INFO: Arctic Monkeys is a band that earned their fame before they even released their first album. They managed to experiment with heavy garage rock, pop-rock, punk and more while still keeping their sound congruent across their five albums. They’ve also stayed incredibly relevant in mainstream music despite of the fall in rock music’s popularity.

PLEASE DO SARLO AKROBATA PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU THEY ARE YUGOSLAVNIAN BAND IM FROM YUGOSLAVIA PLEASE .
Do Elliott Smith next, the epitome of any composer/writer/singer.
don't forget you have to do ROBERT JOHNSON!!! (good video)
PJ Harvey???
I love how this has '505k' views.
I love that too ;)
now it's 666k.

I’m going back to 505
@@Die4girl if it’s a seven hour flight or a forty five minute drive.
I always thought that the name AM meant "After Midnight", because alot of the songs tell stories that usually happened at that time.
That can also be a valid way of interpreting it.
I figured it was referring to the radio frequency band, especially given the image of waves on the cover. AM, FM, MW, etc... I was at school with Matt and Alex for 10 years too (High Green and Stocky), your last sentence in this video referring to them being at the peak of rock music for two decades made me feel very old :'(
dan_tm sweet are you still in touch with them?
@@dan_ I think you're sort of right but it's the other way around, they chose AM to be the title after stealing it from VU and then realised that has musical connotations thus the album cover.
@@-.-5572 Nah, but I remember one of my friends ended up roadying with them and Oasis when they toured together years ago. Lucky git!
“All the weekend rockstars are in the toilets practicing their lines” is a reference to the ever increasing coke usage in the UK
Is that sarcastic or not?
@@user-zs4jm8th3u no its true
Well, also musicians literally practice in the toilets before going on stage when it's a festival and there are many bands and yours is not famous your band has not a private changing room in which you can practice. I heard Muse talking about it in interviews, remembering the old times. I think Matt Bellamy wrote a line about it in a song too and they do not take drugs you know (a part from mushrooms). Matt Bellamy shared an apartment with a drug dealer and he decided their band would have never taken drugs like cocaine since he saw the destructive effects it has, so the line could be literally about bands practicing in toilets.
ncmsc n or, it's a double entendre lol on the practicing before performance and the drug addiction associated with musicians
@robert mugabe These guys have to get into "rockstar" mode and they're doing what they think rockstars do, "practicing" plus the double-entendre. It's one of my favorite young-Alex lyrics.
Knee socks was a masterpiece, that whole Hip Hop indie vocal breakdown near the end gives me goosebumps to this day,I have a feeling AM will take decades to age,it has a timeless sound to it
There is something very special to it yes. I think it's the simplicity of the beats and melodies that does it.
And yes i love Knee Socks too. Thanks for sharing man.
Second favourite song of theirs, first being R u mine?.
R U MINE ? Is brilliant that is the song that started the album off as well, id put that in my top 3 Do I wanna know as mainstream as it is has a beautiful desert rock vibe but is accompanied by Hip Hop beats, again so unique thats my number 2 not sure what to make of the new album, while areas are really good its quite dreary in places and turners vocals get lost in the chaos some really good songs though
Absolutely
Especially the bridge (after the second drop) which continues the melody, though shifting it slightly
I feel like Alex Turner should write the theme Music for the next Bond Movie...Should be great. Do not know why I thought of that, but hey.
He could probably do that.
My mistakes were made for you from the Last Shadow Puppets really sounds like a James Bond theme music
Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino shows some potential for bond music, at least it has this vibe to it
I love Alex Turner more more everyday more, he's the one, he's love, joy, peace for universe and everything for all of us, thanks very much
And I love Nick, Jamie, Matt too💜💟
Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino is dope for people who actually take time to have an active listening.
I'm sure that's the case for a lot of people :)
I agree, I admit four out of five is good but the rest of the album isn't doing it for me like favourite worst nightmare or am. Maybe I just haven't had a good enough listen as a whole.
I love that album
I feel it’s more incidental music to Turner’s poetry. Beautiful is what that album is
@@justOneOllie same i dont like their most recent album their other stuff is brilliant
Here we are five years later and The Car has arrived. I love how their music is constantly changing. We never get the same thing twice.
I agree so much, whatever their next album is, will be a surprise, great comment!
Bit of a shame though I’d love another favourite worst nightmare
I’m just putting this out there, but...
Alex Turner has some good hair ngl
Lmao this is so random I love it😂
Ara_Cely. Torres yeses
Nice profile pic :)
frr
He does and Matt is one of my favorite drummer in the last 20 years
I literally never realized the soundwave on AM said AM in the middle. My mind is fucking blown.
Hahaha, i had the same realization some time back.
Holy shit, you made me realize it just now :0
it happened to me too a while ago
i’m ur 505th like ;)
Wow , just realized that!
I think I may one of the few people who actually enjoys all of their music, wether it's their old or new music
Nope me aswell
I think a lot of ppl do tbh
Any of their songs are great tbh
i’m with you
mostly their old shit gets me bumping man
I was about to start air drumming after that opening line of R U Mine at the start of the video and it cut off and i've never been more disappointed in my life
Something stupid I thought I was the only one..
I ALWAYS DO THIS! i thought i was the only one!
Thank god i wasnt the only one. it like hurt my soul.
ME TOO OMG SAME WITH SINGING EVERY AM SONG
Omg DUDE SAME😂😭
Arctic Monkeys is just about a guy who wants to be part of the Strokes.
To be fair, he ALSO just wanted to be one of those ghosts.
@@TheSnurtBurglar Yeah I agree with you.

Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino really felt quite boring, but I really started digging the single Four Out Of Five and as I listened to it again, I liked it more and more, so I did that with the album as well and boy it is amazing
Some albums grow on you the more you listen. And i guess TBHAC was a great example of that for you.
Maybe it is for me as well. I just haven't invested that much time in it yet tbh.
True, with Bastille's Wild World for example, I really was digging it the first time I listened, with The Neighbourhood's self-titled album I started liking it only after the 3rd or 4th time...
I think golden trunks and tranquility base are quite good songs too
same same same!
That's exactly what happened with me
unpopular opinion: TBHC is a really good album because even though it’s a different style it sounds really nice
Hell yeah
SolelyForCommentingStuff Musically speaking, it's their best album so far. I love how some songs sound a bit like David Bowie and others a bit like The Beach Boys. There's a lot of inspiration on that album which created An end product which is in my opinion their best album.
*I love the other five albums too.
Also, it worked Way faster on me than AM
I preffer TBH+C over AM (some Arctic Monkeys now can kill me)
Get the fuck out you Boomer
@@kasterkreep1264 calm ur tits gen z.
AM does stand for Arctic Monkeys, but it also stands for amplitude modulator. You know, like AM radio. That’s what’s on the album cover.
Wow, that’s something Ive ever realized! Thanks for this cool fact!
I always thought that shit looked like a bra
I feel like people are going to initially hate TBHC, for its experimental nuances. The new album not only grows on repeat listens, but it shows the range that AM have as well as yet another genre they entered. The Bowie/Doors/Shadow Puppets psychedelic trance rock is quite hypnotic and layered. And just like withthe last album, AM, Turner captures that chic detective 60s look. The new album is their, The Last Jedi.
Love the review you just gave. Really makes me want to listen to it again despite of my
bad first impression. Thanks for adding value to the video my friend!
Honestly hated it at first, but I played it quite a bit and now it's stuck in my head
good comment man
just saw the last Jedi thing. that's exactly the same analogy I used to on Facebook to describe it. and their into sci fi movies. yeah like ending themselves, ending a genre, ending an era. sacrificing their past for a new reality dream and vision. givi ng new kids new ideas and new fans
The Big LeBoschski 100% couldn't put it better myself.
Okay, when I clicked this, I just did it because it's the Monkeys and I am completely in love with their music. But maaan, this was so fkn professional and informative as well! I didn't expect that at all. So, thank you for this. And SUBBED! :D
Hahah i'm glad this exceeded your expectations. Thank you for all the positive feedback.
And if you have any requests for what i should talk about in the future, then let me know.
Any artist or band as long as t's rock music.
Hey man do a vid on coldplay
Damn!A woman of culture.
it is supremely weird to see such a little band that was very little known outside of britain and europe becoming very famous in the states i'm english and live near sheffield so its weird to see them get this popular LOVE IT THOUGH
Yeah i bet! They were the right guys, at the right place with just the perfect amount of luck to run
one of the most successful rock bands of all time. Although it took them quite a few years, it happened
really fast.
Trust me mate I live next to high green my best mate is the cousin to the drummer and 2 of my friends mums taught Alex Turner in high school, he was supposedly a quite kid in school.
You mean world wide, a Lebanese fan here
@@Crockeeey that's pretty cool. I live in sheffield too
@@bentownsend4017 coolest English accent among UK, said Thai guy
Ohhh gawd, I loved Alex's British accent.
And then it vanished into the night
He kinda sounds like he's doing a bad Bowie impression on the new album
I love his voice in general bfnfght
Yorkshire accent is the best
English accent 😊
I’m surprised you didn’t talk about “don’t sit down ‘cause I’ve moved your chair” at all. It’s about how the audience and media shouldn’t get comfortable (sit down) with their music style because they will change it (move your chair)
So true because of how AM are playing slower lately as Alex brings out his vocals more
That's fire
omg ur right i didn’t realize this
I find it funny, I know that AM stands for Arctic Monkeys but I always think of AM as in the early hours of the morning. I think it's almost fitting for the albums aesthetic, especially songs like Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High.
Yes i was thinking the same. Some people also envision it as Audio Modulation, because
of the artwork depicting sound waves.
Lie Likes Music That makes sense, I never thought about that.
Fact
I always thought of it as “AM” like the talkshow side of radio, while fm is more music, am has more talking, more intimacy, and for an album to be called that, makes it feel like “the chatter in the background”
My favorite moment concerning the Arctic Monkeys is when they performed on the Conan O'Brian show, or maybe it was some other late night talk show I'm not sure, but what was great about it is the lead singer stopped mid performance and quickly pointed to the audience and said "that guy's yawning!" ROFL, what a rad ass thing to do. It was during "a certain romance."
Correction it was Saturday Night Live ua-cam.com/video/sOcOmQTW5bY/v-deo.html and he says "That man just yawned!"
Oh, I thought AM meant Amplitude Modulation, used in radio, and the logo is an AM wave, so I thought that’s what it meant but I guess not.
I thought it meant After Midnight
