    You're an actual life saver. I was getting so upset because any method I saw wasn't working for me for building walls around my main base instead of gates. This worked so perfectly! Thank you!

    As a builder, uneven terrain is the most annoying thing out there by far. This video is helpful because it is a simple method, it's easy follow the steps, and the end product looks amazing. Thank you this video is so helpful.

    Thanks so much for this, really helped me get a nice big flat wall with all the bottom gaps tidy. The temp ceilings to get an outer snap point was the key for what I was missing. I found this method to be fairly quick too.

      Nice one, I'm glad it helped! On my latest video I've actually been using this to build castle walls, more complex than this though because it has 45 degree angles too.

    Damn. This helped me so much. I hate it so much that Ark forces you to build on even ground, then makes maybe 2% of the map even and then does not even give you an option to build on uneven ground. Love you man :)

    I really like this method, it really does change how building is for me, but the fact that it's not entirely flush is kind of irritating to me.
    I have found out that using sloped walls on the fence foundations sometimes (but not always) allow you to clip into the actual building on the pillars which can then be replaced by normal walls, giving the building a more flush, natural look.
    Give it a go when you have the time, it might work for ya.
    Overall I really love your videos, very to the point yet still informative.
    Keep it up, my friend, you just earned yourself a new sub.

      @@captainfatdog I looked up your video this morning because I am trying to do this very thing, I copied exactly what you showed step for step and when I got to the point where you snap a floating pillar underneath the ceiling the game refused it. 00:57 I tried it from other angles and then tried to just recreate that one part alone and the game will not allow the pillar to float like that even though it is a fully connected structure.

  • @gnatfelton4117
    @gnatfelton4117 7 років тому

    i did something quite similar to this before not knowing it was what it was, in my experience you shouldnt need to go through the trouble of building the thatch roof, if you start from the bottom typically they will line up, i suppose this method is better because it better so accounts for the uneven height, but many methods ive found work. ark really truly lets you build with amazing levels of freedom! lets just all hope they polish up whats wonky though rare

    • @captainfatdog
      @captainfatdog  7 років тому

      Yeah, there's many different ways to build on uneven ground. Depends on the sitiuation as to which method I like to use. There's another one I like that doesn't have pillars it's just all foundations, I am yet to do a video on that.

    Ok, I'v tried this out, it's not straight forward at all but with some patience and a lot of frustrating snapping errors it can be done, once you work out the best angles to snap from. I got my columns poking through the ceiling pieces on some but not all, it's still a work in progress but I should get there eventually..... Good tutorial although I would have liked it a little slower... Thanks for taking the time, it was a big help...

    • @dmcjustabloke3341
      @dmcjustabloke3341 7 років тому

      Excellent, I look forward to your next tutorial..... Btw, not too sure how the foundation works, I'm having to re-set most of mine as I just can't figure out which way is the correct way(Highlighted?) to place them consistently so that the face of a wall is facing outwards and the back of the wall facing inwards. Do I need to re-set the foundation? or can I just reverse the wall at "Green" when placing it? Thanks again :-)

    • @captainfatdog
      @captainfatdog  7 років тому +1

      That's probably the most annoying part of doing this. You can't just flip the wall because it won't line up right, but you can press the flip button when placing the fence foundation.

    • @dmcjustabloke3341
      @dmcjustabloke3341 7 років тому

      Ah-ha, Sorted :-)the differences on each side of the foundation are quite subtle but I figured it out thanks... You really have to pay attention to small details here particularly which way your facing when laying them out.... BiG Thumbs! ;-)

    • @scipiourbex
      @scipiourbex 8 років тому

      @NeddyTheNoodle I'm on PC and had the same issue with it not letting me place the walls inside the other walls. How did you fix the problem?

    • @NeddyTheNoodle
      @NeddyTheNoodle 8 років тому

      Make sure you have the thatch roofs placed like he did, (temporarily ofc) and then you need to place the stone walls as far away as you can, and make sure they're facing on the outside. You need to make sure the game thinks that the walls are technically attached to the thatch ceilings, and facing outwards. Dw, demolishing them wont get rid of them. Basically if it isnt letting you place the walls inside the other walls, its because they're right above your fence foundations. You need to make sure they're like a couple inches outside of them, by making sure it places on the inside of th ethatch ceilng, but pointed out.

    Hello my friend, I was able to make the wall using his technique, it is not finished yet, but it is getting the way I wanted it to, it only has one ... As the extension of the wall is very long, the bottom part Where it has the foundations of fence at a certain moment utrapasses the upper part supported by the pillars, then I have to put the foundations of close without that they fit the previous one ... It is a little more complicated, but it is working. Once it's done I'll make a video and post the link for you to see.
    Thanks a lot for the help!

      captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips I see. I was able to replicate this technique without any fence foundations except at corners to align the pillars in the next direction of construction. At the end, I could build walls down from the ceilings without any fence foundations present beneath them. The only difference I can think of is that my server has clipping enabled, so that may be the factor that allowed me to skip the fence foundations.

    • @captainfatdog
      @captainfatdog  6 років тому

      Yeah, if you have no collision enabled then there's no need to use this video, you just build the walls streight down from the ceilings.

      you need to snap the pillars down from the thatch ceilings. It can be a tricky snap point to get sometimes but it is there!

      No, I'm pretty sure it works with all materials :)

      Your method for building is very important, so I can build a wall without elevation on top.
      I tried to do it in the scorchead eart, but I could not ... The inner part does not catch!
      Could you make a video building a little wall?

    • @captainfatdog
      @captainfatdog  7 років тому +1

      I think I know what you mean, so you want a single skinned wall but with the top of the walls all at the same level?
      The main thing to know is that the bottom part and top part are not connected, the bottom walls are supported by the fence foundations and the top walls are supported by the ceilings. So you would need to have pillars and ceilings behind your wall to support the top part.

    • @MuSaintsBR
      @MuSaintsBR 7 років тому

      Exactly, but I want walls from one side and the other to form the wall and using its technique, and in each wall unit I want it to have calumnies of pillars accompanying the height of the wall. And for this I have to be able to do the same way that you do, but until today I can not, even doing the same way the lower pardes even in the wall casting turn red.

    • @captainfatdog
      @captainfatdog  7 років тому

      Ah, so you want the wall to be 1 foundation thick with pillars inside going right to the top? Is it on PvP or PvE?

    do we need the fence ??????

    • @captainfatdog

      Yes, it supports the lower walls

      You mean when theres a little stub sticking though the top or when its sticking half way through?

      captain fatdog - ARK: Building Tips both happened to me but my problem right now is a little piece coming out of it

    • @captainfatdog
      @captainfatdog  7 років тому

      But that's what is supposed to happen, only you use thatch ceilings then demolish them and put new ceilings on top.

      True. But when was the last time anyone decided to go through the foundation instead of the wall? If it makes you happier though check this out: twitter.com/captain_fatdog/status/824315859267158026

    If the foundation shape isn't a square or rectangular, do you start at the highest fence foundation for each side and just pillar up to the height of the other ceilings?

    • @captainfatdog
      @captainfatdog  Рік тому +1

      Nah, because the heights wouldn't match up. You'd have to build the shape from that one highest point.

  • @Hanamanini

    What are the pillars for? Can't you just like build the walls and then out roof on?

    • @captainfatdog
      @captainfatdog  7 років тому

      No because fence foundations don't support ceilings :(
      I do have another method though that uses normal foundations and no pillars, I will be doing a video on it soon.
