I am a retired librarian in the US and would love to see a feature on interesting libraries in historic homes. Books that are old are not necessarily rare and vice versa. What did people collect that's unique or extensive on a given topic? Thanks 😘
I would love that also. I love books and every time I see bookshelves like you had behind you, I would love to know something about the books on those shelves so please consider this for a topic. Thank you.
I love this idea of covering houses with specific topics. Royal connections, ghosts, servant lives/duties (in particular showing how things used to be done with old equipment/techniques) are all very interesting subjects. It might also be interesting to do a show on architects or architectural style and craftsman who built and crafted the houses/castles you include. Thank you for sharing this marvelous content! 🌷
I love knowing or learning how people lived in the past in their old houses, both upstairs and downstairs. Cooking, cleaning, eating, dressing as well as hobbies.
I took a two week class at Oxford University through the Smithsonian in 1985. We visited Chaselton House, which had untouched Jacobean Architecture and decor. This home is now a National Trust property. I hope that you will visit this location as an example of the architecture and how the lack of funds can impact maintenance and repairs. This home obviously had an impact on me, since I clearly remember visiting all of these years later.
I'm excited to learn about the ghosts. I worked at Colonial Williamsburg for nearly seven years, and my coworkers and I each had our own ghost encounter stories. One in particular visited me at work frequently and was quite mischievous.
I would love to hear your personal stories! I visited there a few months ago and did a night ghost tour, which was rather disappointing with very old hearsay "ghost stories".
@@DanielleGlickI would tell people to skip the ghost tour if they were expecting to see a ghost. It's fine if you like to hear ghost stories and want to see where they have been sighted.
Love the idea. However, if you are only going to do two episodes per historic house, I hope they will be longer videos. Otherwise, I don't think it will do them justice. And yes, the attics & basements/cellars and outbuildings are extremely interesting. As well as their gardens of course.
It would also be nice to see how if one were to come visit one of these castles/historic homes, how and who would we contact? Julie's way of expressing herself is such a gift in that she not only leave any stone unturned, but her content building keeps you coming back for more. Thank you, American Viscountess!
Gardens, gardens, gardens! These historic houses/castles often come with lovely ones, usually designed by someone of note. Love to see this if it works with your episodes.
I would love to find out more about the families who have lived in each of these homes and discuss the improvements/ changes putbin place by each family
That is a grand theme song you've added. The prelude to your video montages from the library reminds me of Rod Sterling of the Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock introducing an intriguing show.
I love how your channel has emerged from quite a simple, "beginners"style (at the start) to becoming quite grandiose and incredibly professional! It's lovely to watch the metamorphosis and good on you for always persevering and putting in the hard work! Congratulations...it's going to be wonderful I'm sure! 🤩🤗☺💖👏👏👏
I was a member for two years of “friends of historic houses” and it is well worth the dues to become a member. It was wonderful to be able to tour and see homes that aren’t always tourist attractions.
I’m very pleased to hear your change is to expand the scope of your focus. Including Royal connections & associations in the lead up to the Coronation would be a wonderful inclusion.
I love this idea and am very excited for all the changes and future episodes of American Viscountess. A suggestion for an episode: The Kitchens of different historic houses! Mapperton's kitchen is one of my favorites so I would love to see the kitchens of other country houses and see if they have Agas too.
Love the new concept. Exploring the historic houses and adding additional content 👌. Especially like attics, ghosts, film and upstairs/downstairs. Honestly, I was a little concerned when I learned of the special announcement today. Also, nice to see Luke with you.
Absolutely love the idea of this format. It would be interesting to hear more about the special books in the historic libraries too and how the staffing has changed over the years
Will you and the Viscount be participating in the Coronation celebrations personally? I'd love to see you wearing that gorgeous tiara. Or would that be the honor of your mother in law? I'm fairly certain that there are robes to be worn according to rank as well. I'm an American whose Ancestry is British and I love all things British. My family are faily recent immigrants to the US (20th Century) and I'm in touch with many of my family in England. I'm old enough to have witnessed The Coronation in 1953 and although I was small I was mesmerized. I'm certain you will include many royal related topics in your presentations and I'm looking forward to that. Your channels are magnificent! Keep up the great work.
