I'll see people all the time that say they want an expensive super car as their dream car, all I want is a 60's early 70's fastback mustang. Very fine car you got there sir.
Ive never actually seen tri Y headers being installed. Something different :) Also, check the header bolts ever so often... they do loosen up every now and then.
Other posters are right. Either the timing is retarded or she has a miss. Pull and replace one plug wire at a time until you find the one that is not firing.
Just a bit of automotive nomenclature for you. Your engine had stock "manifolds". A manifold connects multiple outlets into one. (Why they call it a intake manifold.) A header is also a manifold, but got that name from each tube going to the head. And a axle back system, is an exhaust system that goes over the axle out the back of the car, yours was not an axle back system.
johnnydanger57 I was thinking the same exact thing. That’s why I was reading back through all the comments. Thanks for posting it. Not that it’s a big deal it’s just better if you get it right! The only thing I’ll add is to agree with another comment those aren’t Long tube headers they are tri-Y headers like Shelby used for the GT 350 mustangs!

For some reason when it's idling it sounds like a misfiring 5.4 it doesn't sound right. If I where you I would look into it because 289s don't sound like that. but when you get on it it sounds amazing.
I wish working on my 84 z28 was easy, engine bay is so cramped up I could barley fit my arm in some areas, there's a bunch of hoses and wires everywhere
hey nick, can you tell me how you blacked out your bumpers and the chrome around the windows and stuff, please. trying to get that done to one of my mustangs. thank you.
Not for nothing Nate, but that car looks like a hunk of black coal. Chrome the rear and front bumpers and get a set of cragars or 19 in chrome bullets from AM. For the love of god!
Yes and no. Tri-y headers can be a type of long tube header, technically "long tube" usually refers to long primary and/or secondary tube headers that merge into a single pipe somewhere relatively far from the exhaust ports. Imports, which commonly use flat plane 4 cylinders, often use headers with relatively short primaries that merge into longer secondaries and these are still considered "long tube" headers and not "tri -y's" even though they have more in common with "tri-y's".
@@177SCmaro Except they aren't. Tri-Y headers are Tri-Y and long tubes are long tubes. Its how the cylinders are paired that make the Tri-Y preform they way that they do. I actually wish more manufacturers would built decent quality Tri-Y headers. They are real hard to beat on a street car. In most applications the Tri-Y will put out almost as much grunt as a long tube off the bottom and they tend fit with a bit more space so they are much easier to live with. Easier to work around and they don't get beat up or scraped as bad since the second collector is smaller and usually sits a little higher off the ground than a 4to1 collector. As for the ricer crowd, they get a lot of stuff wrong. If it comes with a 500hp sticker, who wouldn't be happy?
@@samtech79 Oh, I see. You said it so it must be true, everyone else, including the entire import world, must be wrong. No reason or argument necessary. I'm convinced. 😑 Again, you're incorrect. Tri-y headers can be a type of long tube header. It depends were the final merge is. Tri-y are a type of long tube header which tends to have short primaries and long secondaries that the final merge is relatively far from the exhaust port compared to 4 into 1 long tube headers that only have primary runners and they merge far from the exhaust port. The fact that there are runners that merge relatively far from the exhaust port is what makes tri-y's long tube headers (as opposed to "shorty" headers which have runners that all merge relatively close to the exhaust ports).
How can I get an off road x pipe for my 2008 mustang gt in California? Because I’ve been trying to get one but they won’t ship it cuz of the law here in Cali
Umm, no... X pipe if mounted in the proper tuning position is the better option to create a far better scavenging effect. The means of finding the placement for your x pipe crossover is to use straight pipes back from your headers with chalk scribbled across the bottom. Run the engine and where the chalk burns off is where you want to place your X pipe. I've had Tri Y headers for decades from Mustangs Unlimited and haven't installed them on my '67 Cougar. About to do that shortly after I return home and I will remove the dual exhaust with H pipe and over axle exhaust pipes and put in an X pipe and Shelby style pre axle side dump exhaust, that will drop a bit more weight along with the headers over cast iron exhaust manifolds, and it will allow more room around the axle for upcoming suspension mods.
Tri-y headers often sound like that because of the short primaries - they sound "off" probably because you're so used to hearing standard 4 into 1 long-tube headers.
You removed exhaust manifolds, not headers. Use V bands next time and an X pipe. I’ve been watching this guy since he bought the 68 mustang. I don’t know, but I get a vibe from him that he is this car guru, but my jaw dropped to the ground when he bought this car without checking the oil. One video he shows that he had 2 quarts left. He definitely needs a new coyote engine in this car so he won’t have to do anything.

That firing order sounds off! Do a once over making sure your firing order matches the cam
ill check that out
Ya honestly sounds like u have a miss, I used a bigger cam in my 289 and used the 351 firing order car runs a lot better.
it looks off too! maybe just new motor mounts will do but it looks like the motor wants to jump out of the dang car
