this was exactly what I was looking for but I was dissapointed to see that u haven't posted in a while, u should make more videos because this was very helpful and professional.
Thank you! Make sure you check out the updated version of this video though ua-cam.com/video/DabUjz70DKg/v-deo.html Don't worry, I haven't given up, I've been working very hard on a video for a while now, it's pretty complex which is why it's taking so long. Once that's out of the way I will be pumping them out much faster! :)
hiya, love the vid! I got an elemental kited to my base 3 times in a week on a PvE server and decided to go for an outer metal shell to counter this. the problem I have is; I live on a hill and my base is put up on pillars and thus ceilings instead of foundations.. is there a way it van still be done?
Great question! The answer is yes, it can be done. Start where the ground is highest, make two foundations, one slightly lower than the other (as shown in the video). From the lower foundation snap your metal ceilings and extend the metal pillars down from them. From the higher foundation snap the adobe ceilings. Then proceed as normal. Hope that makes sense and it goes well for you :)
The fence foundations that you put at the top of the roof... are those entirely required? Like if I didn't put those and then broke the thatch wall, would the roof collapse?
Yes, you can! Foundations, walls and ceilings can all be stacked. As you can see in the video you have extra snap points for the walls so you can potentially have 3 metal walls externally. To stack the ceilings, just do the same as in the video by building up with thatch walls from each different foundation height.
Nice base man, i tried to build it but two of the metal walls outside wont snap onto the right point, every other wall does.... do you know what the issue can be? I already tried replacing the triple fence foundation and it still doesnt work on the same two walls....
Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Here's a couple of fixes for you to try: 1. Build from the top down - snap thatch ceilings from a correct wall (on the outside, at least 2 walls high) then work down from that. 2. When placing the fence foundations, place a couple of extra wooden ones above the metal ones. Demolish them once the wall is placed.
Don't have exact figures but according to my quick calculations its roughly: 1200 ingots 400 cp 2600 wood 1200 thatch 800 fibre 3600 clay Bare in mind you don't have to do it the same size as I did though! Thanks for your support ;-)
Make sure you check out the new version I did of this, some bits on this one don't work anymore! ua-cam.com/video/DabUjz70DKg/v-deo.html Don't have exact recourses but its roughly: 1200 ingots 400 cp 2600 wood 1200 thatch 800 fibre 3600 clay
I only have it on Xbox, I don't think it will be up to date with PC version yet. You could try a different method of placing the fence foundations: Place the first metal one as normal, don't bother with the wooden one then place the second metal one on the higher temporary ceiling just before you place the metal wall. If that makes sense? Its hard to describe!
This fencing method doesn't work on PC....I've been trying for about an hour now and I can't get it to stack. I've tried all metal and all wood fencing posts but none of them are working....any other ideas?
You might have snapped the foundation at the wrong height. When you place the thatch foundation and pillar at the beginning that creates 2 snap point heights, you need to be sure to use the lower one.
captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips you're right it would, but like I said destroying only one foundation wouldn't affect the base other than removing insulation until replaced. Although using that method you'd also need pillars on the corners to protect the walls, so yeah it would be a lot more expensive. I think your way actually is better. Nice job
Snaporello Yeah, you are right in saying the loss of one adobe foundation wouldn't effect the structure, although I think anything placed on it like storage boxes would be destroyed. I made this video with official server rates in mind (before they made it x2 and allowed transferring items in) so if you have the resources there's no reason not to add extra wall layers, ramps and corner pillars. Anyway, thanks man ;)
You can do It with stone but the method is slightly different, the stone walls would go on the inner snap point rather than the middle one because otherwise they would be inside-out (metal walls look the same either way).
*PARTS OF THIS VIDEO NO LONGER WORK, AN UPDATED VERSION IS AVAILABLE HERE:* ua-cam.com/video/DabUjz70DKg/v-deo.html

subbed, it's nice watching a tutorial without the dub-step blasting away
Thank you! And its nice to have someone who appreciates that, it can be tricky finding half decent uncopyrighted music.
That's really good to hear, ur building technique has saved me from 3 sets of trolls already.
Wow! nice one, that's what I like to hear :)
this really helps in sorched earth, where it gets super hot, and yet the creatures are stronger
nice guide, i like the quick intro and written notes! gonna try this out soon
Thanks, I'll be uploading an even better version in about an hour ;)
Awesome video man never knew this was possible
Your background music sounds like a zeppelin song from houses of the holy but cant pinpoint which one
Someone else said that a while back, that's funny
@@captainfatdog figured it out. It's the rain song from houses of the holy. Same riff different key
@@oDMACo don't think I've ever heard it, I'll have to give it a listen
Dude I love these videos there so helpful
Thanks, glad you like them!
subbed, liked and loved the build! the best part though, that Zeppelin!
Thank you very much! Make sure you check out the newer version of this though (link in the description)! What zeppelin???
captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips oh your right, no Zeppelin. just uses the same riff from the rain song. my mistake. Great builds though.
Oh, haha. I cant use any proper songs like that because of copyright. I guess whoever made this must have used the riff from it though!