It's a great album name and cover. It stands for Arctic Monkeys, it has an AM wave in cover and the best time of the day to listen to it is after midnight. Also inspired by velvet underground's VU.
It’s not a normal wave tho, it’s a pair of sunglasses
What I love about the arctic monkeys, and especially about Alex turner is their ability to expand the concept of indie, the complex lyrics that need to be read multiple times to really feel the power of the song, the experimentation on each album with new instruments, falsettos and guitar effects. Oh, and tlsp takes these terms to the extreme.
I need smone to talk about the lyrical contents of the TBH&C. I don't know if I can blame my incognizance of the meaning of the lyrics on my language barrier or Alex Turner's lyricism is just too great for my mind. If you don't mind making an Arctic Monkeys friend on social media and discussing, then pls reply😁
i was a teenager again in 2016 for TLSP... i can't express my admiration enough!
@@miragaiamaia8966 both of their records are so great, I'm hoping that there will be a 3rd one in the future 😍
Hearing you say "Brianstorm" aloud was the first time I realized it was called "BRIANstorm" and not "BRAINstorm" as I have been for years. I feel like quite a tit.
That's quite an impressive length of time for not knowing that lol xD Well now you know.
I'm sorry what? how did I only got the know this now?
Hahahahah! But I’m wondering how come u haven’t caught on the fact that’s he says: BRIAN top marks for not trying
quite a tit 💀
I also only realised this the other day
watching this in their Car era is instresting. Just saw them live last week and they're made to perform live. just phenominal
when u think u know them but then they release tranquility base hotel and casino
yea
It may be really old but " I bet you look good on the dance floor " is one of the best songs they've made
Understanding The Last Shadow Puppets? Alex Turner's supergroup band with Miles Kane is super sweet. I saw them live in Cleveland.
Saw em in San Diego
I was in Cleveland at that show too! It was sick when they came out wearing Lebron jerseys hahaha
Claire yeah! Alex wearing the LeBron jersey was the most unexpected thing and they sang "Everything You've Come to Expect" too 😂
AM will never be as good as TLSP, PERIOD.
They completely skipped Texas and I’m still bitter about it :/
Do Cage the Elephant
Zak Micallef yes!
HAAA YESSSSS
Yes!!
Yes
My FAVORITE BAND YESSSS
Love the use of "R U Mine?" in the beginning. That song gets so stuck in my head.
Well, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino is.... something...
Hannah! at the Disco
same. we literally waited 5 years for an album that sounds like elevator music
Jace Amaya AM was boring too so no surprise
Quack Quack but it still had something ya know
Quack Quack AM was at least catchy. I’ve watched their Tonight Show performance of 4 out of 5 at least a dozen times now and I can’t even recall how it goes, it’s just unmemorable
Metal Marauder thats not true. i watched the show only one time and i have it in my head ever since.
The inspiration behind the name "AM" does come from VU. However, it is good to note that while AM does stand for Arctic Monkeys, it stands for Amplitude Modulation, which is a technique used in transmitting sound waves, mainly using radios. The cover art of "AM" actually shows an Amplitude Modulation wave :)
Probably my favourite modern band. I'm hoping their next album will be similar to their debut.
Ned D. honey you got a big storm coming for you it’s literally the complete opposite of that
Lol i hear a lot of people saying that xD
JuliJewls 😂😂😂😂
Captain beefheart!
what a strange thing to want. if you want something similar to the debut, listen to the debut.
They are Rapidly becoming my new favorite band..I can't get enough..2020 me: I NEED NEW MUSIC.
Literally sameee
Same, I am sixteen so i wasn't around to the release of their previous albums, and I literally found them like 2 months ago, but WOW they are unbelievable. I really didn't think i would find a band that creates my dream type of music. I'm so sad rock music isn't popular in 2020, because i just need another rock album from them, but I guess maybe it doesn't perform as well anymore :(
same. I'm only 15 so I'm just getting into them but I can already say confidently that they are my favorite band
Dude same!! It’s so cool to see how more people are finding their music through tik tok! Can’t wait for their new music bc they’ll have so many new listeners
Try Radiohead
Their first album is absolutely fantastic. Such great lyrics.
Is that your favorite by them?
When you played Do I Wanna Know? with just the drums, I had a bit of a stroke.
Can’t stop listening to TBH+C. It’s so good
I really don't like it that much. But i'm glad you do tho!
Same, u really gotta listen to it a few times before u can appreciate it
If I'm honest I didn't like TBHT at first and I was disappointed but I listened to it again and grew to like it. Some people should give it another chance. Now I can't stop listening to it.
That's great :) I keep getting ads on youtube promoting the album. Honestly the ad
looks more interesting than what the album sounds like lol.
one of the best lyricists everrrrr✋🏻✋🏻✋🏻
I heard their new album TBH&C several times by now and I don't know, "Star Treatment" is good, but then the first half of the album is like one long song until we arrive "Four out of Five" which is a great song, probably their first single, the rest of the album is okay, but the last song, oh man.
The Ultracheese is one of those songs that instantly hit you deep and put you a very specific atmosphere, it's like you've known that song for a long time and listening to it makes you feel very nostalgic, at least in my case, I don't know, I fell in love with this song.
The ultracheese is amazing
About fuckin time.. but at the same time it feels like timing couldn't be more right 😉

