Hey all, Nat here. I was the person Corridor hit up to help create the Warframe props in the most recent Corridor Crew video. I’m a primarily a maker/designer, but consider myself a creative generalist who just kinda fell into propmaking as a creative outlet other than the normal ways I make my living, which generally center around graphic design, motion graphics, and visual effects. I actually got into it because I wanted to build some cool things for cosplay, but also because I wanted to display some of my favorite things from my favorite media in my apartment. Over time, that’s built up from a tiny 6 inch printer in my bachelor apartment in Koreatown, into a dedicated space where I have way more tools and resources than I ever thought I would. My little hobby eventually did catch the attention of Corridor, who I have done graphics for in the past, and that’s how I ended up here. Despite the crew being colleagues of mine, I still get nervous at royally messing up a project and letting down my peers. This is further complicated by the pressures of messing up very publicly as a trans person to what ostensibly could be a couple million viewers and having my personal failures intersect with my identity. Needless to say, royally messing up on this channel is not the best for my portfolio, but I’m still glad it’s all here for you to witness. Hopefully this will explain why. Here’s what went wrong, or at least my thought process behind it: Either my batch of XTC-3D was improperly measured and mixed, or it was a faulty factory batch. Generally, this is a very forgiving resin that lets you get it slightly wrong. After one coat, I noticed it was still tacky after 24 hours, almost like it cured about 90%. No big, right? Let’s just put on another, this time with a bit more hardener to see if I can get the second layer to kick for sure this time. More smoothing resin can just be sanded down, so it’s not a big deal. But the second layer didn’t cure after another 24 hours. So either I mixed two pots wrong, or it just would not kick at all because of a bad Smooth-On factory batch. Epoxy is a heat cure chemical reaction, so maybe hitting it with a heat gun will help? Nope, too hot, too spotty, too fast. It needs to be a less hot, long-bake process. It’s totally fine to bake 3d prints, as it is actually part of a process called annealing, which makes 3D prints stronger. I’ve done this multiple times, albeit on a smaller scale and in convection and gas ovens in my home. I’ve also used heat to cure resins. So, the non-dumb parts of my brain told the dumb parts that everything would be okay, totally ignoring the other facts that for an electric oven to reach temperature, that the heating element would superheat on full to reach even the lowest temperature setting, which I set the oven to. The dumb part of my brain also decided to not question where the heating elements of an electric oven are located: Hint: It’s all of the walls-- All of them. And so, my rationalizing got ahead of me and ended up creating S’moreFrame. In retrospect, I should have just cut a hole in a cardboard box and fed a hair dryer or heat gun into it and created a little hot box. Something to get the heat up without superheating it. I know the heat did actually work because when that mess of a helmet cooled down, the resin on it was definitely cured. Welp. We made a plan to get that print time of the prior weeks back faster. We went out to MatterHackers, and I personally had two printers going at half of the build, and we made back our time in one weekend instead of a week. I threw away that kit of XTC and bought a new one. From there it was what was required of me anyway: Two more weeks of coming to Corridor every night and every weekend after my normal day job to finish this piece. And in the end, I was proud that I overcame the obstacles, made back all that time, tried a few new techniques, had a group of people who believed in me despite the setbacks, and got to build something beautiful that is going to sit alongside some very legit pieces by fabricators who are way more talented than I. The Corridor dudes are cool dudes, I was glad to spend time with them, and I want to be there more often! Make mistakes! In the end, it will be a better story. Twitter/IG plz don’t actually follow me I’m only full of spicy takes: @nataliegroman

I think the answer would have been to preheat it to 175 f or so and then shut the oven off, then place the helmet in. They wouldn't have had to worry about overshooting the temp then a d could have cooked it in an even temperature environment
@@MoonLyteV2 I think it would be more respectful to the entire species to refer to "him" as "it". After all its shirt did say gender is over. Therefore it doesn't believe in pronouns so it doesn't have a pronoun
Most likely the reason the Oven "overheated" is because the oven controls the temperature by turning on and off(0% or 100%) the heating element, either by using a timer(on the scale of minutes per on/off cycle) or by using a metal strip that bends when heated to a specific temperature(That usually has a high thermal mass, so the on/off cycles are also very long). There are specialized ovens for accurate heating(e.g. for PCB assembly), but a regular oven won't do for this.
Didn't they say it was just broken? If an oven is just 0% or 100%, then there wouldn't really a need for a temperature dial, right? Which would be weird, because most recipes clearly indicate the ideal cooking temperature and cooking time.
In their other video bad cgi 1? Can't remember the exact title They actually showed the creation of the helmet or more like showed the computer screen while they were making the helmet
The piece melted because she placed the helmet right above the heating element. The piece wouldn't have fit with the racks still in (so this isn't the most helpful unless you're baking something smaller), but preheating the oven first to reach the goal temp and having the piece elevated off the bottom with a rack would have prevented it from scorching onto the oven.

