The Valkyrie is the apotheosis of romantic music drama, and Richard Wagner delivers his most passionate pages. The curtain has barely opened when the orchestra sweeps everything away in its path. Storm, incest, divine wrath, irrepressible passion: everything seems to be already in the making in these agitated measures that announce the tortuous destiny of the heroes. Then, thanks to his perpetually mobile writing, in which each instrument takes part in the tragedy, Wagner begins the story proper, illuminating words and scenes with his famous "leitmotifs" (leading themes) that run under the singers, pass through their voices, transform and reappear as the plot develops. It doesn't matter what the instrument is if the musician knows how to make it sound... Furtwängler achieves a miracle with an Italian orchestra that is not used to the German repertoire. The vocal cast is also fascinating. We are going to publish the complete "Ring" recorded in public in 1953. Although the sound quality is a bit rustic, the interpretation is an indispensable document to know for the lovers of the "Ring" and remains a legacy of the one we consider as the greatest conductor of the XXth century and maybe the greatest of all times...

Sensationelles Remastering. Dafür, dass das 70 Jahre alt ist, klingt das hervorragend. Vielen Dank dafür! 🙏Das Tempo ist für meinen Geschmack manchmal etwas sehr langsam, auf der anderen Seite hat diese Aufnahme dafür unglaublich ausdrucksstarke Momente zu bieten und darin war Furtwängler natürlich ein Meister. Wahnsinn, was er aus dem Wagner-unerfahrenen Orchester rausgeholt hat! Tolles Sängeraufgebot auch, interessant hier mal Windgassen als Siegmund zu hören, da ich ihn vor allem als Siegfried kenne, wie wohl die meisten. Nicht zu vergessen Ferdinand Frantz - was für eine edle Stimme! Und natürlich die grandiose Martha Mödl - Nilsson ist technisch vielleicht besser, aber Mödl und auch Varnay hatten ein dunkleres Timbre und das macht sie für viele vielleicht sogar zu den interessanteren Brünnhilden. Ich finde sie alle drei großartig auf ihre Weise! Danke für das Hochladen noch mal! ✌
What a remastering job! 1953! Furtwangler was recording and performing right up to his death the next year it seems!
Wunderschöne und spannende live Aufführung dieses romantischen und großartigen Singspiels mit herrlichen Stimmen aller unvergleichlichen Solisten und gut harmonisierten Stimmen des ausgezeichneten Chors sowie gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen aller Instrumente. Der ebenso unvergleichliche Maestro dirigiert das perfekt trainierte Orchester im gut analysierten Tempo und mit möglichst effektiver Dynamik. Die verbesserte Tonqualität ist auch ziemlich hoch als eine live Aufnahme von fast siebzig Jahren vor. Wunderbar und atemberaubend zugleich!

Le di pulgar arriba (like) antes de escuchar la obra completa, que más puedo decir de esta magnífica, absolutamente bella y brillante interpretación de La Valquiria de Wagner, un elenco de lujo y una orquesta dirigida por el mismísimo y brillante Wilhelm Furtwängler quien conocía bien las excelentes partituras de Richard Wagner, Wolfgang Windgassen uno de los mejores "heldentenors" o tenor heroico, el tenor ideal para interpretar a Wagner y uno de los más completos, sin olvidar a la bella voz de Martha Mödl cómo Brunilda, y por supuesto ¿cómo no emocionarse cuando el 3er acto empieza o cuando se escucha a Brunilda hacer su canto de guerra? la Cabalgata de las Valquirias en su versión de concierto es una de las piezas más conocidas de toda la música académica y la más famosa de Wagner ya que se ha escuchado tanto en radio, cine (cómo en Apocalypse Now que usaron la versión de la ópera, técnicamente Wagner ya creaba partituras para obras de cualidades cinematográficas, antes de la invención de la cinematografía) y televisión hasta en videojuegos o con versiones en otros géneros hasta su escenificación y el clásico vestuario de las Valquirias ha sido referenciado en otros medios, algún día me gustaría ver una representación con caballos de verdad en el teatro. Por lo demás una remasterización que le hace justicia a esta grabación histórica y que es parte del legado de Wagner, Furtwängler así como de sus cantantes y sigan siendo escuchados cómo si estuviesen vivos, el primer melodrama de Wagner que escuché completa cuando tenía cómo 13 años y ya habiendo escuchado ya varias veces la Cabalgata de las Valquirias en su versión orquestal, hizo que me interesara en oír el resto del Anillo y averiguar sobre sus fuentes mitológicas y escuchar el resto de los melodramas de Wagner, ahora tengo 18 y conozco estos dramas al derecho y al revés, un regalo para la historia de la Música y el Arte en general y un placer de escuchar.
Totalmente de acuerdo. También cuanto a Windgassen, a cuya voz le faltaba un poco de brillo, vale, pero que podía con todo e interpretaba cada personaje como nadie, y que aquí es un Siegmund muy juvenil y lírico, un poquito menos elaborado que con Knapperstbusch en 1956. Mödl era una mezzo corta, pero con una capacidad expresiva fuera de serie, que hizo susurrar a la propia Varnay "¡Esto es arte!" mientras escuchaba a su colega en al escena de la Inmolación, cuando declama: "Ruhe... Ruhe, du Gott". Abrasó su voz als ervicio de la escena "wielandiana", pero hizo historia. El "anuncio de muerte" con estos dos titanes es escalofriante