Timing was on point yes :) Thanks for watching and commenting guys.
It means a lot. What is your favorite AM record?
Lie Likes Music I like the first two albums equally I guess followed by AM,Humbug,SIAS. Humbug is very underrated i feel.
growing up in sheffield everyone knows monkeys. most my family knows them personally but don’t speak much anymore. my dad went to some of their earliest gigs and still to this day says that the atmosphere they made just felt really chilled out. they lost that when they got popular though.

Favorite band of all time. Greatest. Just the goat. Few bands have the dynamic they have, listen to the solo section of r u mine where they all trade licks. Only the likes of led zeppelin, the beatles, and black sabbath achieve that kind of oneness
I'm glad you like them that much :) And thanks for watching!
Nicely done mate! Would be good to see one of your video essays on John Mayer, Jamiroquai or Vulfpeck 👍
I love John Mayer and Vulfpeck. I'll add them to my list. Thanks :)
I can’t believe we could have had 14 more songs of the greatness that is Humbug
Maybe it was shit.
Alex Turner, what a name. Funny enough I live in Sheffield and live just around the corner from where Alex Turner grew up, I have a best mate of mine who’s actually related to the drummer of AM, and also I have a couple of mates who’s parents taught Alex at stocksbridge secondary school. I always liked to ask them what was Alex like growing up and the only I answer I received was Quiet. Apparently he was a very polite young man and kept himself to himself. Id also like to add he famously walked into a pub known as The Anvil in stannington (Sheffield) one Wednesday afternoon and sat quietly in the corner waiting for a friend he grew up with to have a chat and pint. Overall it goes thru me about knowing Alex was just very similar to me and the rest of us and seeing where he’s come is frightening. I take my hats off to you, from Jonny - Sheffield