Fantastic to hear all of this. A more formalized regular release and format gives us something to look forward to each week.. and love the idea of theme based episodes. Greatly looking forward to future videos! Hoping for a collection of historic houses recipes and ultimately a cookbook that I can add to my collection!!! 🙏
Couldn't agree more! I discovered Julie when she was on "that" show and she was the only true lady among them. It's so lovely to see her thriving. This channel is so interesting and inspiring.
I love hearing about the women's lives. Their daily routines, clothes needed for the activities, hobbies, etc. How this was different regionally as well. Also explaining to Americans why/how etc the systems emerged and functioned just to live within a home like this. Such as, if you were hungry at night could you wander to the kitchen and get a cookie?
I 100% am interested in the "downstairs" staff stories, and hidden things! It's really the everyday people who are the backbone of history, and they're more often than not overlooked.
My mother was an inveterate knitter. I think as a mental health professional it was her way of blowing off steam, and she was also a depression era baby, that plays in too. Okay what’s my point? I think Julie is going to single handedly bring back vests. Dial down and layer. And now since I haven’t seen all of season 1 I’m going to binge watch it.
Please go in depth of the role the house (or it's owners) played in it's community at the time it was being built. What was the town's industry at the time, why did the owner choose that location, how did they support or contribute to their community at them time... I love hearing the house history but it's so much better to see the perspective of it's role in its larger community.
It will be lovely to see. Libraries, hatics, dungeons, secret doors, how the former owners built it and why they disappeared, their role during WWII, paintings, etc.
@@AmericanViscountess Yes, I'm looking forward to what both Channels are going to show this year! I know they will be amazing!!!!! Can you please have John and Caroline do more shows, too?! I love their stories!
LOVE the direction you are taking season 3! Historic, libraries, settings from novels or authors, hidden rooms/hidden bookshelves, dungeons, attics, ghosts/haunted, royalty, regeneratative farming. England has been populated so long, there is history in every single square inch!
Some topics: gardens; significant historical events tied to castles, manors, houses; accomplished women; seasonal fare (Christmas decor in various locations); wildlife; furnishings; cooking / food preparation over the years; architectural advancements; reconstructions / renovations; celebrations, balls, festivals, etc.
My favorite part of American Countess is Julie’s enthusiasm in her presentations. Many of the ideas I like probably not so much the ghosts, not a believer. But the nooks and crannies of historical homes sound amazing!
I am commenting on Luke's idea to put the servants in the spotlight a bit during your shows. That's what initially attracted me to American Viscountess. Julie gets in there and gets her hands dirty and shows us the gardens, the barns, the animal herds. Please yes! More information about how the "downstairs" lived and worked is a great idea! Love you guys!! Chris in Seattle
I am assuming with the Italian villa, doing her dissertation, and hosting people to see Mapperton , along with also filming other historical houses in Britain her time is getting limited.
Sounds fascinating. Definitely interested in "downstairs" lives. Also how estates worked in the "old days", what their components were. Some dives into specific architects would be interesting (following their career thru several houses) or a similar progression on the development of successive architectural styles. And a similar review of the evolution of garden design. Overall, as I read back over my comment, I would find historical context and evolution of interest, understanding how the houses were used, how the community that supported them worked, how they evolved.
I love historic houses. I love learning about the people who live in them currently and about how people lived in them in the past both upstairs and downstairs.
Would LOVE stories about the staff the downstairs! It would be fabulous. There are so many tragic stories that I’ve seen on shows like “finding your roots” or “who do you think you are”!