There are two other recordings of this work conducted by Furtwängler. One was done in 1950, with the great Kirsten Flagstad as Brünnhilde. The other was made in Vienna in 1954, with Leonie Rysanek and Ludwid Suthaus as Sieglinde and Siegmund, and has the best sound of the three.
When talking about the greatest conductor of the 20th century and perhaps of all times, the vision must go beyond the aesthetic aspect and focus on the fact that Furtwängler never conducts in a similar way twice. The more you like the conductor and the work he conducts, the more you will want to listen to and even own all three versions.

@@karldelavigne8134 Gustav Mahler is my fav composer but I cannot comment on his conducting. Nikisch has some recordings in poor quality so I can’t really judge from that. But I’ve listened to quite many Furtwangler and Toscanini and I generally like Furtwangler more.

Si es audio mejor que la versión de Kirsten Flagstadt pero también la orquesta logra mas expresión, la otra es orquesta de la Escala o la RAI? Me gusta mas con Karl Bohm y el Bayreuth test. Y luego la de George Solti . W. Furtwangler dirige muy parecido a Bohm 😍
¿Tú crees? Para mí la concepción del drama de Furtwängler y la de Böhm, más simple y llana, que algunos llamaron "Wagner pasado por Mozart", no se parecen en nada.

W.Furtwngler es parecido a W Furtangler; es único. Incomparable. Irrepetible. Es Furtwangler.
A mí también me gustan sobre todo Böhm y Furtwängler para Wagner, en términos generales, aunque a veces otros insignes directores wagnerianos (para mí Krauss, Knappertsbusch, Keilberth, Solti, Kubelik, Sawallisch, Konwitschny, Kempe y seguro que me dejo alguno más) rayan a la misma altura.

Registrazione celebre, storia nobilissima. Purtroppo c'e' la pubblicita' e quando interrompe continuamente un'opera d'arte, come in questo upload, e' sempre un crimine. Non si puo' predisporla con tempi cosi' ristretti tra un break e l'altro. Capisco che le inserzioni diano soldi e facciano sopravvivere questi meritori siti ma occorre essere piu' rispettosi dell'arte e di chi la fruisce anche su youtube. Abbiate il coraggio di rinunciare a qualche introito per amore della bellezza. Questo vale per tutti gli "internauti" che con gli upload divulgano la cultura. Fueron a disfrutar de un evento histórico, súmale la orquesta la cual normalmente no interpretaban las óperas de Wagner, me recuerda a cuando los ingleses de los tiempos de Händel cuando este hacía sus óperas con libretos en italiano, a los ingleses les gustaba ir a eso ya que disfrutaban de lo bello que era el idioma aunque no entendiesen nada, si yo hubiese vivido en esos tiempos hubiese pagado por a ver dirigir a Wilhelm Furtwängler cuando este vino a mis país Venezuela a inicios de los 50s, quedan algunas grabaciones, encontré una de Don Juan de Richard Strauss que no tiene muy buena calidad de sonido y otra de la obertura de Tannhäuser de Wagner que si se escucha bien, creo que también interpretaron los Concertos Grossos de Händel.
Parece más bien que usted podrá apenas con el jazz o con la musiquita de west side history. Qué comentario tan estúpido. Ahora que usted no sepa siquiera quien es Wagner, eso no obedece sino a su incapacidad de entender nada de nada. Siga con el vallenato es mi sugerencia.
@@radhagovinda108 Bueno tampoco me parece necesario tener que insultar al jazz o a la obra del Maestro Leonard Bernstein, una es un género distinto y la otra es una muy buena obra y por ende son música pero no viene al caso en un video de una grabación histórica de un melodrama de Wagner completo.