I’m so glad 505’s opening was directly influenced by good the bad and the ugly. I always thought of that scene when I heard the song.
Arctic Monkeys was the first band I fell in love with when I was introduced to them in 2012. Although each of their albums have brought a new type of sound, their signature in every song is unmistakable. They’re genius.

I’ve been listening to the monkeys since about 5th grade. I’ll be 25 this year . They just get better and the sound more mature every year ❤️
For everyone disappointed in Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino: To enjoy that album you need to actively listen to it once or twice to start enjoying it. I bet most people thought it was boring at first but eventually you pick up the really cool stuff in it. Favorite AM record

The Strokes for sure though lol

Man i had never seen such a good video about AM like this
Well now you have ;) And that's why i made it.
Their best period was between humbug and suck it snd see. Fact. The rest are all experimental and contrast from one another, but those albums represent the most poetic and audibly satisfying music they’ve ever created. The lyrics throughout suck it and see are consistently metaphorical and objective; Turner is a lyrical genius.
There first album was released 4 days before I was born, maybe that’s why I like the band so much
The new album is incredible, but it will be divisive
I think so too. You heard the leak? Their sound is a lot different again sin't it?
Lie Likes Music Yep i heard it! The album is very lyrics heavy which in a way is a shame to depart from the contagious riffs. However, Alex's lyrics are just unchallenged nowerdays. Feels like a mix of Humbug and AM to me
can't wait for their new album to drop tomorrow! excited to see what they have to offer after 5 years since their last album. I also managed to get my hands on some tickets to see them in September. so stoked!
Ouh that's gonna eb a lot of fun! Really hyped myself. Thanks for watching btw :)
Bessy Rein I’m going too! I’ve supported them since Humbug and I’m from Sheffield. Hearing all the places of pubs I’ve been in and know the owners of really warms me because they have been so successful!

sylveter flores I’ve tried avoiding listening to any teasers. I’ve only watched the main teaser trailer but nothing else. It’s been really hard but I’ve managed. So excited for tomorrow😁
Connie Primrose Their previous albums all came out when i was too young to go to concerts and I also didn’t listen to their older stuff then because I was oblivious to it. All I knew was stuff from AM and classics like fluorescent adolescence and I bet that you look good on the dance floor. But now they’re one of my favourite bands and I can finally go to concerts so with this new album coming out I can refuse tickets to see them 😂
I love AM. They have some of the most versatile music I’ve ever listened to and it conveys so many emotions, and gives me so many fantastic emotions. My favourite by far is No.1 Party Anthem cuz of the chilled, lax beat but there are so many I’d die to see live. They are some of the most intelligent musicians out there and they are so creative with their music. I would die for AM.
this was very informative, thank you. i love this band so much, i can’t even express it

yes.
It makes me so happy that this has over a million views. I started listening to AM back in 2007 and it's sooo nice to see their following continue to grow. By far the best band of our generation. Watching them evolve has been a magical journey that I hope never stops!
I really enjoy the evolution they’ve had with their music through the years. I find myself enjoying their old and their new music as well. They are extremely talented! Thanks for making this video. I’ve been watching a lot of AM content lately because I’m obsessed with them
I love your voice and your channel. Its heartening to see someone do a breakdown of the only band I've listened to each and every song of