I would love to see Historic Churches. I know many of the homes have their own Churches on the property and their are plenty of amazing Churches and stories in the towns and villages. You could most likely do a whole new channel on them.
I would love to see cellars, attics, kitchens and a rare look of the areas in these houses that the actual owners live in. We know they don’t usually live in the grand areas of the house but have separate living quarters tucked away.
Hello from you fellow Illinoisian. I first saw you on Ladies of London and watched you through the years. Being immersed in such regal history, be it your family, home or the the country is awesome. My family went on a British Isles tour in 2010 and I loved every second of it. I felt at home.
I would love to see segments on how to care for and keep the treasures in the houses..how is the silver kept so beautiful? How to polish antique furniture? How do you live your life around these pieces…enjoying them while still caring for them? This might make antiques more approachable, and less ‘stuffy’, especially for those who are new to appreciating antiques. I don’t understand why some people who seem earth-conscious won’t consider antiques. Thanks! Exciting venture.
I actually liked your old format because it was so different than what other TV shows about historic houses have done. I think the main differences that make your show unique and enjoyable is Julie being a historic home owner talking with fellow historic home owners; no other show offers that *shared personal perspective*. And it was unique they let you sleep several nights there (especially the houses that aren't hotels). This allowed you to really get to know the place and people, and show it at different times of day and weather. Your series felt like watching someone reconnect with distant relatives, rather than a TV host quickly interviewing at multiple houses to create a series. So as you make changes, I hope these unique qualities will remain intact. The topics you mentioned, like ghosts and servants, are all interesting. I think they would be most interesting first told within the context of their own house's episode. Then when this season is over, you could do themed recap episodes, for example, reusing the ghost scenes from each house, with new commentary scenes filmed in your home to link all the houses' ghosts together. You could even show extended cuts that didn't make the individual house episodes. This would be a great way to get more episodes out of each shoot and tell these stories from multiple perspectives. :-)
Change is good ! I’m all for it ! It’s essential for UA-cam channels and content longevity ❤️ it has further peaked my curiosity now ! God bless your home
I have an idea. Like thousands of others in the last three years, to give myself something to do, I've been researching my family history, which has turned up some interesting connections. There are bound to be people who watch your channel who are your distant cousins. It would be interesting to have an episode, or a series of episodes about these connections, like 'Who Do You Think You Are'?'
I think everything you mentioned is interesting. Drama, treasures, ghosts, dungeons, royal connection, other connections. Day in the life of. All of that please 😊
(I am an American who Married an Italian and we live in Italy) My husband and I went to Scotland for our honeymoon in October 2014 for the whole month. We visited so many wonderful castles, it was fantastic! Some were closed for the Season, so we couldn't see a couple of the one's we were hoping to see, like Balmore. But, I am super excited to watch this Season of your Videos. BTW, I am a new follower to your cannel, I had your channel pop up as a suggestion on UA-cam. Probably because I follow Maperton Chanell already. Love both of your Channels. ❤
THANK YOU for educating this South Carolina dweller to all things UK. Scotland is in my soul. My thought, whenever I see a beautiful old manor or castle (that is still intact), is 'what do the owners do to keep that place going?" I know you and Luke have worked so hard with and for Mapperton. What do these other owners do? Surely 'family money' doesn't cut the expenses. Where do they get the funds to keep these magnificent places from crumbling? What a lot of work and thought I would imagine.... again referencing you and Luke.. Have great fun on your new adventure,, I will be gleefully tagging along with you.
I would love to hear about some of the ruins and abandoned historic houses and castles, and what you know of them. There's something beautiful but very sad and moving about them. They used to be a hub of life, then something happened to them and now they're alone, sometimes for hundreds of years.
I’m so excited you’re going to Glamis! One of my ancestors is said to haunt it! My ancestors are the Lindsays, but I can’t remember off hand if the gambling ghost was named Lindsay or DeLindsay - or something in the region of. Lots of great Lindsay stories passed down through the generations. Can’t wait!
