He sounds like the ex who wants to get back together. When you're married to someone else. The ex who lost their virginity to you. Anyway he's the sweetest man on earth and this episode is just so beautiful and sweet. I'll say it again: sweet
Gordon is the type of guy to pressure you to take drugs not because he wants to see you act crazy but because he wants to help you expand your mind to be on his level. Basically, he seems like the best trip sitter a person could ever wish to have lol
“I don’t have any more muscles. I gotta use my whole body.” - Poor Fab! 😅😂 You could tell from their reactions that it was really Jules who’s been hounding Fab to hit those drums harder. 😂🤣
I know I'm 3 years late to this but there is a video of Julian screaming and raging in live performances, and on a Letterman show you can see him mouth "drum harder you pussy" or something to that effect. He's a genius but the drawback is that he's also a perfectionist
You can tell Gordon really is the father figure of the group. It's really refreshing to see they haven't gotten to big for their boots and still have such a good relationship with the guy who helped break their sound. Honestly if it wasn't for Gordon who knows what The Strokes would have sounded like...
17:48 Guess Fab confirmed there's another record in the works. Great to here after so many people being worried "Ode to the Mets" was supposed to be a farewell to the band.
These guys were so quiet and awkward at interviews 15 years ago, and now they are chill dudes having their own podcast! Well that is what I call a progress!
Ikr i think part of it is because theyre not in control in interviews, this is mainly a conversation between friends. Its still progress though, because i dont think they would want to open up about the past as relax as this 5 years ago.
People also forget that they were in their early twenties when they were this huge sensation. Now they're mature adults and probably a lot more comfortable in their own skin
Imo young Julian was super comfortable and interesting from the get go, theres an interview i think he did right before they started becoming super known and he was genuinely extroverted and engaging there it seemed like another human being completely
Seeing the strokes reunite with Gordon Raphael is touching. I remember when i first heard "is this it". I thought the disc was broken because of the unusual sound. After giving it a second chance, it became one of my favorite records ever. Back than it was just changing my view on music. This record was kicking alternative and new rock into the grave just as "nevermind" did with hard rock. Pure history! So, the 25-year-mark is now almost insight, it is the time for another strokes/raphael project :) Seeing the guys talk made me realize, that i feel like "this is the band i always wanted to be in", and I'm not the only one ;) . At least i had my chance having a production with Gordon in 2007 :)
The title would be "5guys talking about things they know nothing about. Meet 1 guy who just wanted to be 1 of 5guys talking about things they know nothing about."
I know it doesn’t really matter but I thought Colin only had one kid with Scarlett, yet he’s talking about walking with his daughter and meeting Fab? Weird.
wow this is literally everything I expected to get from the band, some form of conversation between them in which I get to bond even more with what they represent to me. Funny how its so fulfulling to simply hear stories and infos we never got from these guys, even tho they've influenced a big part in our lives. can't wait for the next episode
I think it’s really amazing looking back and watching these videos with them talking with their producers. I remember watching a few different videos a handful of years ago. (Around the 4:10 mark when Fab’s talking about having to hit the drums harder, I remember a video where Fab mentioned the entire band looking back at him during rehearsals for The Modern Age and basically were like “if you’re gonna be the drummer, at least try to hit the drums” or something to that effect 😂) and I remember watching a mini documentary talking about the beginnings of The Strokes, and I remember feeling kinda sad watching it cause it’d sounded like post-Room on Fire, the band and Gordon kinda drifted apart, and I remember him saying he’d like listened to only a little bit of Angles, maybe seen them once live since, and it was just kinda melancholic. Really happy to see they got him on this show and seeing them laugh and talk
This was THE BEST episode, I felt so close to you guys, I really had fun listening to these stories, moments, also the 2 guests were so nice!! I love you so much! Thanks for that.
It is interesting to note that Gordon Raphael has produced an album by Fobia, a legendary Mexican band. And in this video they mention how it would be cool if the strokes played a series of concerts where the would play all their albums in their entirety. Each night a different album. The funny thing is that, Fobia has already done this in 2012.
Hi, I'm from Malaysia. I really love this band from every aspect, their song, their melody, their character , their vibes and many more. I've heard their song since I was 10 around 2003. I hope this band will always rock on and their friendship will last forever.. Hope they will come to Malaysia later..
I think this was the best until now! Amazing to hear stories about your past, dudes. I first heard your music when I was seventeen, in high school. Now I'm almost 23 and finishing college. Lots of love from Brazil.
That was a great story! Shit, can you imagine if Is this it? was recorded by a different producer? I cant. The Strokes and Gordon were the perfect match.
It's so crazy how my experience with the strokes is similar to Colin's in that they've always kinda come around for important shifts in my life, they're kind of my favorite band by default lol but I appreciate everything they make ❤️
Nostalgic Waves Odd as it may sound I sent the note “ Find a home. Find a dog. Settle down. Out of town. Find a dream. Shut it down.” as a note to Jules account on You Tube before his.first child was born when it was possible to send private messages on You Tube. After writing it I added that I just gifted him a song. Jules & Albert are listed as co-authors so the rest is a mystery to me “you asked me to stay” . Cross my heart on this. It was unsolicited life advice about sobriety & fatherhood. Sometimes you have to shut it down, the party that is. Imagine my shock and happiness when it appeared on Comedown Machine. This is my first time sharing this info outside close friends. It’s so personal to me even if they don’t recall where the words came from. I do. 🌹
18:00-19:00 colin asks some great questions. I would love to see each album played every night in a residency like setting. Jules and everyone else needs to know we wanna hear the new abnormal live!!
fucking legends these guys inspired me at 10-11 years old to pursue music. im 22 now still not making money off of it but i love it more than anything.
This episode was hilarious. So great to hear them telling funny stories about the old days. Gordon just seems so nice. They chose well. The Transpandapons were definitely my favorite as a kid
13:14 Julian throws a jab at Nick... 14:17-14:25 Nick gets revenge on Julian. Implies that he is privileged and doesn't have to do much at the end of the show. 14:26-14:28 Julian responds with a Narcissistic injury! "How dare you!" is an indication of an "injury" to his Ego. I can watch them all day long and get some insight into their interactions. Although i do notice Nikolai tends to be very withdrawn and doesn't add much but random things.
Wow I can't believe how much that story about Julian's reaction to Gordon not saying he was a better producer reminds me of Julian's dad. It's how I would imagine a tough businessman to react and I never thought of Julian that way.
It really isn't 1 person us it, or 2, if any 1 of those ppl weren't there, it would not have come together. And I love how Julian said I love you. And I love how despite making bad decisions from anxiety I need to do this to be a big hit, the tao of good energy ultimately came through.