You don’t need to armour your base on PVE just build some. Stone behemoth gates around it and you will be good
Bro your literally a fucking genius in all your vids.
AWESOME ! THX MAN ! YOU GOT À NEW SUB :D
Superb, Thank you very much!
You need to put the materials that you need example (9 metal foundations)
I did consider doing that but I decided against it since you could make it any size you want, this is just an example.
The fence foundations that you put at the top of the roof... are those entirely required? Like if I didn't put those and then broke the thatch wall, would the roof collapse?
Awesome vid by the way, tremendous help!
No, I should have mentioned, they are just to cover up the bits of adobe ceilings sticking through the walls.
Thanks mate ;)
Couldnt you use this technique in normal to wall and foundation stack to make it harder to raid?
Yes, you can! Foundations, walls and ceilings can all be stacked. As you can see in the video you have extra snap points for the walls so you can potentially have 3 metal walls externally. To stack the ceilings, just do the same as in the video by building up with thatch walls from each different foundation height.
Very helpful video :)
Where can I find the music? I enjoyed it
Wes Hutchinson - Plastic or Paper
Wes Hutchinson - Alta Loma Terrace
:-)

But this house, can i do with the stone?
Yes, but the method is a bit different, I will do a video for it soon!
Thanks man
Does this work with your building on non flat ground video technique
I have done it before but didn't insulate the bottom part, it's not impossible but could be tricky.
Nice job man
Thanks man!
hey man, would you be so kind to provide a resource count for this build?! Excellent design!
Don't have exact figures but according to my quick calculations its roughly:
1200 ingots
400 cp
2600 wood
1200 thatch
800 fibre
3600 clay
Bare in mind you don't have to do it the same size as I did though!
Thanks for your support ;-)
Yup you are definitely awesome. =]
You are awesome too, your comments are much appreciated =]
Im having trouble on pc, it always puts it on the wrong snap point....
Which bit? Have you tried using the snap point cycle buttons (Think it's 'Q' and 'Z' on PC)?
This would be a great base for PVE too if you switch the metal with stone.
Yeah, the process is slightly different for stone though, I might do a video on it at some point.
Does it still work?
you got a new sub, be sweet if you say how much resources it has taken
Make sure you check out the new version I did of this, some bits on this one don't work anymore! ua-cam.com/video/DabUjz70DKg/v-deo.html
Don't have exact recourses but its roughly:
1200 ingots
400 cp
2600 wood
1200 thatch
800 fibre
3600 clay
Oh, and thanks for subbing ;)
Maybe i am wrong but after todays update you triple-fence foundation system does not work
Hmm, I'll have to investigate. What platform you on? PC?
yep. it worked a couple days ago and today nope, just after update
I only have it on Xbox, I don't think it will be up to date with PC version yet. Yeah, sorry about that! I'll try to figure out a different method, I will make a new video if I do.
its not letting me stack the fence foundations
No, they wont do that any more, I have done an updated video though: ua-cam.com/video/DabUjz70DKg/v-deo.html
I am planning to start out on a new server, can someone tell me if you can swap metal with stone?
You can but the method of building it is a little different. I will do a video on it soon because a couple of others have asked the same question.
very helpful thank u so much
You wouldn't have a list of materials would you?
It depends how big you want to make it! Have you seen the app called A:RC? I haven't tried it yet but it calculates materials for you.
You can also use air conditioners instead of Adobe
Have you tried it? I thought they had bad range?
doesnt work I cant put ceilings on foundations
You might have snapped the foundation at the wrong height. When you place the thatch foundation and pillar at the beginning that creates 2 snap point heights, you need to be sure to use the lower one.
Why not use adobe foundations?
Because the metal ones wouldn't cover them up properly, you could damage them from the outside.
Ok thanks.
Surely adding ramps would make it more expensive not less?!
captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips you're right it would, but like I said destroying only one foundation wouldn't affect the base other than removing insulation until replaced. Although using that method you'd also need pillars on the corners to protect the walls, so yeah it would be a lot more expensive. I think your way actually is better. Nice job

Ok,thx i try to build that base on dlc scorched earth but this will take a lot od time until i get cp
Are you on official server? Can you transfer cp from another map?
Yes, i font think so
Dont*
this only work for pc??
I made this on Xbox!
captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips sweet so i can on ps4 right? anyonr wanna join me on ps4 im curtisthemetcat server 835
Yeah, it should work
what about door ?? ...
Haha I know, I forgot and couldn't be bothered re-recording it, I was already on like the 10th attempt!
It won't let me place the roof properly
why? Which bit, adobe or metal?
captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips adobe
whats going wrong? is it at the wrong height?
captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips I wanted two floors so I did 4 high is that why?
You should still be able to do it. I would suggest doing the roof first then add the in-between floor after.
this is cool
Its funny to see a xbox player with a brain.......
Haha, most of the good builders are on Xbox for some reason. I think maybe we experiment more because we don't have mods and stuff.
