  • Hi ! So happy you are here, I recently ran my first half marathon and wanted to share with you pre race, day of race and post race. I share some valuable tips and lessons I learned that hopefully encourage you, not to run a half marathon but to do something that gets you out of your comfort zone! I am looking to purchase a Garmin watch, I hear great things!
    All running equipment I talk about will be here: amzn.to/3sLeAmf
    3 lessons I learned 👇👇👇
    1. It is just you /// As someone who grew up cheering for team sports, I had never actually experienced what it felt like to achieve something on my own. This race taught me the power of personal achievement. While your community, friends, and family are amazing supporters and sources of encouragement, it’s ultimately your determination that carries you across the finish line! It is up to YOU and perseverance.
    2. Your mind will quit before your body does \\\ You will hit a pivotal moment; a critical turning point (mine was mile 9.5). At that point, it becomes a MENTAL game. You will want to quit; you’re hurting. Even though there are only about 3 miles to go, it is pure mental toughness at that point. The two things that got me through were prayer and David Goggins... and ‘Jump’ by Van Halen at the end :)
    3. Don’t just finish the race; finish strong /// As you are approaching the finish line, the last 15-20 seconds stretch is go time. I sprinted (as fast as I could at that point) across the line. I was determined to finish STRONG. That last sprint truly made me realize this isn’t my last race 👀.
    You can do anything you set your mind to. I believe in you

    I too, just did a hal-marathon last Saturday and it was tough on the last miles. But, I kept telling myself I can do this. The last time I ran a half-marathon, was in 2010. So, I trained myself, little by little. I am looking forward to another run in May. 👍

    Great job!!! I highly recommend getting a Garmin watch for running. Forerunner 965 is probably the best for running. I have the Fenix 7X Pro and it's amazing.
    The furthest I've run was a 10k for Thanksgiving last month. There's a half marathon nearby that is scheduled in May 2024 for mother's day. I'm really thinking of signing up. It's making me uncomfortable to think about, but that's probably why I should sign up for it. The jump from 10k to half marathon seems enormous but I've got 5 months to prepare so maybe i should do it.
    Keep up the great work! You have a new subscriber now 👍

    Which half is this? I just ran my first half (Brooklyn half). It rained through the race, was cold and windy and the course was 4 damn loops of the very hilly park. Still managed to finish in 2.24. P.S. not a runner either and aiming for NYC next year.

      Some races will list that headphones are banned, especially if there are public road crossings or large fields. This is usually for safety. I've never seen such a rule actually enforced, so take that as you will.

    Talking bout determination n and how we humans can achieve more than we think., to try and push even when we re tired is Ok.
    But dont give advice on eating and suplements if you are not expert. Not evwryone is the same the Carb loading is a mith mostly. There are top athletes that don t load tons of carbs in fact they just eat normal regular. Carbs are a load if saturated suvars. It actually clogging the body and makes some sluggish.
    Do not give advice on nuteiwnt intakes because everyone is different.

  • @333jjjjjj
    @333jjjjjj 8 місяців тому

    If you are reading this and targeting your first half, focus on the training, including strength training.
    Too many running influencers push buying lots of products, and then newer runners think they need to do the same, the cycle repeats. You *don't* need to carb load for a half. You *don't* even need gels for a half. Run in the shoes you are accustomed to.

    • @alexisleetrevino
      @alexisleetrevino  8 місяців тому +4

      I’m sharing my personal experience. This is what worked for me. I didn’t mention you needed to buy anything other than the gels! Good running shoes, drinking water, drinking electrolytes and eating a sufficient amount of carbs is what I suggested. Thanks!
