Made it, tasted great. I had to improvise a bit as it is pretty difficult to find Molasses here (netherlands) and if one finds it, it is usually Cane Molasses rather than Blackstrap Molasses, so I made a mix of honey, maple syrup, and gula djawa. Maybe not ideal and a bit sweeter but still a great result. Maple syrup by the way was home made (i had a maple tree). Thanks for the great recipe John. I ordered some blackstrap molasses on line and will try again
Bietenstroop? Works just fine. It is not made from sugar cane but it is really tasty, maybe a little bit different. I always use it whenever a recipe calls for black molasses.

@@JohnKirkwoodProFoodHomemade OMG--Wikipedia knows EVERYTHING! (And, if WP is correct, it looks as if it was introduced, or popularized at any rate, in the 1970s. Whoever did it deserves a medal!)

Happy new year to you John, I was disappointed by your sticky toffee bread 'pudding', I expected it to be like a classic syrup pudding. Pouring the syrup over the bread doesn’t soak into the pudding, I have no doubt it was delicious.

That’s just rumour with no evidence and I personally don’t believe it as pudding are uniquely British, plus I can’t see two Canadian soldiers remembering a recipe as men definitely didn’t spend time in kitchens back then. Some claim the recipe goes as far back as the early 1900’s. Also toffee itself is an English invention.
Thanks for watching Sue, much appreciated. It mostly served in restaurants around the seventies. Please like share and subscribe for more great video recipes.
I just watched a Canadian cook claiming it a Canada original brought to England by soldiers during WWII. Their host wanted to give them a taste of home. She came very close to what old Canadian cookbooks called date cakes. They even mention serving with a hard sauce.
Hi love the sticky toffee pudding . I'm diabetic and while I can use a sugar substitute for the cake , can you direct me as to what I could use instead of the treacle ?

I️ have looked at many sticky toffee pudding recipes this past week trying to find one I️ liked and yours just sat well with me. I️ have a question though. Is this recipe easily doubled to bake in one large dish or should I️ make two separate ones? I’m making dessert for ~20 people and I️ don’t think one will be enough. Omg, iPhone for the fail.
Thanks for watching Desiree, For 20 people I would make three separate ones, you'll only get about eight portions out of one loaf, also you would need to multiply the sauce I make in video by at least six for that many people, thanks for watching much appreciated.

Hi John, just found your channel, amazing! I've even ordered the cook book and a couple of other things so thank you. Just one query, your teaspoon measures seem rather large, I use a measure and the half teaspoon is the tiniest little bit compared to yours?
Thanks for that Michelle, much appreciated. This is why all of my latest recipes I'm suggesting weighing every thing, l didn't realise the tsp, tbls, cups, measuring jugs, etc, can vary so much across the world. Just make your best guess in this recipe, I'm sure it'll be fine.
First, Happy Christmas from the US. At this season, Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carole, speaks of plum pudding. Could you consider this? Always thought I would like to try it. Seeing how you used dates, I wonder if it is similar to your Sticky Toffee Pudding?
One of my favourite passages from A Christmas Carol is " Come and listen to the pudding singing in the copper Peter" 👍😃😉 I'll look into in the new year Steven. All the best to you and yours too my friend 🤶😃👍😉🎅
I am late to the party, I realise, but as someone who is not a big lover of dates I would suggest that you try this. My mother used to serve dates with marzipan inside, at Christmas and I only ever ate the marzipan. However, after being boiled and softened and cooked in a sponge, they just taste like toffee. Give it a whirl, girl! Thank John and me later. PS Vanilla ice-cream is a must, as an accompaniment.

