Sega Genesis Model 1 High Definition vs Non HD Part 1

- Sorry my camera keeps limiting my video length and breaking it up and I haven't figured out how to piece the videos together. In this video I go over some of the differences between the two definitive versions of the model 1 leaving out the version differences between motherboards. I do not have all of the motherboard versions to do a comparison video. This was filmed on the Panasonic g5 at a medium zoom length with the standard kit lens. (12-42mm)
*This is an early video I made- I am keeping it the same and hope to one day re-do it. Apologies for the quality.

Personally I think the model 1 Genesis is the best looking Genesis.

Most interesting design. Up there with the Atari Jaguar. Most other things are boxes. Model 2s I now think look pretty cool too though.

Beg to differ on this the guy does not really seem knowledgeable about the system. It's like he did not do his homework before he made this video.
Not all Sega Genesis' missing the 'High Definition Graphics' text are 'stinkers'. The motherboard variations VA6.5, and VA6.8 do not have the HDG text, but still have the Yamaha YM2612 sound chip with the same high quality of sound as the earlier models. Only the VA7 motherboard variant is the 'stinker' because it has a ASIC Yamaha YM3438 sound chip.
Mine is missing the HDG text but it has the Yamaha YM2612 chip.

I have the one in the middle! That's exactly how my cord outlets are on my Genesis. Far as the other ones , never knew Sega made other versions.

There's another version of the model 1 Sega Genesis that was released between the High Definition Graphics and pre Model 2 design, it looks identical to the High Definition graphics one but it doesn't say that also the EXT port is missing but the spot is still there just a blank spot.

Most of you guys have problems with proper focus. Try to relax and slow down the pace of your lives:) The presentation is good and the subject very interesting. I appreciate it when videos are a bit slower, very well done in my opinion. The comments are just mean.
Mine was the original blue box Core System with the HDG one. It seems rare as I cant find them these days hardly and when I do see them they want way too much. Wish Id never sold my Genesis and SNES.

Yes, better is the hdg, this console have the real Yamaha sound chip and the audio is better than others, but have a sega console better than these is the sega hdg megadrive tectoy, this have the yamaha chip and pal M is a up grade of ntsc with 60hz, better image of pal and faster like ntsc

I did learn a thing or two but man you really need to fast forward all that unscrewing. could be spending a lot more time comparing differences rather than forcing your viewers to skip 90% of the video just to get to the actual dissection

Hi-Def models can be Japan, Taiwan, or China.
Well, there are only that many versions of you include Japan-only Mega Drive. There aren’t strictly 7 versions of the “Genesis” model 1.

I have the early 1992 model aka the stinker as ppl put it, but it's ok! And I have a Christmas of 1992 edition new compact design model 2 with sonic 2 and that one works better and takes up less space.
The non high def version you got there is known as the stinker.
He's missing the model released without the EXT port but the ports are still in the same position even the solder points for the EXT port are still in tact.
I have a HD made in Japan white label. Maybe taiwains use silver tags and anodized screws
There are other versions, Its more of a date or build time thing!
Non HDG VA6-VA6.8 have good audio

RedRanger2001 there were some models that were released in between the two shown it's basically almost identical to the high definition Graphics model just without the EXT port.
Yes it's an early to mid 1992 model aka the VA7 and was the crossbar that same year between that one and the new compact design aka model 2 casing. Far as video and sound they're basically identical meaning both the 92 models. The earlier 1990 -91 High Definition Graphics systems were the most superior. Most of the VA7s were Walmart edition core units sold off alongside the Sonic 2 new design Sega Genesis the same holiday season of 1992. I'd personally say the holidays of 1992 up to 1994 was when the Genesis sold best! Especially with that pack in Sonic 2 game

Hd sucks for sega because sega uses the cable to get transparent not boxes or fencing.

En mi opinion todas las Mega Drive modelo 1 son buenas excepto la VA7 que en mi opinion no merecen la pena porque suenan igual de mal que las MD 2 y para eso directamente me compro una MD2
yeah i think latin america mexico canada and usa including japan has NTSC 60 hertz of course. the rest of europe or austrilia has pal 50 hertz i think it was update to 60 hertz i think.
Latin America has 60 Hz but PAL right?
I have one that doesn't say "High Definition Graphics" but DOES have a ext port. What does that mean?

You got the VA6 version.
The ones without the EXT port is either the VA6.5 or the VA6.8.
So how do you use the expansion port?
It was originally going to be used for the mega modem, an online add-on (only released in japan)
but did not make to the U.S or Europe. since it didn't make it to other regions the port was removed in later revisions. basically you cant use the expansion port.
i was luck i got the Japan one but the Taiwan one took care of something else. the high definition high resolution and high grade modes.
ok you can modified to try to get a good sound or something. we will try to let them know.
