i love this video, no unnecessary talking, no begging for subs and attention, just pure simple tutorial and clear understanding! saw one video and already subscribed, keep being great!
Still works as of 2023, just that there's a bug going around that makes structures not snap to the highlighted area. Just found you recently after straight up absorbing all the info on building I could find the past week, and this is so much better than the fence method Keep it up!
Thank you so much, I cant even begin to explain the amount of irritation that the uneven stacked walls gave me! Even the six stacked walls are very visually appealing. Your videos are great and cannot wait to see what you do in the future!
I have seen a lot of building tutorial vids, and this by far has to be one of the best. A lot of folks who make building videos never mention the keys to move pieces. Well done sir and thank your for this video.
It is insane that you don't have more subscribers because the amount of work and dedication that you put into your Videos is insane. Ps love your vid's!!❤️❤️
*I am getting a lot of questions about stacking foundations and ceilings with this method. You should do both, I will be doing a video on it at some point. You probably already know how to stack foundations so I wont explain that (although there is a method to stack them closer together that I will show). To stack ceilings you can build temporary walls up from each foundation in the stack, snap a ceiling to the top of each. They will be vertically spaced out the same as your foundations.*
Thanks! I came back just to ask about the ceilings but you beat me to it - really looking forward to more videos. You have a very nice production, too bad there aren't more videos - quality over quantity I guess. Anyways keep up the good work! Really looking forward to learn how to 6 layer the ceilings!
Hehe, thank you! Yes, I must increase the quantity though. I've decided to stop playing for a few weeks to focus on videos so hopefully there should be an increase :)
captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips yo fool first off.....just messing thanks for the video all others are hard to follow due to the person not shutting up and adding an annoying voice that's impossible to pay attention to...yours is simple and straight to the point! appreciate it keep up the good and hard work!
@@captainfatdog all your guide is super great, lol i literally combine all of them together and make a base with all stations hidden, including smithy. lol i don't even need to add door its been there a year and still not raided
I remember when I would try for hours in frustration of trying to layer walls and I began to run out of hope but just when all was lost that's when I learned about the captain fatdog method! And since then no more frustration and now I'm a pro wall layerer!
Your videos are very well made and easy to understand and you have already gone over some of the most problematic topics , if you would get a mic and do it as a voice over it may appeal to more people but either way you have my support from now on .
Thank you, I appreciate that very much :) I think you are right, this video certainly would have benefited from a voice over. With some of my other videos I don't think it matters as much, some people have even said they prefer the subtitles. Either way, I can't afford a mic right now but it's certainly something I am considering for the future.
captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips I actually didn't even notice there was no voice over and liked the video just fine the way it was. A lot of people can ramble on a lot about things I don't care about too, and that gets annoying to the point I will watch videos frequently in 1.5x to 2x speed. Your video was perfectly edited that I didn't feel like any time was wasted with anything pointless like most videos out there, and I felt no need to speed it up like I usually do. Very well done!
Damn I usually browse through crafting vids but I like the quality a LOT. The explanation is point on and the graphics used make it so much better. Take my like and sub
I've been thinking recently about how i can make more content quicker, i'm going to do some base build videos and stuff I think, they would take less editing. Your English was perfect by the way :)
I've been waiting for ages for this video to arrive. :D Now that i see it, it seems it's based on the layered wall trap, except choosing to stop at 3 each side of the "middle" to get a 6 layered wall in the end. Makes sense. :) I also note your approach of this technique seems to keep the layered walls at same height, where the one i've seen for the trap had the height getting gradually lower, so yours is arguably superior.
Yes, I've seen the wall trap method used on a few videos but as far as I know, nobody has done a video showing this yet which actually surprises me, it's so simple to do! And like you say the walls are all perfectly level, they don't gradually get lower! I'm looking forward to seeing what others come up with using this.
Yeah, I think onewing was the one that came up with that method. Since then I have seen it used by Voxesto ua-cam.com/video/iuOE0EfAxOE/v-deo.html and Seerower ua-cam.com/video/KYOONq03kRU/v-deo.html
Imagine trying to raid this like Lol he has a double layer, ez and spending hours busting 4 walls and being like”right you can’t stack over 4” then seeing ANOTHER one.
