Cut the old grips off. Clean the bars. Grab your new grips and fill one with gas. Give it about 20 or thirty seconds and then dump the fuel out and quickly slide on your grip and position where desired. They will basically melt on the bars. You can wire them but I have never had one slip. Done. Many different ways to do it but the old gas trick is a good one. Good video. FYI, if you have handguards that go into the bar ends, install grips prior to cutting a new hole for the handguards. I appreciate your videos, Kyle.
Just a quick Aussie bush tip, petrol or gas as you guys like to call it, also works really well The petrol kind of melts a tiny bit of the rubber inside your grip which forms a glue itself, then the grip will slide on really easy and being petrol, it evaporates really fast meaning the grip will stick really fast and it's ready to ride 5 or 10minutes after you put the grips on Another reason it's handy is everyone has fuel with them when they are riding but not everyone carries grip glue or wire. :)
Oh and a quick throttle tube tip. Put a penny or a nickel in the end of your grip when putting it on so nothing can get in the end of the throttle tube. Also gives you a little fall protection.
Thanks for the tips, these vids really help a dirt bike newbie like myself. It's easy to believe that, like you said, there's always that feedback that you're doing something wrong and such (always is), but there are endless ways of doing things. It's always best to check several tutorials and pick your own way. I for instance used contact spray to remove old grips non-invasively (and very easily too), cleaned bar with acetone (old glue) and contact spray, sanded with grade 800 (preferred a bit finer) and used clear coat as a glue. But even though I did things a bit differently, this video still added a lot of insights and variations to maybe try out some day. :)
I've never liked full waffle grips. My favorite grip so far is the pro taper pillow top. I have used the Emig lock on grips and there pretty good, but I feel like there isn't enough cushion in the palm of my hand.
I use the Pro Taper Pillow Top grips, find them great on my 2 strokes ( SX250 and TE300) for absorbing some of the vibration. Always used Rental medium on Trials bikes.
Thank you for this video! I'm about to replace the hand grips on a 2016 KTM 50 SX Mini. I really like your channel. I subscribed a few weeks back. You really know a lot about dirt bikes! I learn something every time I watch one of your videos.
Love the video... well done .. going to try the compressed air trick before cutting and since I don't have grip glue will try the hairspray from the bathroom :) Pro Taper Pillow Top Lites for my KTM 500 is what I'm going with..
7:55 You put glue inside the end of the throttle grip.. what do you think will happen when it sets on the throttle lol? What i do is slide it in and the unfold it , and glue it .. doesn't need to go all the way on throttle side since its so tight. They never turned on me doing it the way i do and never bind on the throttle.
I usually spray brake clean or carb cleaner on the bar, slide the grip on, and it makes the rubber sticky and soft until it dries. I find the glue doesn't get enough air and it never seems to dry properly.
I did that recently, both grips split in 20 minutes, the brake cleaner ruined the rubber. I have used it for many years, and that was the 1st time it happened. Hair spray is the way to go.
I like using Methyl Ethyl Ketone or MEK to clean the surface after sanding, the stuff dissolves the excess glue and rubber that might be left from the old grip
Hair spray is what I use for my dirt bike, the wife’s quad, and my street bike. Slippery when you put it on, dries quickly and stays in place. Never heard of anyone using paint. That’s new.
I have installed the ODI locking grips on my last two bikes and I'm putting them on my new husky( medium compound half waffle). they are great grips and have nice cutouts for handguard mounts as well...
