 inches in height max, to the center of the grip of the handle (see NEC or CEC 240.24 for more info). Regarding the smokeys, the code is silent on horizontal distances from wall. I would say double check with the local building department (for both questions, in case they have special requirements). Be aware that smoke alarms must be no less than 3 feet horizontally away from HVAC supply registers and 3 feet away from the tip of ceiling fan blades. I hope this helps.

Doing renovations on my house. While demoing my kitchen I pulled out the old recessed lights. Saw them marked as non IC rated. So the individual that installed them decided it would be brilliant to wrap them in fiberglass insulation as well as have blown insulation in contact. How it never burned down my house I will never know. Just lucky I guess
Wow; wrapped in both fiberglass and blown insulation! Yeah, very fortunate something up there didn’t ignite. The paper back from the fiberglass is the first likely to ignite (assuming it’s in direct contact with the can light) in those circumstances, and before the fiberglass or the loose-fill insulation burns. Check this cool video out, which shows a guy torch testing the snot out of different insulations, kind of gives an idea of what it takes for insulation to burn. Very cool. Hello and thank you for the question. Typically, the utility company specifies the type of meter that should be used - even for garage conversions to ADUs. The same applies if the meters are recessed or surface mounted. However, electrical panels (non meter types) could be installed inside an ADU, and on a fire separation wall, and they can be either recessed or surface-mounted. However, there are specific considerations and requirements to keep in mind: - Clearance requirements (30”wide X 36” deep). - And if recessed, the panel must have appropriate fire-stopping materials and methods (consult with the designer on this one). Also keep in mind that the local jurisdiction has the authority to make the final interpretation. I hope this helps; however, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further clarification.