I added on to this Method and made 10 thick walls with 10 ceilings and it was perfectly squared and awesome! It’s a cool method and can get even thicker than 10
I'm surprised to see other people use this method. I just started playing ark recently and saw videos of the normal method. I didn't like how it was uneven so I spent way too much time trying to figure something else out. I do basically the same thing as you. Definitely going to subscribe to your channel.
That's what I like to hear, someone else who doesn't settle for mediocre! Have you figured out a nice way to stack ceilings yet? I'm going to do a video on that too. Thanks for the sub ;)
Holy hell. That's awesome, fellow Cap'n! I suppose you could do 4 walls on either side of the foundation, which would give you a total of 8 exterior walls. The foundation would only be used for those walls, then your base foundations would be further in... I might test that, unless you wanna for me :)
Hehe! Yes, there are many possibilities with this. The only issue with doing walls on the outside is that the corners are left open, but go ahead and try it out, let me know what you come up with, you might be able to cover the corners with pillars or something :)
Thanks! I saw your video, someone pointed it out to me already. I did 21 😜, have a look twitter.com/captain_fatdog/status/864981300880474112 You are right though, it sure is expensive and the corners are a bit of a problem. As you say, the advantage of going the full thickness of the foundation like that is that it is supported from the inside.
So glad I found this. I have been building out of metal just because of it being the strongest right now on PS4 and seeing this method I can make my cute homes even on pvp.
great vid. fast and simple yet covers everything. I like how just by adding simple scaffolding there is no guessing and makes all the walls flush. Great Job and great vid.... Subbed 😀

hey bro amazing video I have been doing it many other ways unlevel and it irritated me, amazing editing, I am a die hard ark PvP fan nearly 3k hours now and I will be using this very soon in a mega base build
Nice quality content. You should make a video on how to best armor foundations so that the 6 layer walls dont have more hp than a tripple foundation. Also something that you might have not known is that if you continued adding walls all the way to 20 walls, the 18th, 19th, and 20th wall will support all of the center walls that got demolished in your video. So if the attacker demolished the outside 4 walls he would have to keep going until he demolished each of the 20 walls individually. However, the attacker would most likely go for the foundation and if the foundation was only a 3 or 4 layer foundation, then he could just demolish the 60k health of 4 foundations instead of the 200k health of 20 walls. I would really like to see a talented youtuber and ark specialist like yourself to make a video on how to make the thickest possible layer of foundations, and how to armor the outside to get maximum protection.
Thanks mate! You are right, 3 foundations aren't enough for 6 walls, I will be doing a video soon on how to stack up to 6 foundations (packed closer together than the traditional 3). Thanks for letting me know about going all the way to 20, I was already aware of it though. I actually made a 21 wall thick base when experimenting for this video, take a look: twitter.com/captain_fatdog/status/864981300880474112 I almost put it in this video but I thought I'd save that one for another day. The answer to the foundation problem in this scenario is not only stacking multiple foundations but also stacking ceilings straight on top of the foundations, ceilings can be stacked much closer together than foundations. You could have 14 ceilings sat on top of 4 foundations. The only problem holding me back from showing it in a video is what to do about the corners, they are another weak spot if the raider hits the walls in the right order. I have a few ideas for it but haven't had chance to test them yet. Thanks again for your comment, I appreciate the support :)
captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips Yeah no problem. Thanks for making a nice video. Whats your gamertag? You should add me and we can talk about it. My gamertag is: Johnnyfoxyblues
Thanks to this I experimented a bit and I’m pretty sure you can do up to 40 walls thick if you layer 1 full foundation outwards from your base and 1 full foundation inwards
lol this trick help me a lot. Now, i can hide smithy in foundations. Combining the method of hiding mortar and pestal, foundation rising, and unlimited wall stacking, hiding smithy is now possible.