I use pro taper; but I like to add a bit of stickiness to my grips (literally) I don't know if anyone has tried it but sticky grips are the best especially if you live in Hawaii like me they make great for trail usage
Love those pillow tops too . Devo you cut them off . Wet method I quick spray of brake clean or carby/throttle body cleaner . Slide it on ( inc the Aussie 5c bar end ). Or dry use compressed air blowing into grip expanded the grip away from the bar as you slide it on . I’ve tried all sorts of grip glues etc and never found anything really gets even coverage or long lasting . Ps replace that broken front brake lever !
I have bad luck with the odi lock on grips. The clutch side grip does not fit over many popular handle bars including protaper and rental. Sanding the bar is required, which I didn't do because I assumed these should just be easy to install (which is the main reason to buy these grips in the first place). Going back to glue on grips.
Great im actually taking the bike apart and we are half way to putting it together and now I know how to put on the bike grips or change because we need to.
The pillow top I run on my wr250r as I found the bars had a high frequency vibration that would numb my hands. For strictly off road I like the half waffle like you put on your Ktm.
I've only used stock grips and Scott waffle grips the scotts are rreally nice feeling I think and easier for longer riding but I've only had them and stock
i just clean up the bars, put about 10 zip ties in the grip, slide it into position, pull out the zip ties and your good to go. no glue needed, no dry time :) and my personal favorite has always been the scott full waffle grips
Good Stuff,,, Thankyou for your video. I have used and pour rubbing alcohol into grip , pour out and quickly install. Ready about the same time as gasoline. So far so good i recon.
I really like the pro taper pillows… but…. I can’t get more than a month of use before replacing. I ride 2 hours per day hard riding. Good ole hairspray works well on grip install
The easiest way is to poke a small hole in the butt of the handle and use an air compressor with a needle attachment in it, and it slides right off and on. If you don't want to poke a hole, you can use the air compressor nozzle and poke it in the crack between the bar and the grip and it works almost as good. This is the best method because hair spray and alcohol mostly evaporates, but not completely as there is some water in that.
I needed grips for like 3 years now. They were half gone all ripped up i dont use gloves so i dont notice really. Anyway went to put them on was dighting to fit it on never noticed they were different sizes
the easiest way to get to grips to slide on and stay put (and instantly, perfect if you wanna ride at once) is to wrap some sticky hockey tape (the one you wrap around the blade) on the bar where the handles will be, then poore some gasoline into the handle and splash it around in there.. spill out the gasoline and put it on the bar.. the gasoline evaporates quickly and makes the handle to stick like hell!
Always use a half waffle grip, currently using Renthal. Dont have a real preferance for grip brands, all of the half waffles i used working without a problem. Curieus what you think of the ODI lockon grips!.
ODI Rogue 2 Lock-On Grips. Similar to the pillow tops and no glue or wire required. And the right side comes with the throttle tube so you get a new one every time. Just turn the screw and your done!
+Orange blooded I've had the rogue's I got them because there are big and there will last a longtime I almost put 80 hours on them but I went back to the pillow tops because I can feel my bar's better
Put grips on once we put the glue in the grip like you did along with gluing the T/tube how ever having it already in the grip the glue was pushed straight in the end of the T/tube then through the end hole and ended up gluing the throttle to the bar Just a hot tip not saying your doing it wrong but that is something to be aware of
Hi mate love your videos. Could you do a video on: preparing a mx bike for enduro. As iam staring enduro and not shure what to do with my ktm 150sx 2016. Chears

