    Thanks for the video. I fell in love with sticky toffee pudding when I lived in Aberdeen for a year.
    BTW, black treacle is actually molasses (plain, not blackstrap) in the United States. Blackstrap molasses is much more bitter and not nearly as sweet. In the home, it is used more medicinally than culinarily.

    Made it, tasted great.
    I had to improvise a bit as it is pretty difficult to find Molasses here (netherlands) and if one finds it, it is usually Cane Molasses rather than Blackstrap Molasses, so I made a mix of honey, maple syrup, and gula djawa. Maybe not ideal and a bit sweeter but still a great result. Maple syrup by the way was home made (i had a maple tree).
    Thanks for the great recipe John. I ordered some blackstrap molasses on line and will try again

      Bietenstroop? Works just fine. It is not made from sugar cane but it is really tasty, maybe a little bit different. I always use it whenever a recipe calls for black molasses.

      Thanks for your concern Shamshad, very kind. I developed a very nasty illness that I can't really go into, but I needed extensive surgery and many months of recovery, it was touch and go for a while but I managed with the help of doctors nurses and my family to get through it, and I'm well on the mend now, thank God, However I can never go back to work in my commercial kitchens, so you're stuck with me on UA-cam :) and my Son is taking care of the business :o)

    I'm interested in how and when this pudding became popular in the UK. I see it quite often on my visits, but when my family left the country in the 1960s, as far as I know it was unknown.

    Happy new year to you John, I was disappointed by your sticky toffee bread 'pudding', I expected it to be like a classic syrup pudding. Pouring the syrup over the bread doesn’t soak into the pudding, I have no doubt it was delicious.

      I just watched a Canadian cook claiming it a Canada original brought to England by soldiers during WWII. Their host wanted to give them a taste of home. She came very close to what old Canadian cookbooks called date cakes. They even mention serving with a hard sauce.

    I️ have looked at many sticky toffee pudding recipes this past week trying to find one I️ liked and yours just sat well with me. I️ have a question though. Is this recipe easily doubled to bake in one large dish or should I️ make two separate ones? I’m making dessert for ~20 people and I️ don’t think one will be enough.
    Omg, iPhone for the fail.

    • @JohnKirkwoodProFoodHomemade
      @JohnKirkwoodProFoodHomemade  6 років тому

      Thanks for watching Desiree, For 20 people I would make three separate ones, you'll only get about eight portions out of one loaf, also you would need to multiply the sauce I make in video by at least six for that many people, thanks for watching much appreciated.