12 magnificent watchable journals as you travel and bring to us such marvelous places, seems I will now be more than a Mapperton Patron, signing up to support American Viscountess. To bring these historic homes to us, their stories, their years of history, their secrets, their glory, all I can say is thank you. Season 1 and 2 were so highly anticipated and I loved each one. Now this new format has me on the edge of my seat and more excited than words can express. Thank you.
I am really looking forward to the coming years of shows. All of your ideas for stories sound really good...upstairs/downstairs, ghosts, celebrities etc. I love the history and stories you have already told and can't wait for more! 😊
I would love the servant point of view. Plus the Addington scandal. I love this idea. I wish I lived there so I can see these homes. Flying over them to Germany I saw so many of these homes.
This is really exciting. The historic house tours are my favorite thing with your channels! Being an amateur ghost hunter myself, this is even more exciting! Can’t wait!! ❤️👍
Oo! Yes! Servants’ experiences would be very interesting because, at least I don’t ever see that covered in much detail. The historical figures link also sounds fascinating. I have ancestors linked to prominent Scottish figures. My great-…grandfather raised William Wallace after his parents died, for example. Mary Stuart’s horrible husband Lord Darnley is a relative too, though I (conveniently 😅) forget how our lineage connects. Is that a grand piano to Julie’s left? 😍 Does anyone play it? Can’t wait to see what’s coming! 🤩
Attics are awesome. also Barns, Staff how it really was in the time. As a retired Chef, I like the utensils of kitchen. Maybe old recipes. This is going to be wonderful. I can't wait.
I would be very interested in learning more about the servants perspective and learning more about quirky aspects of these historic houses (secret rooms, dungeons, tunnels, etc).
I love all your ideas and programmes, you always hit the nail on the head. Your increasing knowledge, enthusiasm, and ideas are always welcome. I ofren feel as though I am there as your enthusiasm carries me along! Thank you.
Love the idea of going through attics. Also like learning about childcare through the ages. Interesting to learn about servants but I'm certain in a previous life I was a scullery maid!!
Yes! on the upstairs downstairs and rummaging through the attic - basement. I like another follower's suggestion on libraries too. And gardens of course. I often wonder if any of these great houses take paying guests. I was also thinking how Mapperton could be the location for more historic films. - A Georgette Heyer book into film would be fantastic!! In any case it all Sounds intriguing. Good for you guys changing it up a bit! > Thank you
I love the idea of how these grand old houses were "run" behind the scenes, and a rummage in the attic is always fun to find articles of clothing or household things that might not be familiar in our current times.
Love the banter between Julie & Luke! The photo of them behind them while they were talking! Loved seeing the Earl and hearing about his American TV appearance - he looks so much like Luke back then!! Laughed at Chris & Ben. Absolutely loved the photographs of Julie and Luke!! ❤️
I think your new direction sounds fascinating. I can't wait for the ghost stories. I don't actually believe in ghosts, but I love the stories; who haunts, why haunts, etc.
It would be really interesting if you can do an episode on Walcott Hall. Last year I found out that my 13th great grandfather was John Walcott II, thought his great grandson William Walcott, and it would be interesting to learn more about my ancestors family estate.
Wow! What a conundrum it must be to have to categorize - and then rank - specific features of these historic homes! When I was born, my family lived in a house that was built during the American Revolution, then partially rebuilt in the early 1800s after a fire. Six bedrooms; six fireplaces; a glorious (and all-important) cellar; a wonderful, haunted attic; a foyer that was big enough to double as a dance hall on special occasions - and only one bathroom! But, outside, 160 acres, and apple and pear trees. Blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, currants, and grapes (yes, oddly enough we had a small arbor). Two vegetable gardens. A two-story barn and cows, horses, pigs, roosters, chickens, dogs, and cats - lots of cats. Plus deer, beavers, skunks - and whatever else chose to roam free. From the piano in the foyer to the porch on which we churned our own butter, to the rifle range and the view from our hilltop perch, it was a wonderful home full of history, memories, and a deep sense of pride. It would be nearly impossible for me to break that wonderful home down into simple categories because they all intertwined at a very fundamental level. I LOVE what you are planning, but I know it will be a big job. I wish you the greatest good luck and tons of blessings!
