It's amazing how all of the quartets can go from blending into the chorus and step back into their own sound by the snap of a finger. What a fun performance.
It’s amazing how these gentlemen can continuously carry a note with such harmony and beauty! It is such a joy to sit here and listen to such beauty! These gentlemen are so talented they should be rewarded to the highest highest level of acknowledgment!
I sang for Tony's dad Joe at two Internationals, San Antonio and Kansas City. He was a Prince of a man. Tony reminds me so much of him. It brings a tear to my eye. jeffbain47@aol.com
My fave part of this video besides the quartet features, is the gentlemen on the right side of the stage (behind Fred during Crossroads’ song) enjoying every minute of the performance. ❤️😁 That, and when Jim and others in the chorus are seen smiling while the quartets are singing.
Anyone know if there's a complete arrangement for those versions of "Know When to Hold'em" and "Pennies from Heaven"? Those arrangements are awesome and I would love to hear the whole thing.
I’m on my 100th view. I really loved Masterpiece’s chart. I know this is a new arrangement for everyone, but is it possible that they recorded that song in its entirety? I’d buy it! Thank you in advance.
At 4:14, while Jim Clark's doing his bit, you can hear one of the others (can't tell who) constantly humming the note while waiting for him to finish so they don't lose the pitch
I realize your comment was from two years ago, but if you're still wondering: Masterpiece, Crossroads, Instant Classic, Storm Front, Ringmasters, Vocal Spectrum, Forefront.
This was the year that Main Street won, so I guess they didn't have time to learn the repertoire. Roger Ross might've been in there somehwere because he was in Keepsake though.
Doug became a part of the AIC as an official lead replacement for Realtime (2005) back in 2010(?) Other replacement members for various AIC quartets have also been given honorary AIC membership, like Joel T. Rutherford for Acoustix (1990) or more recently, Didier Linder for Ringmasters (2012.)
Jelly Myst in case you still don’t know, it’s the second one that sang, they sang Pennies From Heaven and consist of Fred Farrell, Mike Slamka, Dr. Jim Henry and Brandon Guyton.
I can get behind that. They’re nice guys, but Storm Front isn’t for everybody. Their humor doesn’t always land, but you gotta give them credit for always trying.
I'm sorry. But you can sure tell how the quality of sound has fallen from the quartets from 8+ years ago to now. Ringmasters, Musical Island Boys, Instant Classic, Forefront, don't have the depth, maturity or blend like the quartets of old. The exceptions would be Masterpiece and Main Street because they have veteran singers from that era that have won gold medals before. The difference in sound from the Ringmasters to Vocal Spectrum just in this clip was like night and day. No contest. The quartets from 2000-2009 for the most part can't be beat.
I disagree. The tone may have changed over the years as the barbershop style itself has evolved and moved towards more and more complex and eccentric arrangements, but the quality has certainly not fallen. These are the greatest singers in our society, but if they all sound exactly the same and don't innovate then the art form will die.
And I disagree with you. I'm not saying there isn't 'quality'. For sure these are talented singers. My point is that the SOUND and BLEND is just not as good. The more complex, jazzy arrangements there are, the less the opportunity is to blend. The barbershop style was designed for that blend due to it's standard arrangements. As for 'not evolving or die', I definitely disagree. Evolving doesn't mean 'changing drastically'. You can be innovative but still retain that style. Bluegrass Student Union were examples of that. Look at bluegrass music. It hasn't changed in 75 years and it is strong and popular as ever. AC/DC and Johnny Cash are musical examples of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
Ultimately, I think it comes down to personal preference. I love many quartets spanning from the early origins of the Society, all the way to present day. Some of my favorite quartets hail from the 90s and 2000s because that’s what I grew up listening too. For example, Platinum (2000 Champs). I think they have an insanely refined sound and blend. However... So does/did: Ringmasters (2012 Champs), Second Edition (1989 Champs), Bluegrass Student Union (1978 Champs), and The Mark IV (1969 Champs). All of these groups have very different arrangements and stylings, and come from very different times in the Societies history. But, all of them sound amazing! To say that the quality has fallen, I think, is unfair. The quality is there, it is just packaged a little differently. Every generation revolutionizes the genre, by building on each generation that came before. That is one reason I love this genre and style of singing so darn much! I can listen to quartets from each decade in the Societies history, and love what I hear. Each decade has something different to offer, yet they all have that signature, unmistakable, clearly obvious, and absolutely intoxicating Barbershop sound and style.
