- In this video I explain the Positional Play feature, the roles that are affected and use 4 tactics actually to show you how new partnerships can form. I also replicate Ange Postecoglou's system with Tottenham Hotspur, Pep Guardiola's system with Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp's system with Liverpool.
The video also has a 442 that transforms into the Brazilian Box and back into a 442 using the positional play feature for FM24.

4:28 More people should use the winger on attack. He's perfect for when you need someone to carry the ball inside the box, but you don't want him immediately cutting in, denying the central attackers their space. I've got a 4-2-3-1 with a poacher, who's in heavy need of fast leg service all around him, especially during transitional play and the wingers on attack, and shadow striker, provide it. Though with a forward who will move into channels away from onrushing IW/IF, you don't have to care about that. The wingers before cutting in will leave space for the Shadow Striker to attack the half spaces, while the Poacher's pinning the CBs, not getting in anyone's way and waiting for his chance to come. If the Poacher can't shoot, any of the three can over/underlap him with a run.

Great video! The positional play works fantastic. I noticed the same with wingers. It creates space for my CM/Mez. But what if I want my winger of IF to score a lot of goals. How would you set up a 433 ?
Great post, as always! I'm not yet convinced about Robertson's role. He is unlikely to make any runners behind Diaz as an IFB. As a winger, can Salah even get into zones where he can finish?

What would you say on what attacking shapes in FM24 work? For me so far I only got tactics working if they end up in some kind of 2-3-5 shape.

I wonder if you or anyone here has noticed much of the following two bugbears of mine about FM23, since I will not be able to buy this game until November 1st;
1. Central defenders losing the most match condition, often meaning they are the first to get tired and required substituting, which does not seem to me to be realistic, particularly given all the gegenpressing most of us like to do. Has this been addressed in any way?
2.Players constantly getting offside, particularly those who are trying to break the offside line due to a trait, or those playing as an advanced forward. I realise that those with higher attributes in Positioning are less prone to getting caught, but I can't help feeling like it happens a mite to often in FM23, particularly the disallowed goals due to being offside, which are always finished like Haaland by the way, as opposed to when your forward is NOT offside and they couldn't hit a barn door. Does this seem any different this year?

Also Wingers in FM24 don't run wide with the ball as default anymore.

I love using wingers because of the width they give me...but thy don't cut inside even if I put their preferred foot on the opposite wing
@@kingdaniel1956depends. you can set for them to cut in with the ball or to run wide. it’s just that they don’t have run wide with ball as a default instruction

@@kingdaniel1956Yes, the instructions have been changed so you can choose wingers that can now be told to cut inside.
This is perfect for Spurs as it’s closer to how Ange sets up, both IW and IF don’t really feel right in terms of freeing up the channels as Ange’s setup is designed to do.

Really need that added for IWBs and then we’d be able to properly replicate Spurs’ setup.
Ideally they’d change IWB auto to allow them to go either way and also be able to remove the cross less often option too.

My current (and lasting for years) issue with "tactics" is you can no way set up a "third-man pass" or "diagonal passing/ladera" tactical setup, you set the positional play and remaining tactical build-up heavily depends on algorithm. I can not "De Zerbi" it out, or "Diniz" my team up, i have to struggle with preset positional play to be able to do something similar. Relationism is not represented in the game as much.
I would like to ask that, at City tactic you used w-at and mez-at. Does this cause a problem, I mean both on attack duty and running forward, none of them holding and bringing the ball. Also ifb-defense stays really deep.
IFB does not stay very deep. He does overlap

How do we create diamond shapes now because almost all the CM roles are moving into the AMC positions.
I'm having the same problem this year, I took Bayer Leverkusen as my beta save, and they don't have wingers so I'm struggling. Looks like diamond formations are not working, at least I can't. Trying using xabi alonso tactic with 2 CD and 1 WCB, and doesn't work aswell. Looks like for now, using Wingers with positional play is too strong!

You always prefer a DMs in a 433. Why?
Not really depends on what I am doing overall for the tactic. In most instances when I pick a dm it’s because I want a general role sitting behind either a creative/attacking pair.
Slightly disagree about your Spurs recreation.
Yes CM/A is effective as I’ve tried it myself but find really Maddison is a RPM when you watch him. And it works in FM too.
Also Anges wide men hug the line to create space in the channels, as the Winger role has been changed in 24 we can now have them as wingers with
either instructions to cut inside or better still do either inside or wide. They definitely are not inside forwards,

I'm not a fan of inverted wingbacks/fullbacks. I'm more old school in that I prefer wingbacks creating the width 😎

Pep has shown that wingers creating the width with fullbacks filling the spaces left behind by other players moving forward is the way to go, at least for now; Football tactics are fluid in their evolution.
I actually think we have already seen the response to the all-powerful 433 employed by most of today's top clubs in the 3412 with wide centre backs acting almost like old-school fullbacks.
We will see this shape continue to be refined, and ultimately some new manager will come along who adds the final touch to this shape and go on an absolute tear like Guardiola did 10 years ago, and then the Guardiolas and the Klopps of the world will end up looking like Mourinho does now, an old master who has fallen somewhat of a half step behind.
This continual reinvention of tactics will develop far enough that, perhaps 30 or 50 years from now we will go all the way back to some variation of the Arrigo Sacchi-style, two banks of 4, compact 442 shape that so bored us all to tears in the early to mid 90s.
n6808 Cryuff was also inverting his fullbacks in midfield so idk how much of a "tactical innovation" this is if has been done before.
