Yeah kinda the same here, except with bass. Some songs that Nikolai plays are very quite simple and really easy for a beginner, and as you work your way up, learning songs like Juicebox, god that song is so fun.

'Is This It' is the best album I know. EVERY song on it is worth listening to, down to the last second. I don't usually like listening to albums generally because for an artist there's about three good songs on average in an album while everything else is mediocre. But I love this album. It's my favorite.
I'm glad you enjoy it that much. Personally i've always been an album person. I usually just return to those albums where 70% of the album's songs are good, because i like to take the time and listen to the whole thing. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that i used to collect CD's when i was younger. And i got some more patience from listening to those.
You're right. My friend recommended it to me this year and at first I didn't think it was anything special and each song sounded ordinary. But the more I listened, the more I became attached to each song that I ended up liking every single song on that album. I too selectively choose songs from an artist rather than listening to a whole album but every song on ITI has a unique vibe and makes me feel a different way, I love it.
Holy fuck. I fkin relate to this so much. I listen to the whole of is this it atleast once everyday and have been doing so for years. In my opinion, it is one of the perfect rock albums, has everything from good lyrics, to the infamous complex dual guitar parts that compliment each other so well. It's just so raw, complex yet simple - it's fuckin perfect
Absolutely love The Strokes, they took influence from Television and Joy Division in a perfect sense, in which each member of the band plays a different part or a counter melody (I read that Julian Casablancas also studied classical music, which can be why this is also present in The Strokes). The beauty of The Strokes is that they don't sound derivative either (Like Wolfmother), and instead, take a retro sound and put an original twist to it. The Strokes were absolutely needed.
They were needed for sure! I can totally see that. At the same time i find it hard to totally fall in love with their music. Something about it flows straight past me. Some songs i i really love, but i haven't gotten my first full-album crush yet. We'll see. I don't try to expect this to happen though. Expecting things from music is stupid.

Personally, I see Angles as their Abbey Road. It's their best album imo, despite the behind the scenes issues and disjointed process. It was the convergence between the sound they started with and where they were going. It's just fantastic.
To each their own I suppose. I personally find it to be their worst album. If I had to rank them 1. Is this it 2. Room on fire 3. First impressions of earth 4. The new abnormal 5. Comedown machine 6. Angles