Awesome tip !!!!!
quick tip put 5 cent coins in the end of your grips it stops the bars poking through the grips when you drop your bike
Micheal Rex did you just glue them on?
That's actually a great idea.. I will try that
What If you want barkbusters
Dang, wish I would’ve known that before I put my new grips on
I was able to force 2 quarters in each grip, came in handy on a long ride to buy gas to get back to the truck
Odi Lock-on grips, no glue, no wires.Simply the best 👍
I had some of those for a while, I run those on my 125.
I run those on my Raptor. Love them. Just got a CRF70 for my kid.
Oh and a quick throttle tube tip. Put a penny or a nickel in the end of your grip when putting it on so nothing can get in the end of the throttle tube. Also gives you a little fall protection.
Thanks for the tips. Seems simple but new to the dirt bike world and like watching before doing so I don't wreck it!
On the throttle side only put glue on the throttle and not inside the grip to avoid glue getting squirted between the throttle and bar

The protaper half waffle clamp-one are the best in my opinion. Super easy install and you don’t have to mess with all the glue junk to keep them on
I use the Pro Taper Pillow Top grips, find them great on my 2 strokes ( SX250 and TE300) for absorbing some of the vibration. Always used Rental medium on Trials bikes.

just a lil quick tip, if u dont have glue, a little bit of hairspray will get the job done
Or clear coat spray paint
Could you use super glue?
@@swagger3766 not sure, may not react to the materials to well
@@swagger3766 plus extremely over kill in my opinion
True
i dont even own a dirtbike idk why im here
Because you need to get a dirtbike! 🙋♂️😁👍🇺🇸
It's that time of the night huh?
Because KTMs are wicked is the reason
It's a sign, Get one
You will one day.
Love the video... well done .. going to try the compressed air trick before cutting and since I don't have grip glue will try the hairspray from the bathroom :) Pro Taper Pillow Top Lites for my KTM 500 is what I'm going with..
I like Renthal grips. Pretty cool the rider spot light at the end of the vids.
I just ordered some pro tapers for my KLX 300. Can't wait to get them on!
7:55 You put glue inside the end of the throttle grip.. what do you think will happen when it sets on the throttle lol? Pro Grip 788 triple density are my favorite so far
Nooooo please don’t cut your old grips off if they are still good, use compressed air and blow them off!
How the heck do you get grips off with compressed air? That's a new on on me!
Jimmy James literally start blowing compressed air in it from the insert part after spraying it down with some degreaser
can you please do a video on suspension tuning?
I usually spray brake clean or carb cleaner on the bar, slide the grip on, and it makes the rubber sticky and soft until it dries. I find the glue doesn't get enough air and it never seems to dry properly.

you should do a video on your maintenance routine after each ride
I use the half waffle too very comfy. Great video too
I like using Methyl Ethyl Ketone or MEK to clean the surface after sanding, the stuff dissolves the excess glue and rubber that might be left from the old grip
Quality video and I like the new rider spotlight, great idea.
Hair spray is what I use for my dirt bike, the wife’s quad, and my street bike. Slippery when you put it on, dries quickly and stays in place. Never heard of anyone using paint. That’s new.

Kyle do you have any plans to do any type of hair scrambles or any racing like that in your future?
I'm surprised this video is 8 years old. Nice high quality
Kyle, you should try Spider grips! I've had mine on for 5 years and they are still like new.
pro grip 801 has been my go to grip for the last few years , 80 hours one set which i think is real decent
I use pro taper; but I like to add a bit of stickiness to my grips (literally) I don't know if anyone has tried it but sticky grips are the best especially if you live in Hawaii like me they make great for trail usage
Love your channel and energy man, ur the best!!
I shoot air with an air compressor as I put on the grip. Old trick a mechanic showed me. Been doing it for past 10 years, no need for glue :)

Ps replace that broken front brake lever !
Pro taper pillow tops glued and wired.. I know... overkill but that's how I do it.
That's how I do it too. Better safe than sorry
I love the pro tapper pillow tops grips
1080P!!! How could you!!

