I've been disabled due to a rare illness I've had since age 22. People see me and tell me, "you're too young to be disabled" just because my disability is not so visibly obvious. I can stand and walk, but not very well, and not for very long. I struggle just to step in and out of my bathtub and need assistance even to get into my car. And because my disability is caused by a medical condition that is also life threatening, I can easily get sick. I would catch a cold from someone I meet in public and end up in ICU. Because of this, I can't work a job. I mostly stay home and limit my exposure in public places. I've been advised not to go anywhere with large crowds, which includes church services. Visibly, when people see me, they think I look completely normal and don't understand why I'm legally disabled, use a wheelchair and have handicapped parking. They think I'm just being lazy. Because they can't relate. They don't understand how difficult every little thing can be, which they take for granted. Something as simple as just getting into a car. Be thankful, and have some consideration for those who struggle with disability every day.
I think a seasons suspension from the team would be fair, plus some community service in a rehab facility. As a wheelchair user I don’t think people have any idea how much these chairs cost... I didn’t until I needed one. They can be around the same as a new car- sometimes more. This is absolutely insane.

But those chairs will internally tear up your body and you’ll have pressure sores, pelvic obliquities, etc. They can’t be used long term, the body will start breaking down within months (I know this from personal experience) The same is true for scooters and folding powerchairs, which start at around 2K. They can’t be used all the time. My current manual chair was covered by insurance but the cost for everything was around 10K. My good friend with CP has a manual chair that was 30K.
Too many people lack empathy. Especially during these neo-fascist days.