This is a really exciting update and change to the channel. One category I would love to see in your series is learning about how different downstairs rooms were used, i.e., larder, laundry, boot room, silver room. And how they are now being used. Are they being re-purposed or are they mostly left vacant .
Maybe you can also create calendars that we could purchase? Can hardly wait for the new shows. Looking forward to It. Definitely sounds like you both are stepping up your game. I know it's a lot harder than it looks but you both are do a great job! Thank you! You have no idea what it is like for me to escape the stressful life by watching a fairy tale existence of yesterday.

It all sounds great and I can't wait to watch it
Would love to see the American viscountess come back to America and visit historic houses
I'm interested to see attics, basements! And learning about the craftsmen and artisans who help with historically accurate repairs.
I think everything you mentioned is interesting. Drama, treasures, ghosts, dungeons, royal connection, other connections. Day in the life of. All of that please 😊
I just ❤️ your content, Viscountess Julia. So wherever you're going, I will tune in!
It is always so nice to hear the Duke’s reflections also
(I am an American who Married an Italian and we live in Italy) My husband and I went to Scotland for our honeymoon in October 2014 for the whole month. ❤
I would love to hear about the servants daily lives, and more about the kitchens, please. Thank you! ❤❤❤
Love all your ideas for this year. Can’t wait to see them!!
Yay! Thank you!
Yes, very interested in the servants' lives in these homes. Good work and location of movie work.
Can’t wait!
I love the "Upstairs Downstairs" idea. Would be interesting to learn about how the staff lived.
So looking forward to this. I’ll never get over from the USA so this is the next best thing. Bless you all.
I’d love to see you two dancing together - any dance will do slow or otherwise preferably slow dancing 💗
Oo!
Love learning about the lives of the servants! If you get back stateside, you must go to Biltmore in Asheville, NC.
> Thank you
I mean, the interest isn't limited to the architecture. There is an interest for the upstairs/downstairs, so to say.
Looking forward to Season 3!
I do not normally make comments like this, but you look stunning in the thumbnail photograph.
right, she does
I love the idea of how these grand old houses were "run" behind the scenes, and a rummage in the attic is always fun to find articles of clothing or household things that might not be familiar in our current times.
I do like the personal chats with the owners or custodians of the places you go
Great video as always, very tight editing, excellent to watch 👍👍
Thanks you guys!!!
Love the banter between Julie & Luke! The photo of them behind them while they were talking! Loved seeing the Earl and hearing about his American TV appearance - he looks so much like Luke back then!! Laughed at Chris & Ben. Absolutely loved the photographs of Julie and Luke!! ❤️
Sounds fantastic! Can't wait to se these wonderful Manor estates and their history.
Looking forward to these changes. I am interested in history, and this sounds very interesting. Keep up the good job.
I think your new direction sounds fascinating. I can't wait for the ghost stories. I don't actually believe in ghosts, but I love the stories; who haunts, why haunts, etc.
It would be really interesting if you can do an episode on Walcott Hall. Last year I found out that my 13th great grandfather was John Walcott II, thought his great grandson William Walcott, and it would be interesting to learn more about my ancestors family estate.
love, love, love what you have planned here. Can't wait!
I think i have been missing something good by only watching Mapperton Live! I will subscribe to these American Viscount shows!
You are both adorable carry on Luke andJulie
tons of good ideas - both from you two and from viewers! will watch them all!!! thanks. ❤
Julia should be an actress. She is so good. Comfortable with the camera and natural speakers.