@ Codeman644 Well put, sir and you make some great valid points. It is a matter of preference I agree. I do appreciate the sound of Instant Classic but none of these quartets match the blend of Platinum, Keepsake and Acoustix or have that blend along with the technical and innovative style like Realtime, Max Q, and Vocal Spectrum. However, they are talented and they do sound great on their own merit.
@guibox3 Ringmasters is one of my favorite quartets. But I wont pretend that I did not hear the difference in the fullness of the sound. I agree that the difference was as clear as night and day. But I also disagree, all of the quartets had a well rounded blended sound, yet for some reason Ringmasters sounded thin in comparison. And although you did point out the obvious difference, they are missing their bass which I believe is one of the most essential parts of a quartet. So if you would point out another 2 quartets to compare the differences in blend, maybe then you can "prove" your theory.
Kyle's line in Instant Classic's song is absolutely wonderful.
4:33 "One Ringmaster to rule them all!" Rasmus nods proudly
I need a full Hey, Big Spender performance by Instant Classic. So good.
Boy, you don't know how bad I want there to be a full chart of that rendition of Pennies from Heaven.
I'd love to see a full arrangement of Big Spender... Instant Classic did a pretty great job!
Check Quorum’s page. Thanks to Clay Hine, there is one! 🙏🏻
Way ahead of ya! Already watched it like five times! Thanks for the heads-up regardless, though!
@@fagnersousa5906 look up Nicholas Hare, he arranged the song for numerous sweet adeline quartets and choruses.
It's amazing how all of the quartets can go from blending into the chorus and step back into their own sound by the snap of a finger. What a fun performance.
Crossroads is so solid still, I'm in awe
Frak you honeslty comment what i agree with lmao.
It’s amazing how these gentlemen can continuously carry a note with such harmony and beauty! It is such a joy to sit here and listen to such beauty! These gentlemen are so talented they should be rewarded to the highest highest level of acknowledgment!
I loved Tony’s foot sweep queue at the beginning.
The bass slide you mean right?
ND Bass yes 😁
Masterpiece has such a solid sound
I think you mean Masterpiece's bass has a solid sound
The baritone of Masterpiece is actually a really good baritone. He'd make my top 5 any day.
I love how Stormfront can never stop laughing at their own jokes it makes it so funny
One of my favorite things about Tony DeRosa as a director is that he never tries to join the front rows of the choruses he conducts.
He did in 2018 when Main Street was part of the chorus.
I sang for Tony's dad Joe at two Internationals, San Antonio and Kansas City. He was a Prince of a man. Tony reminds me so much of him. It brings a tear to my eye. jeffbain47@aol.com
Also, no hate for those who do that, I just think it's kind of weird as someone who came from the orchestral world lol
Wow, can't believe I'm just now listening to this!! Does anyone know if there's a full arrangement of Hey Big Spender?
My fave part of this video besides the quartet features, is the gentlemen on the right side of the stage (behind Fred during Crossroads’ song) enjoying every minute of the performance. ❤️😁 That, and when Jim and others in the chorus are seen smiling while the quartets are singing.
That was great, all those champions back to back really gives a great impression of their differences in sound and style!
I need full arrangements of the Crossroads, Forefront and Vocal Spectrum portions in my life, stat.
1:21 god masterpiece you’re nuts
I love how each of the songs fit the quartets so well.
2:49 Just strengthens my love for The Instant Classic! They are and always will be my favorite quartet!
Too bad Martin from Ringmasters wasn't there. Matthew , from Musical Island Boys, was a great choice as his fill-in. 👍😄
Unfortunately Martin was kicked out of Ringmasters for never being able to make it to events
@@wesleynewsam thats not correct, Martin had his reasons, his dedication towards his new career was more important to him
Unfortunately this comment didn't age that well. :-)
@@wesleynewsam He retired. He wasn't kicked out. He is an incredibly successful Executive Director for JP Morgan Sweden.
@@Jdkieddj Martin doesn't work for JP Morgan - wrong Martin Wahlgren. He works for the Swedish Telecom Authority.
Tony conducting has my dying, the little hop he does in the beginning is hilarious to me I don’t know why
Also, he never tries to join the front rows of choruses he directs.
oww wow i never thought i would see a large group of talented singing daddies in 1 place
Would love a full chart of Can't Buy Me Love!
