Really liked the moment whenn Toranaga said ''Why tell a dead man the future'' it was a reference to what Yabushige said about Toranaga to Omi in the early episodes, which could only mean Omi was working for Taoranaga from the start. Amazing short reference.

Yabu went out like a boss. He knew his fate, no messing about, sword out into the guts, get it done. I liked him despite his scheming. Toronaga was a master chess player, 5 moves ahead of everyone else.

Toranaga was truly a great warrior, he was able to defeat Ishido and bring peace without a war! INCREDIBLE! Yabushige was one of my favorite characters despite all he did, I think he was a very important piece on Toranaga’s plan.

Sooo many call backs - even the line "we're pissing into the wind" - Yabu said this in the very same spot - and then Buntaro showed up - same in the last scene - but the outcomes are different - so much has changes - characters saying lines that others said in earlier episodes - even, Fuji saying - let your hands be the last to hold her - is what Mariko said to Fuji....etc... masterful writing.

Certainly, from this time, Japan has a great peace era for about 260 years until Matthew Perry came to Japan in 1853.

    「オーガは、彼が足元に花を押しつぶした瞬間に、彼の貴重な葉のない枝を失いました。結局のところ、姉妹」
“The Ogre lost his precious Leafless Branch the moment he crushed the Flower underfoot; sisters in the end, after all” For the first time in the entire series, Ochiba sama looks directly to Ishido while talking to him; in all other episodes, she glances at him but looks away. That was the most subtle, passive-aggressive death stare I have seen on screen to date.🫣
Yabushige and Toranaga smirking at each other in the end was awesome, too. Yabushige got the best end he could have gotten, considering all he has done: realizing that whether he knew it or not, he has served his Lord Toranaga excellently. And maybe, just maybe, lightening the burden in his conscience a bit, afterall: a future Toranaga victory will never come to pass if Mariko did not die INSIDE of Osaka. Goodbye to our favourite sociopath.
Blackthorne kills a possible future version of himself-an old man, filled with regret, clutching on to Mariko’s crucifix-by mirroring Mariko (literally doing a ritual su!c!d3 like a woman [a blade through the heart] instead of seppuku [slicing his belly open] like a samurai would) in order to protect Ajiro: the first completely selfless thing he has done in the show; and also by letting that exact same crucifix go into the water along with the ashes of Fuji-sama’s family. And to think he did all those things mostly as an act of kindness to Fuji-sama… she deserves the best. 🥹🥹
"I forcced fate to gaze upon me so that I can pluck its eyes out"
    -Ochiba no Kata
Also, the fact that Anjin used the word 詰まらない【つまらない】 (tsumaranai) when he said “my war is small” can also be translated to “my wars are petty/trivial/silly/worthless” in reference to his ambitions and designs for England and his war against the Catholics. That was him letting go of his personal ambitions for something greater.
The setup to be in a position to win the final battle is mostly complete, and the broad strokes were revealed, but the details of the plan and how the battle ensued are still hidden.
So who is ready for a “new/separate” mini-series, titled “Sekigahara”?
Ohhh, and what was Toranaga holding in his left hand just before it cut to the title card?

    • @BG-Reactions

Wow thank you so much for writing all of this! Yabushige demise was a great one, he was so torn and I loved his character.
It is interesting that John did not place the blade at his stomach, it was something I noticed but did not say anything about, definitely selfless just to protect Ajiro!! Ugh I loved the scene with Fuji-sama, it was a great close to her character.
I like that the word tsumaranai has different meanings, I wish I could understand Japanese more!
It looks like maybe he was holding a fan of some sort, not sure though. Could be important 🤔

@@BG-Reactions I am glad you liked it. minor correction on your reaction. Blackthorne does not understand Japanese fully yet, but he can pick up some key words to understand the gist of what was being said; even his Japanese speech is still basic, and broken...
And i was just throwing a red herring with that last question to imply it might be Mariko's crucifix. hehehe
Might more accurately be the mask he uses for his falcon.

@@BG-Reactions The writers together with the exec. producer are back together again, traveling to Japan as we speak. Sanada San has been inked to an extended contract it has been reported. Although S1 has completed the story, the "what would have been" that played out in Toranaga's mind will be further detailed together with the Anjin culminating to what i suspect to be a reprisal of Feudal Japan's most major battle in EP10 in season 2 - Battle Of Sekigahara! (with no pandemic to hinder the production, they should not take another 5 years i hope!)

This story is fictional. It is completely different from actual Japanese history and historical figures.
Therefore, please do not ever think that you have 'learned about the real Japan' by watching this film.
If you want to know the real Japan, please study it as such.
The language and mannerisms were totally different.

    • @BG-Reactions

From what we have read and been told this was based on historical Japanese figures. We understand names were changed, things were dramatized, , it’s a book/film that is loosely based on history so to say we did not learn anything about Japanese history can’t be true. What this show has done for us is open our eyes to Japans history and makes us want to learn more about the real Japan. We did not mean to offend by saying we “learned about the real Japan”, we just appreciate that this was a dramatized version of history and take it at that. - Andrew

The team of cultural experts, historians and movement experts for the time period (aka mannerisms, walking bowing etc) were many and literally flown in from Japan. Like with almost all historical dramas, there are always liberties taken for story purposes. But to say this is entirely fictional is completely false. Study and you will learn...
