You put a comma before the word “period” and followed it with an actual period. Talk about an ironic misuse of a cliche. If an inconsistent strike zone is the mark of a good umpire, sure. The only thing consistent about Joe West is his ability to find controversy.
@@mandospence according to a study I'm too lazy to find and cite, Joe West actually has the most consistent strike zone in the MLB, too bad it's consistently inaccurate
This is why umpires are considered part of the “field of play”. They can’t be called for interference or obstruction. My daughter caught high school softball. She had a couple of games with a home plate umpire who was in a wheelchair. It was insane.
Because when the throw arrives Pena hadn't reached the base yet, he's still in front of it with his back squarely to the runner and the throw is a little back down the line towards home. When he arrives short of the base he squares his feet so he can spin to the runner but the throw was back down the line, not leading him onto the bag. When he has to reach out to catch it backhand he can't turn his left foot to the runner because he'd step away from the throw. So he takes the step back with his right foot to start turning his body to the outside when he sees that the throws not going to lead him to the bag, instead it's leading him to his backhand. At that point he has to just follow his momentum which is leading him to his right and makes his tag much faster to take the step as the ball's arriving then spin that way for the tag, than to catch the ball, take a full step against his momentum to turn his body to face the base then go for a tag. And he would have made the tag except the umpire wasn't expecting it and got in the way.
The Joe West flex will never fail to amuse me
I don’t like to see older umpires getting beat up but these are always the funniest highlights
1:55 looked like the ump was gonna cry
i would cry
Shout out to the umpires for pretending like that shit didn't hurted.
When Kerry wood hit Jerry meals for the first pitch of the game he later struck out twenty batters that day with a backup catcher
hmm
Damn this video makes umps look tougher than the players
Bad calls and interference could all be avoided with the cameras they are already using.
0:41 That sucked....the ump was in the way of the tag and he didn’t call his own interference
Amber Sun there is no ump interference rule lol
Don’t even know why the catcher would turn that way
@@beastm0de51 Lol there should be one if this is a recurring issue, then it will be on the umpires if a runner scores on their interference
@@blahblahblah3199 True, the catcher could've turned the other way
The umpires are as much a part of the field as the hill in Houston, and the ivy at Wrigley, and the birds who fly above or roost on the field.
Needed to see angel Hernandez take one off the shin
Love ur videos
This is why robo umps are coming soon
The 1st one literally bounced his head on the ground. Shit...
This is one of every baseball/softball player’s biggest fears
0:39...that's on the first baseman and/or the catcher. He threw it on third base, opposite where the runner was coming from...
It's not much them, they tried to get out of the way as much as they could
2:55 the batter blinded the catcher?
probably. i've been hit in a couple of times on a bunt attempt like that
“Umpires Getting in the Way”
Should be named Joe West’s greatest hits.
Joe West was one of the best umps, period.
freeyourmindtc are you insane

Umps should be kicked out if they block plates

Seriously in a wheelchair?
Carson Leath ....yes, he was in a wheelchair. He told both teams that he would not be getting out of the way, and they’d have to play around him.
Anne Jemima That’s crazy
Why couldn’t angel hernandez be the one getting hit
Cause they’d get thrown out
Cause he’d sue for racial discrimination🥱
Most were not "getting" in the way.
The Umpire Strikes Back
Well... that cheered me up
Lol
0:47 Why would you spin clockwise away from the runner?!?
Because when the throw arrives Pena hadn't reached the base yet, he's still in front of it with his back squarely to the runner and the throw is a little back down the line towards home. Should be named: “Blind middle-aged men being knocked over by millionaire athletes”
They’re probably close to millionaires too
They are still human. Every human makes mistakes. They just might make more
Joe west be like.
Ametures
Ah man where's the Jay Bell one? Ump got nailed right on the schnozz from a hard throw at point blank. Blood everywhere.
Anytime a bad umpire gets hit I’ll give the video a like
Umps....the most unathletic people around.
I don't get how 1:54 is getting in the way the catcher missed so he got hit
Well there were Runners on base so it would have been a wild pitch
Nicholas Trudeau no it wouldn’t. It’s not getting in the way because he was in the right position.
3:24 slow it down, that hit the runner not the ump
Ump dives outta da way
I re-watched a couple of time..... did i miss the part where someone said it hit the umpire????
@@billyfraiser6298 I mean the video is "MLB Umpires Getting in the Way"
Water is wet 05 not “umpires getting hit”
Yeah the ump dove to dodge it and he did it was the runner
I feel bad for the umpires.
Just another reason we need robot umps
.. they can barely move..
I wish joe west got hit more often
I wish you kept your opinion to yourself because it’s disgusting
Tyler Reddick you know what I hate more than joe west? Hypocrites.
Do you think that Joe gives one shit about your hate. You hate one but yourself with hate, kid..
freeyourmindtc you type like a kid
How many Joe West there are? It seems like he's everywhere.
Joe West is in 2nd place for most major league games umped, will likely be in 1st by the time he retires. He’s at over 5300
“Hopefully trout is alright, no offense to rob” no that’s definitely offense to Rob. Also, only Fat Joe West would brag after interfering with a play.
it was a foul ball, he interfered with nothing
evevyone stay safe
Hell nah. I stay living life on the edge. I'm about to play some Russian roulette RIGHT NOW!
Hugo Chavez
Alex Dalex I think he meant from Covid
@@alexdalex3582 dang