No problem, its different to the flipping that happens when you move your character though, this one offsets the wall slightly. Although there is a button to cycle through snap points too which does the same as moving your character.
Thank you very much Ross, I have plenty more ideas yet :D I don't have Patreon yet but I have been considering it. I'm just not sure what rewards I could offer.

Hey, I seem to be having problems, does this only work with metal walls? Im trying and following closely but the wood wall is obstructed? anyone have some tips? I have tried from every angle (I am on xbox one) and still cant fit the wooden wall.
and what about if this doesnt work? I place a foundation, I place a flipped wall, I place a ceiling, then the second wall will not go on, the closest I will go is on the next floor above but in the right alignment, do I need to use thatch? is that the trick?
@@captainfatdog hi bud, yeah I think that was it, the server I'm on is using the SS mod, I think my best option using SS would be wallx2 > stacked foundation > wallx2 The extra space needed/loss of cavity isn't a big deal where I'm defending as it's a flat wall while I'm buried in the back if a natural cavern so plenty of space behind to add cavity and extra walls of foundations for example. Appreciate the reply as that affirmed what I eventually figured out.
Omg thank you so much . I just built 1 and some guy tried raiding it . I literally watched him waste 6 rockets and like 10-15 c4 just to find an empty shell 😂😂😂😂
I've had zero luck stacking walls in the past with any method but I haven't tried this method. The issue I have is trying to find snap points on dual foundations, and also when you start stacking the walls. Do you need to still put ceilings to snap the walls to the ceilings, or is there a specific order to place the walls once you get past the first level of walls? I've gone through so many ingots with walls being destroyed over the same wall.
The snapping issues are honestly a huge problem that need to be fixed, it's got worse as time has gone on, not better! Once you have your first layer of walls placed you can stack more on top without additional ceilings. I also did videos on stacking foundations and ceilings that show a bit more.

Thank you very much :D
Super Good video!
Thank you!
Really Nice Video!!!!!
So thanks for this great video
This is amazing!!! Now I can finally defend my poor base! XD
Thanks, hope it works out for you and you don't get raided ;)
Holy crap this is great. I'm have a primitive play character and this strategy will be used. assuming I won't have issues doing this in stone anyway.
I think it works, I will have to test that. The only thing is that the walls are inside out which is more noticeable with stone.
Very nice. Thank you.
Best videos ever.
Amazing video
and what about if this doesnt work? I place a foundation, I place a flipped wall, I place a ceiling, then the second wall will not go on, the closest I will go is on the next floor above but in the right alignment, do I need to use thatch? is that the trick?
Are you using modded structures?
@@captainfatdog hi bud, yeah I think that was it, the server I'm on is using the SS mod, I think my best option using SS would be wallx2 > stacked foundation > wallx2
The extra space needed/loss of cavity isn't a big deal where I'm defending as it's a flat wall while I'm buried in the back if a natural cavern so plenty of space behind to add cavity and extra walls of foundations for example.
Appreciate the reply as that affirmed what I eventually figured out.
This is amazing and also when doing 6x layering is that raiseing the thatch foundation
Thanks! Yes, but also offseting it horizontally.
Great Tutorial, simple and effective. +1 sub keep up the great work
Thank you! And thanks for subscribing :D
Fantastic video great quiality usefull tips.
Omg thank you so much . I just built 1 and some guy tried raiding it . I literally watched him waste 6 rockets and like 10-15 c4 just to find an empty shell 😂😂😂😂
Hahaha, that's hilarious, I wish I saw it!
Worth waiting for ^_^
Thanks pal :D
Hey nice tuto, I do not need to repeat the sequence to raise the walls upwards, no, with respect to the ceiling, would it go without problem?
Thanks ;)
Once the bottom layer of walls are in place you can simply stack more on top. Please see the pinned comment about ceilings.
Great vid works very well easy to do thank and keep it up
Thanks Ivan, glad you like it 😉
bravo my dude
great video! subed and liked!
Thank you :)
Tanks god! I knew this tactic but didnt no how it works with the same high of the walls
