You’ve done a beautiful paint job, Julie, and the mirrors are gorgeous! Please consider not painting your stairs black; the wood is so warm and beautiful, but, in my opinion black is cold. The black wrought iron banister stands out and looks great but it will disappear with black steps. This is my opinion and I’m sure there will be lots of different opinions about this. I love your cozy Italian getaway, you’ve put a lot of work into it.❤️🇨🇦
@@chrismaraccini8108 riiiight?!? And now I think she’s coming from living in that old castle for so long. She probably wants new new now. But this IS new new. Except for utilities/upkeep/safety of course-I wouldn’t rip up, tear down, remove, anything that was in fine condition. And SallyAnn has a good idea, they are just painted wood. Repainting them with a runner would look so nice. 🇮🇹 Aren’t those walls in the kitchen extraordinary?? 😍
@@mnamber Yes I love the way that whoever redid the walls left openings for the original stone walls to show through. Such a sweet home. Doesn't it make you feel like buying one of your own in Italy?

Brava Julie! You did a marvelous job - I am always awed by your determination and ability to complete your tasks. The little house is turning into a GEM.
And pulling the tape at an angle, instead of straight toward you. Edited to say that your design is so lovely. The curation shows your attention to detail. Anyone would feel at home there. It is a place that is feeling like a warm hug, a gentle soft landing to decompress and create life long memories
And, all blue and green tape isn't the same. The core inside tells you which is what by color. The orange core of blue tape is the delicate one that is best used for this. It won't remove the paint underneath as long as the paint isn't chipped and peeling. And, yes prep always takes longer than the actual paint job. My husband is a contractor and I used to work with him. Customers have a hard time understanding why it takes so long to do a job and why it costs so much. You can't just slap a coat of paint over the old and it will be good. And, when you have to go in behind people that have tried to do things themselves without knowing what they are doing it takes even longer than it would before. Another thing, when using tape, pull it as soon as you are done painting that area so the paint doesn't dry and also cause peeling. Paint one wall then pull the tape before you go on to the next. Also, using wider tape will make it where you can use a roller on it and not get paint on the other areas.
If you paint the stairs they will show wear and tear quickly. If you want them dark then get a dark opaque stain to put on them instead of actual paint.
Painting on a special antique lamp with a sharpie is the perfect representation of English aristocracy combined with American style. - Or a description of your personality. And I love it! 🥰
It looks terrific, Julie. I agree about keeping the stairs wood rather than painting them black. I usually love black and use it all over my house, but I tend to agree with Jan's comment below. I can hardly wait to get back to Italy. It's been a long three years...
Adding the second paint color on the hall made such a difference ! Love it! And please don’t paint the stairs. The wood is so beautiful, warm and inviting. A nice contrast to the paint. What a sweet get-away you are creating.
The bedrooms look gorgeous, and it’s obvious that you’ve thought of every little detail. I agree with everyone else here about leaving the stairs as they are. How about a shabby chic two tone finish on the rails, with maybe a little bit of bronze paint dotted here and there on the parts that won’t be touched.
You did AMAZING, Julie, that must be so satisfying! Please don't paint those stairs black, do a dark or very dark stain instead. Trust me, you'll regret it if you paint.
Really love your decorating style! Agree with others against painting the stairs black. Scuffs on wood just add to the antique charm but scuffs on black not so much. What's next, the kitchen? 😊
Fabulous! You’ve done such a great job, Julie. The mirrors are perfect and the carpet fab. Please don’t paint the stairs…a stain maybe, but they’re so lovely and rich as they are. Your home is taking excellent shape, and will be a glorious haven for restful getaways from Mapperton. ❤
You're hanging the laundry outside on a top patio reminds me of older TV or movie shows that tell a story about the people in New York etc. Since there were a lot of Italian immigrants that came to the New World the same way they did things in the old Country was done here. Always enjoying your enthusiasm over new treasure. Thanks for sharing
Seeing the little Italian house and the renovations are my favorite! One of my biggest regrets in an old home renovation was painting the beautiful wood stairs. Off topic, but your hair looks so pretty! 😊
There is a way to mark a straight line that goes much quicker. You will still need to tape before painting, but the “measuring” is much easier. Get a “chalk line marker”. It is very accurate. Instructions on how to use it are included. I love your little Italian house and all you have done to restore, renovate, and decorate it.

Having painted many rooms in my day the taping is the worst part of the job but the most necessary. Love what you are doing to your little Italian home. Keep up the good work.
Oh my, what a great paint job and those mirrors are just beautiful, especially the Venetian one. Such a calm and lovely retreat you are creating for yourself and those fortunate to spend time with you.
How beautiful! You've done so much already and it looks amazing! After 5 years of living in Italy after moving from Los Angeles, we recently just bought a Tuscan seaside villa along the Livorno coast. It's been a whirlwind as you can imagine, but piano piano we are getting there. Tuscan may seem large but you never know, one day we might run into one another 😊 Ciao from Casa Ardor!
I like what you've done. I especially liked the black paint on the wall sconce. Plus that mirror you fell so madly in love with is out of this world perfect. Congrats!
You’ve done a very good job, having renovated an old stone house in France I can appreciate the sheer hard work with long days, set backs and triumphs all made more difficult by time restrictions. You have inspired me to re-decorate, every time my husband hears that word from my lips I can see the fear 😂🤣😂🤣 well done!
Julie the paint job is fantastic and the hall runner is gorgeous. If you paint the stairs black, I bet some Italian folk inspired stencils in a lighter colour on the risers would be nice.
Great job on the paint. I agree I would not paint the stairs black the natural wood looks so warm and cozy. And I was disappointed when you did not take us along for the Americano, love your little village.
I love the outcome! It is quite lovely. The art, and the rug look perfect in that hallway! I also wanted to say how much I love your online flea market finds!
Congrats on your first propper project 😊 your americano is well deserved. Ps… little pro tip… decide if you want your stairs black before you start sanding. You've done a really good job on decorating the hallway, including the painting. Please reconsider painting the stairs. The wood is a lovely colour and gives an aged look. Painting them will look modern and will be a pain to keep looking nice because the paint will be scratched etc quickly and easily

The stairs look like they're already painted brown - not a natural wood finish. I'd paint them pale but then put a runner up the middle.

Agree. That skinny white tape is definitely 'old school;' wider blue or green is just so much better, ease of use, no bleed, easy removal.
If you paint the stairs they will show wear and tear quickly. If you want them dark then get a dark opaque stain to put on them instead of actual paint.
