No season 2. They based this off the book, of which there is only one, and they’ve confirmed no plans for creating anymore
The old blackthorne is just a dream , truth is that he never leaves japan
A concussion dream it happens, but it never will...happen.
Its rare but virtual reality future does happen while conced.
Mrballen has stories about it.
I like that Anjin literally calls Fuji "Best Girl" LOL
Also when Toranaga quotes Yabu's own words back to him from episode 1, that both tells Yabu how long this game was being played and answers all of Yabu's questions "Why tell a dead man the future".
"Burial at sea" or "Viking funeral".
It was a dream. The key is Mariko's cross. He dreamed he had it in the future but we saw he actually dumped it into the sea.
The ending is just as you said, a battle didn't fit the tone of the series. Toranaga was trying to avoid battle and won without drawing a sword.
There is season finale, just series finale. It's a limited series
Fuji's smile will be sincerely missed.
Season 2 is unlikely since this series already told everything in James Clavell's book,
if they wanna continue it I think the only way is to follow all of Tokugawa Ieyasu stories leading to the battle of Sekigahara and they need a massive historical researcher and scriptwriter combined to adopt it on Season 2
The bird was a hunting bird, not his messenger bird. He was releasing it back to the wild.
Shogun is done. It's only one book. What they could do is the next book, Gai Jin, set in Hong Kong (I hope I'm remembering correctly). The 1st three books in the timeline are amazing 👏
The Hong Kong book was Tai-Pan. Gai-Jin's the other Japan book, set around the Meiji era iirc.
But yeah, afaik most (if not all) of Clavell's books were excellent.
@alcor4670 Thank you for the correction 🙏 I thought I might have gotten them backward, lol. Comment still stands, wishing they would continue through the saga. 🤘👏
I heard the Nobunaga film not that long ago was great. I haven't checked it out yet. I wonder if they will do a film on Tokugawa
Really liked the moment whenn Toranaga said ''Why tell a dead man the future'' it was a reference to what Yabushige said about Toranaga to Omi in the early episodes, which could only mean Omi was working for Taoranaga from the start. Amazing short reference to let Yabushige know he was Toranagas pawn all this time
The flashback didnt happen, it was just a dream.
Ah, i kind of expected some battle with the cannons turing the tide...but Toranaga's goal was to win without war, which he did. My favorite live action show ever. 👍
To even compare this with Game of Thrones, which started off great and ended up a sucked out lemon.
Shogun got the ending it deserved - the book ending. People can have an idea of their own how it went on for John/Anjin-san.
No that wasn’t the future it was a dream of his future to get back to England. He gave up on that dream and let it go with Mariko.
The 1000 plus page novel had no battle! The original miniseries had no battle! So us who read the book and saw the miniseries so many years were able to live with the ending! So LOL why do you think you deserve an ending! Also In the novel Fuji dies but in the miniseries Fuji changed her mind and stayed with John and it was assumed they fell in love!
season 2?
This is the end of the story bro… not another story to tell… sad, but yeah
I wouldn't say there isn't any story to tell, just no William Clavell book to base it on. Interesting stuff continued to happen in Japan during Tokugawa's reign and even after he abdicated the position officially he remained de facto ruler until he died. Most notably the conflict between he and the Taiko's heir about a decade after he assumes the title of Shogun.
The final battle is not necessarily
No battle they could show would match what people had imagined. In the original mini-series and the book, there was only a narrated synopsis of the battle and the fates of the characters. If Ishido was able to capture Mariko, Ochiba would have continued to back him. His failure to do so was proof to her that he couldn't be trusted to protect the heir. She went to who she thought was the strongest. I was happy that they included Blackthorn's attempted seppuku. It played out very differently in the book and miniseries, though for the same reasons. I have to say that if asked which I preferred, I'm still choosing the original series (hard to give up your first love). Having said that, this was so good to watch and would recommend this to anyone.
How can you be living in Japan and pronounce "shogun" like the average gaijin reactor...? =__=
And what the hell was that line about GoT? ANYTHING is better than the ending of that show. So it doesn't mean anything.