Watching the chorus members behind each quartet is pretty funny. 😅
I heart Instant Classic !!!
samantha Kennedy I want a full arrangement of their song so bad
These guys are all WINNERS..... see their BLUE RIBBON medals!!! Great job fellows!
How did they not have Money Money Money by ABBA in this medley?
Anyone know if there's a complete arrangement for those versions of "Know When to Hold'em" and "Pennies from Heaven"? Those arrangements are awesome and I would love to hear the whole thing.
The Know When to Hold'Em song is The Gambler by Kenny Rogers. I tried, but I couldn't find a barbershop arrangement of the full song.
ua-cam.com/video/eYsR79FyKYo/v-deo.html Quorum just uploaded the full chart of Pennies From Heaven.
Such great quartets from this chorus! And the whole chorus is wonderful!
If Clay Hine finds this, please commission a full arrangement of that "Pennies from Heaven" rendition.
UPDATE: Thank you for blessing our eardrums 🙏🏻
I'll be damned if that isn't one beautiful sound. I can't imagine what it would be like to experience live
6:45 The guy behind the bass is making me nervous.
I’m on my 100th view. I really loved Masterpiece’s chart. I know this is a new arrangement for everyone, but is it possible that they recorded that song in its entirety? I’d buy it! Thank you in advance.
Wiener-Doo It was recorded by Marquis (95 Champs) on their “Wee small hours” CD. Available on iTunes
At 4:14, while Jim Clark's doing his bit, you can hear one of the others (can't tell who) constantly humming the note while waiting for him to finish so they don't lose the pitch
Me gusta mucho. Todos cantan genial.
There are a few quartets I don't know. Could somebody please list in order of appearance?
THANKS
I realize your comment was from two years ago, but if you're still wondering: Masterpiece, Crossroads, Instant Classic, Storm Front, Ringmasters, Vocal Spectrum, Forefront.
My favorite is every time they all synchronize their breath
Somebody explain, why is Tony DeRosa conducting but Main Street isn't there?
This was the year that Main Street won, so I guess they didn't have time to learn the repertoire. Roger Ross might've been in there somehwere because he was in Keepsake though.
AIC show is before the champs were crowned, so main street hadn’t actually won at this point
This wasn't the first time Tony directed the AIC choir. With three gold medals as of this performance, it's hard to say he didn't earn the position.
Brilliant
I saw the lead of via voice here
What quartet did he win with
2005 as Realtime before name change to Via Voice. As far as I can tell from their page evgsings.org/node/26
Who are these guys? I've been away too long. Great musicality.
Who sung bass with ringmasters?
Great!
What is the name of the last quartet? Their lead has such a good tone.
forefront
Where does Vocal Spectrum go after they finish their song?
well damn I clicked on this again
Watch it with x1.25 speed (especially with instant classic) thank me later
If that intro is the last thing I ever hear I'll die happy, like holy shit 😍🎶
Sweet. Don't get much better than that.
Does anybody know the solo singers in the beginning? 😅
Gary Lewis (Platinum, Max Q), John Miller (Grandma's Boys, The new Tradition), Kohl Kitzmiller (Instant Classic) and Tom Metzger (Realtime)
I’m pretty sure I think I might’ve heard quorum somewhere in the mix.
Crossroads had the most solid sound ! some of the other quartets had a very thin sound compared.
Could you remind me which quartet was Crossroads?
Jelly Myst in case you still don’t know, it’s the second one that sang, they sang Pennies From Heaven and consist of Fred Farrell, Mike Slamka, Dr. Jim Henry and Brandon Guyton.
5:33 "I made a life of readiing peoples feces?" - Nice
I snorted from laughter at this.
Disappointed realtime didn't sing. They are ok e of my favorites
Unitarian universalist society of
Pennies from Heaven was great too
Maybe its just me, but I just cannot stand Storm Front. Looks like Ringmasters was getting a little annoyed with them too.
jcirmsa i think they are funny normally but they did drag on their part of the show which was annoying.
Haha, they ALWAYS drag on their part of the show! ;-)
I can get behind that. They’re nice guys, but Storm Front isn’t for everybody. Their humor doesn’t always land, but you gotta give them credit for always trying.
Jakob does not look impressed 4:18