Julian is a really talented guy. So much that I followed all his work and managed to like every if his projects, including his solo career and the Voidz
One of the best live bands i have ever seen. Saw them live for Is This It and Room On Fire tours. Fans waited outside the venue, in the cold, for them to come out and sign autographs. Both Julian and Nikolai came out and were super cool. They hung out for at least half an hour talking to fans, signing autographs and taking pics. This was late 2002. Great memories.
I was so surprised when I heard that the Strokes were on a time crunch to make Room on Fire. It's one of my favorite albums by them and it makes me realize just how talented and creative they are. I can't even imagine how good the album would be if they got the couple extra weeks they needed.
Just fyi, the photo at 2:30 is not Julian Casablancas, it's an early photo of the band Moldy Peaches (Adam Green and Kimya Dawson). Adam (and his haircut) bore a passing resemblance to Julian when they were younger. The bands were gaining traction around the same time, and there are plenty of photos from that period of time floating around, of the two of them at parties together, clearly in on the joke of their doppelganger status.
thanks for uploading this video, because this was the first time I had discovered The Strokes and they're my new favourite band. But nothing beats MGMT, but I still love the strokes and the voids so much!
Yeeees, please please do a video on Julian Casablancas! There is so much to him as a person and an artist, and would be awesome to present to your viewers!
I seriously wish they had a lot more time to record ROF. As great as it is, can you imagine what it could have been like if they had just one more month
Thanks finally someone that agrees that they look similar. He popped up in the search for Julian so i never thought it wasn't him. Maybe a younger version of him.
bob shermen I was gonna say that! But I had a bad discussion long ago because of it. Adam looks like the version before rehab, lol. But I have to say, I enjoy so much more Adam's voice and songs, he's someone I comeback to every now and then, and I've been listening to him since I heard "Carolina" and all his work. A great indie folk/rock artist.
I've seen a few of these now and new ones keep popping up in my feed. While I've read loads of books on the Stones, Hendrix and the Doors, among other rock and roll luminaries, I appreciate these looks into the background of newer acts. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! My main focus will always be rock and guitar related music. So i'll keep on doing all kinds of rock music. Everything from the 50s and up until today. I'm glad you appreciate it despite of being so well-read. Cheers from Norway.
There are only 2 good Radiohead albums. This albums are Pablo Honey and The Bends. The rest of the discography is boring, fake and rubbish. Arcade Fire is also boring as fuck. INDIE ROCK MUST DIE.
That was really cool. Been waiting for it. I do feel Is This It was the best debut album of 00s along with The Funeral by Arcade Fire. room on fire was pretty great too but they went downhill from there. All the records following room on fire were decent records though and had atleast 3-4 pretty good songs. I am digging Julian's work apart from strokes and although the voidz don't have a mainstream appeal but I think he is doing something exciting and making record that sound nothing like strokes. And yes do make an in depth video on Julian Cascablancas In the future. Probably my favorite artist post 00s!
[sad sigh]... i love people who say their only 1st two albums were good and it all started to go downhill from there... ahh how typical, have you ever fucking heard Vision Of Division, Electricityscape, Razorblade, Life Is Simple In The Moonligh, Games, 80s Comedown Machine, Call It Fate Call It Karma, One Way Trigger??? i'm glad they added something new with every album but still having one foot inside garage/indie rock sound, the only "weak" album from them would be Angles and only because couple of songs(two kinds of happiness, you're so right, metabolism) that didn't really quite fit them and as the guy said in the video, is this it and room on fire sound quite simplistic, maybe thats the reason why people get into them and stick with it with stubbornness, first impressions of earth have way more complex guitar sound, julians vocal range is also wider, the only downside of the album is that is has a couple of filler songs(fear of sleep, killing lies and probably one more i can't remember now), give other albums another chance i'm sure one day you will realize how incredibly crafted they are
zer0 95 well I never said they were weak albums. I love strokes. They are one of my favorite bands of all time. I do think they are decent albums but definitely not as good as first two(overall) because they have weak songs that sound like filler tracks. Besides bro music is subjective. Don't be an ignorant person when people share their opinion. Be better than that.
Julian has made all the guitar parts and bass lines for their first three records. After their long hiatus and his solo career, when he came back, he avoided participating in the song creating process so the other members could have more control and make more songs. This backfired on chemistry and Valensi was pissed but angles featured more songs by the other members than their previous works
Lol i just imagine Valensi going "shit now we have to do everything ourselves? Fuck this..." Haha. I actually didn't know he did all the guitar and bass parts for those records. Where did you find out about that?
I'm trying to find this old dutch video where they say it explicitly after their UK tour after this is it I think. You can dig around for some early strokes interviews where they mention it.
very well put together video i just wanted to say also that they used to do backing vocals during live performances for other songs during the early periods of the band
they literally just dropped a new album and preformed at a few bernie related events this year aswell as NYE in the city, the strokes live and so does julians so work and second band the voidz
The evolution of Julian Casablancas since 2016 is something I really need to understand, it seems to me that he had a dramatic change of style that it is almost hard to recognize him. Understanding Julian Casablancas should definitely be your next video.
You've got a point there. I did not expect what he's currently doing with The Voidz. Having a hard time getting into it. But some people just LOVE it. I'll see what i can do.
Found this on my recommended and didn't expect anything much, but wow! I'm a big fan of the Strokes and this peaked my interest the second you started speaking! Subscribing now and I look forward to more content!
Thanks for subbing and supporting me :) That means a lot. My question is, why didn't you expect much from this video? And what made you click it anyways? Cheers from Norway.
Lie Likes Music I've found from a lot of Strokes videos that they don't put a lot of research into how they came to be and where they got their start. It's not a good mentality for me to have going into a video honestly, but I'm glad you proved me wrong! Thanks for replying btw! I look forward to more content! =^-^=
Thanks for the green light! I sure will. And yes i really dig that one song from Wavves new album. But much of the other songs are shait. KOTB and AOH are their best albums imo.

Julian's "clean" vocals? His vocals have more distortion than metal songs, seriously.
Hahah some times yes.
In first impresions is when he kind of sounds clean but, at the door surpacess all julian's previous intents of a clean voice by far