Gordon sounds like a proud parent when he talks about The Strokes, lol
He created a master piece 😤

Fab and Julian's voices are so therapeutic
ESPECIALLY fab’s
I love Gordon's vibe. Seem like you can really feel confortable around him in a creating process
Mate Amargo he seems like such a chill, nice guy.
Albert Hammond Jr He is Very Nice guy
I’ve talked to Gordon before! He’s super friendly and humble.

Fab is The heart and soul of this "mini serie" and the band, is just such a nice guy and looks pretty humble and funny.
He’s hecka funny.
They all have such great chemistry. All of them in the studio with eachother making music would be quite an experience to be involved in
Fab has the real brazilian's soul ❤️🇧🇷
yeah really hope Fab revives his side project Little Joy with Rodrigo Amarante, love that band
He's our Little Joy 😉
"The more I don't play it well, the more I don't play it well." LMAO
“I don’t have any more muscles. I gotta use my whole body.” - Poor Fab! 😅😂
You could tell from their reactions that it was really Jules who’s been hounding Fab to hit those drums harder. 😂🤣
He even put his finger up like he’s guilty haha.
No wonder Alex from The Voidz always looks like he's eating that shit up lmfao

Fab: No its good. It's just scoliosis for life 😂

This is the best episode hands down
Yup. Gordon was a really good guest and seems like a really nice dude.

Colin Jost out here living the best life on SNL, dating Scarlett J and being best friends with the fucking Strokes
Imagine the places he'd go if he had talent!

Albert’s smile illuminates my heart and soul
I really liked this episode.. Their friendship is what keeps them going. Hopefully they'll carry on like that for a long time.
Well 16:20 explains why you all chose a mellow version of One Way Trigger (without drums) for the encore performance at The Forum 😂
funny, i was just thinking about the strokes ...actually getting very emotional about "At The Door"
Gordon is such a sweetheart! I'm loving this guests format, keep it up guys.
Gordon is such a sweetheart ❤️
