Today we're comparing three classic overdrive pedals to see...well how they compare. Going head to head is a Boss Super Overdrive, an Ibanez Tube Screamer, and Yngwie's old favorite, the DOD Overdrive/Preamp 250.
These three overdrives have been used by basically everyone at some point, and they hold legendary status in the world of guitar pedals.

I liked how you showed us how cables affect Tone (no cable vs. yes cable) even before any pedals are involved.
The DOD has always been and still is my favorite overdrive pedal.. adds just the right amount of presence and grit for lead passages. Though I’ll concede that the TS808 and SD-1 play the “always on” role a bit better.
Bought my DOD 250 about 40 years ago. No need to peddle jump. It still works.
The DOD is a hard clipper like an MXR Distortion +. The Tube Screamer and Boss are soft clippers with similar circuits.
All three pedals are just legendary, but BOSS SD1 continues to amaze me/us again and again. Probably overdrive no.1, ever.
Clearly yellow is better than green.

Maxon OD808 is also basically a tube screamer (TS-9) but for cheaper
I already own and love my 20yr old SD-1 yet this makes me want to purchase another one haha. WOW.
I figured the SD-1 would beat Dollar Screamer, but I didn't expect it to be better than 250, cool :)

My very first pedal was the DOD Overdrive. Bought it at Pampalones Music in Boston. Back in 1982.
One interesting comparison would be to compare an original grey Dod versus the Fender YJM. Another one is to try different speakers G12H30 and G12T75 especially, Yngwie seems to prefer the latest one as far as I know.
Yeah, I think he uses the 75.
Anyone of those 3 pedals into a Marshall sounds like classic rock to me

First time I get to see one of your videos the same release date, yay!!! Just ordered a new DOD 250 form Digitech website, they're on sale if anyone is interested. The SD-1 sounds great on the Marshall due to the mid hump and bass cut, basically same circuit as the TS but in simple terms, the Ibanez is like just shaved and the Boss is 3 day beard, or something like that, hehe.

I got a DOD on sale too! It took a while to get to me but it did get here. So far I like it a lot. I had to lower the bass side of my pickups to keep it from getting all flabby but I'm new to pedals so that might be common.
The SD-1 wins this with embarrassing ease
$50? Not anymore. Just check ebay and the DOD is, $200.

It's only you that made a proper comparison of the 3. The DOD is maybe a pedal just because it's legendary. So then I also need Distortion+ 😆
TS for me and my Marshall rig but the SD-1 sounded really good here. Pass on DOD (PS: never heard it pronounced like “Todd” - isn’t is D-O-D? :) Thanks for this...

I prefered the Ibanez until you cranked the gain. Then the dod really shined. The boss sounded the worst of the three

I think your next favorite budget drive pedal will be the Demon tube screamer I told you about it will be the best of both of a ts9 and the 808 combined. Cheers!

In my experience you can get pretty much any classic overdrive pedal and shape it using an EQ pedal.
I feel the same way about most amps.
Never understood why eqs aren't the single most common pedal in the world.

I would't mind any of the three pedals given to me 😂
But if it were my money I'd just buy the cheapest, that would be the Boss (new) anno 2024.

Sd1 wins for being more aggressive and suitable for heavier stuff (in boost mode into distorted amp)... But I won't mind flirting with a tube screamer since it's a classic too. Then I'd like to try a germanium type od (dod, dist+) to boost exclusively during solos like Dave Murray did in the 80's.
Have you tried the Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer Turbo? It has 4 knobs not 3. One of the knobs has 4 settings.. standard TS9, then the + setting, the Hot setting, and the Turbo setting..each one making the tone bigger as you go up from standard to Turbo.. Not more scratchy crappy modern gain, just huger tone.. Better than I thought it might be..not bad for $109 new.. Can you post up a video comparing it to other pedals and see what you think? It is worth checking out..
