I think the Godot dev wins by a landslide, not necessarily Godot though. He was creative as hell and I think the only Engine selling points that were made were that Unity and Unreal had respectively good and good looking premade assets.

    • @jmvr
      @jmvr 7 місяців тому +24

That doesn't mean that Godot doesn't have good premade assets, because the dev just didn't use anything premade for this project. Really, as long as an asset comes with an FBX, OBJ, glTF, .blend, or other file, it can probably be used with Godot
Godot may not be super high-end and industry standard level, but it's a very capable engine, and may reach great heights in the upcoming few years. Who knows, it might become the "Blender" of the game industry (free and open-source that's almost industry standard level of quality).

I honestly feel like the Godot projects were the only realistic representations of "games made in X time" because the others used asset packs, while DaFluffyPotato actually included making all the assets in their dev time. That said, every project was really impressive given the small amount of time, I love the idea to make the mic always on and repevant to the gameplay!!

Another idea you could try would be to have someone make a base game, and each dev afterwards has to make a level with some unique aspect, like new gameplay element, theme, twist, etc. That could open up some more genre exploration and depth to the challenges, like exploring platformer/3d platformer, dungeon crawler, strategy/rts, adventure, action fighting games, story based games, rougelike and such a bit more.

Nice to see the devs really embracing their engines. The comments may not like asset packs but for a short game, the only way to pull out the true beauty of those stronger engines in such little time was to use asset packs. Potato also embraced Godot by choosing not to rely on hyper-realistic graphics, Godot obviously is inferior in that field so he approached the task differently and heightening the immersion in all other aspects eg sound, vr, lighting, atmosphere. Just shows that a weaker engine is still capable of immersing the player into the game. I can keep going on about how each dev embraced their engines strengths and weaknesses, everyone did great. Though I disagree with this comment section's hate on the use of asset packs here and how they're saying Potato won because he made his own assets, I just don't agree with that...However, i do still agree Potato won but because of his own skill and creativity. Realistically, these 3 engines have limits that are too difficult to reach (rationally ofc, a 10000vs10000 pvp fps ain't ever happening), if you have an idea, you are the determining factor on whether it's possible, the engines are merely a minuscule tool in the true art of creation.

Where I live, it's honestly pretty common for many of the trees to still have leaves when it snows (Like the above reply, we also can get early snowfall in like september), and then even weirder when they sometimes just start falling when springs almost coming up. But I do have to agree with you, giving lil hints that the planet is dead is a pretty great horror scenario.

You can probably skip the 10 minutes and 1 hour games, idk, didn't seem relevant... They are not even played. Seeing the devs create the games and also the other dev reactions is the charm of these series 😊

Interesting point! Perhaps we'll do just a quick 1 hour warm-up next time, followed by the 1 or 2 day projects.

I think Godot won, because I really loved the art style of the game. But I did get jump scared at 11:55, even though I knew it was coming XD

In terms of artstyle, I think it's more on dafluffypotato's side. He's been making some really cool and unique stuff with python pygame, a 2d engine which could be considered his forte

It'd be cool if you guys did a challenge in a similar style to forged in fire. 3 different stages for one game that may pull them out of their comfort zone with some parameters. Then give the continuing contestants free reign to use their go-to style or engine to make a game off a specific theme

what i take from this video:
the engine is just a tool (oh who did expect this) and what really counts is the idea and execution.
Godot game (1day) was the most creative in my eyes.

So I liked all 3 games, however... I assumed from the title that the devs would have to do the same game (maybe even with same assets) just in different engines.
    Maybe next time.

It would be funny to see an competition like this whit copper cube xd
Not very popular and its an no code engine so most developers would go in blind
But is very easy to learn it
As i said is an no code engine
    And is very intuitive
The variables are a bit hard to figure out but they are easy too
(Sorry for any grammatical errors is late :P)