The amount of people focusing on someones identity and stating that her identity doesnt matter, is very hypocrictical and sad. the video is about props, yet so many people focus on Nat being a trans woman. As you say: "lts not important" so then why are you so mad? and time stamp me when they bring it up in the video where she is trans, it would be very helpful. Grow up bigots.
It is also hypocritical to slam on people focusing on something other than props when you yourself are focusing on something other than props. Don't get me wrong, I'm not on the transphobes side in the slightest, but if you wanted to be credible in your "We should focus on the props!" main thrust of WHY they were in the wrong, you shouldn't make the same mistake they did and not focus on the props. Not focusing on the props is fine and is not the problem; and many Corridor comments descend into tangents away from what the video is about: The problem is the transphobic slant of the comments.
@@ubereatsegodeath2281 I replied to the OP, who themselves said " "this video is about props, yet so many people focus on Nat as a transwoman". I made no comment on what you said. Their point was clearly implied as "What we should be speaking about is what the video is about, not her gender", then went on to talk about something other than what the video is about.
Not only that, but unless it's a newer convention oven, old "janky" ovens tend to have their heating elements blast full power until the set temperature is reached. That's also why a lot (if not all) baking recipes start with you pre-heating the oven before hand .. if not, you just overheated whatever was inside. 😬
@@cyancyanide Actually when she was Chandler's dad on Friends, a lot of younger people who did not know what she looked like before thought it was a transsexual person playing the role. So it seems like you are just making up any excuse at this point, sadly.

The cost has come down, but they're still hobby level. They're not at the point where anyone can press print and have something work. In my experience it takes 5-10 prints with advisory help to get the hang of it, and around 20-50 prints without. Placing 3D printers in libraries has helped a lot with this, so hopefully the literacy component will improve like the accessibility component has. Safety on lower budgets also still needs some work.
It's more accessible than some things. With a decent 9 to 5 you could get a fair $350 Printer, but probably not make anything this large though unless you cut it into multiple small parts like MatterHackers did.
@@jaimel88 it depends. Motion capture technology is really expensive, so perfect recreations of actors are generally reserved for games with a very high budget, like Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk or Norman Reedus in Death Standing. Beyond that, I think it usually doesn't match up, because of how much a voice actor changes the way they sound to fit a specific character; for example, Sam and Laura's characters in Critical Role
CaseFace5 past few years? My guy they been out like 5 years at most, also 300 for a shitty one, like 700$ for a proper one that anyplace that wants quality over quantity would get
3d printers are very accessible and affordable. You can easily get a fully functional, open source 3d printer for $150 that even has a decent print size.

Let’s sit for 12 hours and then you can sand it back to a polish and because it’s a hard laquer you can go up to 3000 grit for a mirror smooth finish

The bottom of ovens get super hot. Even with a low heat setting. You needed a rack and a sheet of metal to keep it away from direct heat.
I don't think the helmet would have fit into the oven if the racks were in there, but the baking pan was definitely needed.
Also a non-jank kitchen. Every time that kitchen appears in the vlog there's another broken or dodgy thing they complain about.
I think the answer would have been to preheat it to 175 f or so and then shut the oven off, then place the helmet in. They wouldn't have had to worry about overshooting the temp then a d could have cooked it in an even temperature environment

Mac PooPum jesus christ calm down
Most likely the reason the Oven "overheated" is because the oven controls the temperature by turning on and off(0% or 100%) the heating element, either by using a timer(on the scale of minutes per on/off cycle) or by using a metal strip that bends when heated to a specific temperature(That usually has a high thermal mass, so the on/off cycles are also very long).

Can't remember the exact title
They actually showed the creation of the helmet or more like showed the computer screen while they were making the helmet
@@sa3doz yeah, Wren worked on it
The piece melted because she placed the helmet right above the heating element.

@@ubereatsegodeath2281 I wouldn't call my comment POSITIVE, but its certainly not transphobic

That bottom solid metal plate gets as hot as the flame. You need to place things on a rack
Yup, I definitely know how ovens work now! lol
Not only that, but unless it's a newer convention oven, old "janky" ovens tend to have their heating elements blast full power until the set temperature is reached.
That's also why a lot (if not all) baking recipes start with you pre-heating the oven before hand .. if not, you just overheated whatever was inside. 😬

I don't understand why people are saying 3D printers aren't accessible, expensive yes, but definitely not inaccessible.

I really want to see Rebecca from DE wearing this (she's the voice actress for Lotus)
Curious question: how often do voice actors actually physically match up to the characters they're playing?
@@jaimel88 it depends. Motion capture technology is really expensive, so perfect recreations of actors are generally reserved for games with a very high budget, like Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk or Norman Reedus in Death Standing. Beyond that, I think it usually doesn't match up, because of how much a voice actor changes the way they sound to fit a specific character; for example, Sam and Laura's characters in Critical Role

"acessible things like A 3D PRINTER" yeah guys, no
If you’re hobby is making stuff a small 3D printer isn’t a huge investment.
You can get a decent 3D printer like the one in the Corridor office for $150-200.
You can order some pieces to any company that offers 3d printing for not so much money