For me arabella and crying lightning are my fav songs (stop the world i wanna get off with you is a close third) due to the drop and continuation/guitar solo. In crying lightning when the sound picks up in volume.
I saw them play in 2007 and again in 2023. They were amazing both times, 16 years apart.
i remember arctic monkeys music online for free back around 2002. i wasn't into them then. I fell in love with them with the AM album, finding it by chance. it is my favorite arctic monkey's album and I can easily listen to it from start to finish. thank you for making this video, it was very entertaining.
Here’s a safe play to talk about TBHC, so I’m going to do it.
There’s something special about it. It’s not so much Arctic Monkeys as it is Alex. And Alex exploring himself. It feels intimate, and like a diary of him and his struggles. I will admit he loses his transparency, but now he’s sending this message along the lines “Ive grown. And I hope you’ve grown too.” And really dives into his psyche. It’s a beautiful piece if you’re willing to sit and explore it, and understand what intimate parts of his life he’s sharing with us.
It isn’t an album I’d play at a party, or even a get together. But it’s something I’d play when I’m bored and just wanna relax. I love it all, and every part of it is something special.
I understand its lack of reception, and maybe even it lacking of praise. It’s something different. But not just what feels like a different type of rock, like how every album switch before hand. It’s something entirely new. And that’s fine. It’s actually great, and shows a new shift in Alex’s life, but at first, i didn’t dig it. Mainly because it was foreign. The monkey sound I loved has changed and it took time to adjust, and some people never gave it that adjustment time.
I’d love to see what he has planned next though for AM.
AM is my favorite album of all time. Literally every single track is as close to flawless as subjective music can be.
Great video, AM is my absolutely favorite band. Alex's lyrics are just so magical and real at the same time. Jamie, Matt and Nick are amazing in everything they play. Love them.
I learn a lot of thing about one of my favorite band! I can’t wait the release of Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino
Nice video
Roktzar the album is not what most would expect. its very piano driven.
MellinGames every fan knows that already
Ghernan That's what people said after every album release following their debut. It's the reason why they won't die.
TBHC is honestly their best album yet.
Arutzuki I'm not joking, it's the hard truth.
They are rock music’s last hope! They’re the best today.
Watching this 2 yrs later still a great vid mate keep it up

Thanks for supporting me man. That means a lot :) I've been a fan of these guys since 2013 when i

Why is Sheffield such as a goldmine for good music? I already knew my favourite band Bring Me The Horizon was from there, then I found out that another great band While She Sleeps also formed in Sheffield, and now I learn that Artic Monkeys is ALSO from, you guessed it, Sheffield, England. It seems like it’s got some great musical roots.
Alright I just searched it up and Def Leppard, Bromheads Jacket and The Human League also originate from Sheffield? The place really is a goldmine!
I live in sheffield, and it's honestly hard not to find locals who don't have experiences knowing people from those bands #savetheleadmill
Something about your videos just make me feel so creative and inspired! I love learning about bands I already like or musicians I've never listened to before. Your videos are so well made, and I generally appreciate every artist after watching so much more. You do great work!
That's very nice to hear. And that's the point of the channel. To make short rocumentaries about artists you're both

Thanks my friend! The videos will only get better though.
Humbug is their best album and Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino is actually amazing, contrarily to what the majority claims.
BHAC is different from the rock they did before. Too many people don't like changes or don't like many musical style I guess.
But I love that album so much.
Thanks youtube for suggesting this and you make something that just awesome! I cant describe it, just flawless.
Yes thanks youtube for sharing my videos haha xD I'm glad you enjoyed!
ı’m such a big fan and ı am so glad that you did this..thanks a lot
Great work, guys! Interesting and informative video
This sum up of the bands career is genius. Literally in love with the author🙏🏻
Thanks for the props! I'm glad the love i have for doing this reached you :)
I love The Mixing For Their Debut Album They Kick Some Much Ass
One cool fact about AM is, even though it does stand for Arctic monkeys, it also stands for "Amplitude modulation" and the wave on the album cover is the graph you get when you plug in the equations for Amplitude modulation in physics. It is really cool to see when you know the actual meaning behind it and also the fact that it conveniently stands for Arctic monkeys as well.
i cant belive some of their albums are over decade old now, they're truely timeless
nice video as always! i like how you go into details of some songs.
I try my best. I was almost making the decision to cut some of those things out because of the video length.
