These pastels are excellent! Could you use. These how you would regular chalk pastels by doing a smudging affect by dragging then accross on there side? You have great content and work Hooe you upload more! :)
There are various ways to do this but one way is to get some slip dry it out to a clay consistency and roll it into pastels. To prevent it being so fragile and crumbly you can add some gum arabic, pva glue or fire them to a low temperature (about 500degrees C)
Hi,I do like this video! I want to know is that you made this pastel mixed by slipware with underglaze powder or? of colored slip? and how is the percent?
I do fire then to a very low temperature. They are a bit too crumbly and brittle without being fired. I believe you can add some kind of binder or adhesive if you don’t want to fire them.

How do you make these AMAZING pastel pencils?!

The pastels are made of slip or engobe. I tend to guess at the proportion of underglaze but it must be between 5 and 10%. You could use oxides too.
Hi Craig,
How do you make the pastels please.

The pastels are made of the engobe that I use that I dry out and form into long thin pastel shapes.
Love your video’s, so inspiring. When you make the pastels, do you fire the pastels before use? Caroline 🇹🇩

What temperature do you fire the pastels to?