I like the scott diamond mx grips on my 450.
The pillow top I run on my wr250r as I found the bars had a high frequency vibration that would numb my hands. For strictly off road I like the half waffle like you put on your Ktm.
Another great video Kyle, I use half waffle pro taper grips I like the feel they give.
I like those, Pretty decent grips
I've only used stock grips and Scott waffle grips the scotts are rreally nice feeling I think and easier for longer riding but I've only had them and stock
I use hairspray for grip-glue/lube. To get grips off- use a compressed air nozzle just under the grip has grips off in 3 seconds.
hairspray works really well to keep the grips on and spin free
i just clean up the bars, put about 10 zip ties in the grip, slide it into position, pull out the zip ties and your good to go. no glue needed, no dry time :) and my personal favorite has always been the scott full waffle grips
Cool tip using zip ties.
thanks buddy. and great video you got here
Steven Karren use metal safety wire, it strong, secure, and looks more flush than zip ties
Captain Comical he is talking about using zip ties to get his grips on not to use them as a replacement of wire.
yes, that exactly
Hairspray works great to slide grips on and never moves when dry.
Pro taper Pillow tops, I don't even glue mine, I probably should change them though I have been running them for probably five years or so
Good Stuff,,, Thankyou for your video.
I have pro taper pillow top on and I like them so I’m just replacing them
Renthal Kevlars. Great grip traction and they last forever.
yea and they don't give blisters like the protaper pillow tops
I used hairspray last time I replaced my grips. Worked good
Does your hair typically get messy when you install new grips?
ppod450 so messy
Some good tips in there!
I use pro taper pillow lites you get a little better feel on the grips
what is your opinion for 50cc enduro mopeds?
Good shit!
Pro Taper handlebars and grips for life
i do the boiling water trick to get my grips on, i actually used a gas heat gun on my last set which worked really well
Do you ever use safety wire? I always have but maybe it is not needed.
Have you heard of the Pillow Top Lite? It really is a great alternative to the normal PT
that's what I use
I currently am riding the ODI emig V2 lock ons
i use renthal kevalar half waffle grips there amazing
TheRealVerify they’re*
Country_Kid_Productions sir
Can you do a video on how to clean a throttle assembly
Just installed some protaper pillow tops. I have been running the half waffle grips and I'm not really a fan.
Love your videos keep it up
i got some renthal grips havent ptu them on yet i got the firm an i think i may swap them for a softer grip
The easiest way is to poke a small hole in the butt of the handle and use an air compressor with a needle attachment in it, and it slides right off and on. this show about ancient Egypt got me fired up to buy new grips for my Yamaha WR250R
I needed grips for like 3 years now. They were half gone all ripped up i dont use gloves so i dont notice really. Anyway went to put them on was dighting to fit it on never noticed they were different sizes
Thanks Kyle!
Awesome videos! I’m entered on the bike giveaway 🤞🏻
If u put a left over pice of graphic over the hole of the throttle body so u do not get glue and spray paint in your Assembly.
I like Scott grips
I like torc 1 racing diamond grips they have good feel
Thanks for the tips!
This was very helpful
I like spidergrips, they are soft but still they hold for a long time
running odi lock on grips on my kx450 and all I do is trail ride and they are great
the easiest way to get to grips to slide on and stay put (and instantly, perfect if you wanna ride at once) is to wrap some sticky hockey tape (the one you wrap around the blade) on the bar where the handles will be, then poore some gasoline into the handle and splash it around in there.. spill out the gasoline and put it on the bar.. the gasoline evaporates quickly and makes the handle to stick like hell!

Curieus what you think of the ODI lockon grips!.
I like the ODI grips. I have used them on the both of the XC-F's I've been testing this year.
ODI for the win.
Just bough locking grips on my 200EXC. Like the security, but the grips have NO padding at all. I don’t mind though.
ODI Rogue 2 Lock-On Grips. Similar to the pillow tops and no glue or wire required. And the right side comes with the throttle tube so you get a new one every time. Just turn the screw and your done!
Odi is the only grip I will ever run anymore
+Orange blooded a friend of mine runs their rogue. He loves them and I'm thinking about giving them a try
+Orange blooded I've had the rogue's I got them because there are big and there will last a longtime I almost put 80 hours on them but I went back to the pillow tops because I can feel my bar's better

Just a hot tip not saying your doing it wrong but that is something to be aware of
ODI locking are the best for me, no glue easy to put on, and take off
I've had good luck with the ODI lock on grips. No glue or cleanup required!
Yeah, they are pretty nice.
Hey, where did you get those pants? Brand and style? Thanks!
I like the pillow tops, hairspray can work well instead of glue or paint aswell
What glue will you recommend?
How to fix gummed up throttle once new grip is installed?
Hi mate love your videos. Could you do a video on: preparing a mx bike for enduro. As iam staring enduro and not shure what to do with my ktm 150sx 2016. Chears
give it to meeee
ill trade my klx140
On my bike the thing that connects to the throttle is broken can I fix this
What’s the thing on the front of the grips?
Cool vid. I've got to do this myself.
What kind of glue did you use
Yo yo yo I done fucked up and bought dirt bike grips for my quad will I be fine or do I need to buy another set of grips
Alright my tip is don’t use paint when the paint dries it tears the grip in little spots making the grip not last long.
How can I remove the grip glue?
Scott grips are pretty good
This video help me so much thanks