lmaoooo wow, btw is your name a growlers reference?
its just a weird coincidence, I've had it as a name on Steam since 2004. the growlers are great though
They look a lot like each other though.
Hahaha I called that too I had to find some one else that new
I hope someone else has already caught this, but Juicebox was on First Impressions, not Room on Fire.
Yes a lot of other people caught that. And again, i'm sorry for making that mistake.
Such a great video! Been a fan since I was a little girl, so this band holds so much sentimental value for me. Don’t stop what you’re doing!
Thank you! That's great. I'm glad this was valuable to you :) And i won't
Definitely need a whole video on the Julian Casablancas dynamic
Waiting for the Julian video :)
Still waiting!
Yeeees, please please do a video on Julian Casablancas! There is so much to him as a person and an artist, and would be awesome to present to your viewers!
Subscribed in hopes of that video coming up ^^
I won't disappoint you.
@@LieLikesMusic It's been two years man. Haven't seen one yet. Lmao.
I seriously wish they had a lot more time to record ROF. As great as it is, can you imagine what it could have been like if they had just one more month
i love the strokes
Do interpol
That was a picture of Adam green hahahahahahhahaah
Yeah, I was wondering why he showed that picture while talking about Julian being in love, lol.
Matias to be fair they look very very similar
Thanks finally someone that agrees that they look similar. He popped up
in the search for Julian so i never thought it wasn't him. Maybe a younger
version of him.
bob shermen I was gonna say that!
Matias he's so amazing
YES WE NEED A VID ON JULIAN CASABLANCAS
Alright, thanks for your feedback ;)
julian screaming in reptilia is what i live for.
Yes a video on Julian, great video!! +1 subscriber from Barcelona, Spain. They played here 3 years ago
Man i would've loved to see them live too sometime. Thanks for subbing! High five from Norway :)
I would absolutely love a video about Julian!
Think i would love that too. Or just a video about the Voidz. I like their music more than The Strokes.
2:29 This is Adam Green, not Julian Casablancas
"understanding the strokes" then he says juicebox was on Room on Fire. k.
Peter Rudolph my thoughts exactly
@@blackefron also played** reptilia when talking about this is it
OF COURSE we want one about Julian :D
I've seen a few of these now and new ones keep popping up in my feed. While I've read loads of books on the Stones, Hendrix and the Doors, among other rock and roll luminaries, I appreciate these looks into the background of newer acts. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! My main focus will always be rock and guitar related music. So i'll keep on doing all kinds
of rock music. Everything from the 50s and up until today. I'm glad you appreciate it despite of being so well-read.
Cheers from Norway.
Yes, please do Julian Casablancas! He definitely needs his own video!
I find it interesting how this guy seems to pronounce 'G's the exact opposite way they are meant to be in almost every circumstance.
It's time for Radiohead or Arcade fire!🤘
Yeah please!
Arcade fire pleeeeeAAASEE
radiohead4sure
There are only 2 good Radiohead albums. This albums are Pablo Honey and The Bends. The rest of the discography is boring, fake and rubbish. Arcade Fire is also boring as fuck. INDIE ROCK MUST DIE.
Aggressive fuck off
Thanks so much, such an amazing video to watch, really well done!!!🤟🏻
Yes do one on Julian!!!
The Smashing Pumpkins
Albert should also get a video, he has a solo career which lives up to his work with The Strokes.
Armordillo Gamer no it dosent
Shut up kid, keep making shit rap song to garageband stock music.
Yours to keep is one of my favorite albums straight up
That was really cool.
[sad sigh]... i love people who say their only 1st two albums were good and it all started to go downhill from there... ahh how typical, have you ever fucking heard Vision Of Division, Electricityscape, Razorblade, Life Is Simple In The Moonligh, Games, 80s Comedown Machine, Call It Fate Call It Karma, One Way Trigger??? i'm glad they added something new with every album but still having one foot inside garage/indie rock sound, the only "weak" album from them would be Angles and only because couple of songs(two kinds of happiness, you're so right, metabolism) that didn't really quite fit them
and as the guy said in the video, is this it and room on fire sound quite simplistic, maybe thats the reason why people get into them and stick with it with stubbornness, first impressions of earth have way more complex guitar sound, julians vocal range is also wider, the only downside of the album is that is has a couple of filler songs(fear of sleep, killing lies and probably one more i can't remember now), give other albums another chance i'm sure one day you will realize how incredibly crafted they are
zer0 95 well I never said they were weak albums. I love strokes. They are one of my favorite bands of all time. I do think they are decent albums but definitely not as good as first two(overall) because they have weak songs that sound like filler tracks. Besides bro music is subjective. Don't be an ignorant person when people share their opinion. Be better than that.
Jules Gilmour Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not is one of the best, if not the best album of the 00s
Arutzuki yup..it is
Julian has made all the guitar parts and bass lines for their first three records.
You can dig around for some early strokes interviews where they mention it.
very well put together video
i just wanted to say also that they used to do backing vocals during live performances for other songs during the early periods of the band
Juicebox isnt on room on fire..
Yes Julian vid please!!! cheers
Damn, I miss them.
they literally just dropped a new album and preformed at a few bernie related events this year aswell as NYE in the city, the strokes live and so does julians so work and second band the voidz
My question is, why didn't you expect much from
this video? And what made you click it anyways? Cheers from Norway.
Lie Likes Music I've found from a lot of Strokes videos that they don't put a lot of research into how they came to be and where they got their start. It's not a good mentality for me to have going into a video honestly, but I'm glad you proved me wrong! Thanks for replying btw! I look forward to more content! =^-^=
8:35 Wavvvves - Milion Enemies
although there are few mistakes, great sumerup of the band's history, keep on making videos man!
Thanks for the green light! I sure will. And yes i really dig that one song from Wavves new album.
But much of the other songs are shait. KOTB and AOH are their best albums imo.
I miss old wavvvvves 😤
Video on Julian would be great! Awesome Vid!
thanks friend. It's coming up sometime down the road.
@5:19 You showed Juicebox as if was from Room on Fire but it is from First Impressions of Earth
Yes sorry bout that.
I was shoked you didn't mention the new abnormal and the I noticed the video's release date lol
i love this band so much
That's lame
I love how u refer to them as ‘were’ when they just made the best rock album this yeat
yeeeaatttttt
"I just wanted to be one of The Strokes..."
El EMRXY now look at the mess you made me make. I think it says that I’m not sure I don’t really listen to star treatment
6:08 it’s Nick Valensi on a mellotron, not samples
I love every strokes album, everything Julian has done for music is nothing short of genius. The voidz are fantastic as well
I think The Voidz are way better than The Strokes honestly. Much more free and inventive type of music.
Lie Likes Music I saw the voidz live about a week ago and I had a fantastic time they are great performers
Just now getting into the Strokes. Fancy seeing you on my journey haha