Thank you so much Papillon, just follow the baguette recipe to the letter, measure all the ingredients with scales and use proper bread flour, and you will get good results straight away, it just takes a little practise to handle and shape the dough, good luck and let me know how you get on, thanks again for watching. :)
Wow that looks AMAZING. Thanks for postong

Thanks again Shamshad, much appreciated. Yeah this is a really nice dessert and well worth making.
What was wrong with you John? Hope you are better now.
Thanks for your concern Shamshad, very kind. I developed a very nasty illness that I can't really go into, but I needed extensive surgery and many months of recovery, it was touch and go for a while but I managed with the help of doctors nurses and my family to get through it, and I'm well on the mend now, thank God, However I can never go back to work in my commercial kitchens, so you're stuck with me on UA-cam :) and my Son is taking care of the business :o)
Hope you get better soon. I enjoy your UA-cam's.
Nomnomnom!!! On the Christmas menu too.....
The recipe looks great as always! I'll try to make a vegan version of it, I never had Sticky Toffee before. I hope we will get a recipe for the ice cream you mentioned too in the future :)
Best wishes and thanks for the great videos
heyy

Oh John my favourite pudding I've never made this . But I sure will now .thank you .you are a good un a big thumbs up from me

I'm interested in how and when this pudding became popular in the UK. I see it quite often on my visits, but when my family left the country in the 1960s, as far as I know it was unknown.
It's all on Wikipedia Sue. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sticky_toffee_pudding
@@JohnKirkwoodProFoodHomemade OMG--Wikipedia knows EVERYTHING! (And, if WP is correct, it looks as if it was introduced, or popularized at any rate, in the 1970s. Whoever did it deserves a medal!)
Glad to see your subscribers have grown so much since this was posted! Can’t wait to try this recipe during lockdown, comfort food at its best! Just wondering why granulated sugar and not caster (or golden caster)?
You can use either.
Wow looks delicious 😋... I'll give it a try one of these days.. Thank you John....

Happy new year to you John, I was disappointed by your sticky toffee bread 'pudding', I expected it to be like a classic syrup pudding. Pouring the syrup over the bread doesn’t soak into the pudding, I have no doubt it was delicious.
Thanks for watching Margaret, much appreciated, all the very best for 2019 my friend 😉.
South Africans make a very similar pudding with brandy added. It's very popular here!

I can't believe how easy these recipes are, and I know when my partner and kids asks me if I'm going to make that again...... I know they've given it their seal of approval.
How about seeing as it's almost summer John, you show us how to make a quiche?

I recently made this, and my aunt says oh why are all your sticky toffee puddings dense, I then said please aunty try johns recipe, we made it and it came out perfect i think a lot of recipes out there for sticky toffee pudding end up being dense or heavy.
Fantastic! I'm pleased she gave it a try my friend and it turned out well.

fortheloveofchocolat molasses contains every vitamin and mineral your body needs ! So I take a teaspoon every day! Its a wonderful daily supplement!!
I have a bag of pastry flour that is going unused. Would this be a good recipe to substitute the pastry flour for the all purpose?
You need plain or all purpose flour. Thanks for watching, happy new year my friend.

Did you ever hear about the 2 Canadian soldiers that thought that to an English woman durning WW2? Date cake was a Canadian recipe! But that aside you did a lovely job! Bravo 👏
Thanks Billy. And thanks for watching my friend. My latest video recipe. Here is the ingredients list and full written method on the channels website, Lasagne Beef profoodhomemade.com/lasagne/
Can you use a small square baking tin?
Yes.
🤣🤣
New subscriber here--this dessert looks delicious. How long has it been popular in the UK? I don't remember it at all as a child there in the 60s.
Thanks for watching Peter, much appreciated. Not sure of any treacle substitute Peter, try having a look on line my friend.

John Kirkwood thanks for the reply John!

Hello Sir.
Such a wonderful recipe.
Can you share some eggless and non baking recipes...
I am allergic to eggs Sir.
💕💕💕💕💕
Will try, thanks again for watching.
One of my favourite passages from A Christmas Carol is " Come and listen to the pudding singing in the copper Peter" 👍😃😉
I'll look into in the new year Steven. All the best to you and yours too my friend 🤶😃👍😉🎅
If you don't like dates would you still say I might enjoy this desert?
Dates are the main ingredient in this recipe Mary.
