For a spur of the moment creation, I'll give it a 10! I never saw a woman look so good with a beard! Love your sense of humor, and the way your brain works in general. Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions!
All 3 members were born in 1949. Billy Gibbons and drummer Frank Beard are 75. Bassist Dusty Hill died in 2021, when he was 72. Ironically, Frank Beard is the one without a long beard.
These guys stopped by one night to visit a friend of mine that owned a very popular music dig in San Marcos, Texas called Cheatham Street Warehouse. OF course I was there.....my roommate worked behind the bar for the owner Kent Finlay. ZZ Top Band had been playing that night in San Antonio(30 miles away) at a Fraternity gig(in 1973) and Kent introduced me to the band members......true story. We knew who they were.....everybody in Texas did. I believe this song was released and made it big in 1974. These guys are from Houston, Texas.
I met up with Uncle Billy in Brandon Mississippi amphitheater the day after Dusty Hill the bass player died..The guitar tech filled in for Dusty. It was a good emotional concert. There was Dustys microphone with his hat hanging off it in Dustys spot. I grew up with hearing them jamming in the living room at 3am in the 70s with all my uncles and dad they would jam for days at a time. Rip Dad and Dusty
This is really where ZZ Top came from. They were originally a hard core blues band, who were emulating their OG blues heroes, Muddy Waters, Lighting Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, etc...
The song is referring to what was known as the Chicken Ranch, a brothel that operated in Texas until shortly after this song came out. It is also the brothel that was the inspiration for “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”. The brothel currently exists in Nevada in the town of Pahrump.
I don't remember the yr. but the Chicken Ranch was opened before the Civil War, closed during the war, & reopened after. It was put out of business due to a Houston ABC-TV consumer affairs reporter as related in the musical & movie "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas".
“From the High Desert in the Great American Southwest, In the Kingdom of Nye:I bid you all good evening and or good morning wherever you may be across this great land ...
ZZ Top’s ‘Cheap Sunglasses’ is arguably the coolest song ever written! The album recording is a sublime jam..aw & the way it beautifully falls apart at the end lets you know they were improving & hanging on for dear life!
Bis... I'm a retired drummer (started 1964). I'm Old.*78* It's not an insult, lol, it's a fact & I'm happy with it. I worked to get here. Thank you for being young, for being respectful, for appreciating the music of my times and for being YOU. ❤❤❤❤
I saw ZZ Top 3 times in the '70s, traveling 100s of miles sometimes to see them. They were one of my favorite bands. I am so impressed with your appreciation of them. Your old soul in a modern society is rare and much needed. Thank you from an old guy.
Jesus Just Left Chicago. My favorite. I've seen them four times in concert (before the passing of Dusty). I still remember 30 years ago when they were paired in concert with Lynyrd Skynyrd. :-)
I'm proud to have met billy gibbons in san Antonio while i was working as a wheelchair attendant. I was one of the closing guys and me and one other person were walking to a gate and saw a very short man with a very long beard. I was listening to zz top's "sharp dressed man" earlier and was singing to it and immediately saw it was one of the members. We both asked if we could get a picture, he said "no picture, autographs." Handed us both two zz top cards and promptly signed both of them for us. It was awesome.
This is a great live version, but Biss I hope you treat yourself to the original studio version from the 70s. Whatever vehicle you drive go out for a ride and crank it up as loud as you can handle it. Their youthful energy was amazing! Guaranteed goosebumps!
One of the greatest expressions I have ever heard about having great tenacity is "Hanging in there like a hair in a biscuit." Now, we have a visual of a hair in a Bisscute! You are so funny and cute - with or without a scrunchy beard. Glad you get ZZ Top. GREAT road music. The boys even did a little jazz. RIP Dusty...
My very first concert was in Lincoln, NE 1978. ZZ Top and warm-up band Triumph. Tickets $8. T-shirts $12 🤑🤑 On an interview with Dan Rather, when asked how he was doing, Billy said, "If I were any better, I'd be twins"😎 RIP Dusty Hill 😇
There are two ZZ Top songs that I played on stage in my band days. This is one of them, and I miss doing it. It was a fun and easy groove that always got people moving.
There is something to really appreciate from band members who are so familiar with a song that they have been doing for around (30-40 years at the time of filming) that they can basically play it blindfolded and yet able to read each other so well that they can just improvise on the fly (such as the pause) at the same time. With La Grange being one of ZZ Top's true "hits", being a fan favorite at every concert, constantly being requested at interviews, discussed countless times with other musicians on their shows/podcasts.... well, is there ANY wonder how Frank can bang those drums with an almost bored look, Dusty hanging back just chilling out before hitting you with the base-line and Billy taking his time with tempos and lyrics? In short, this is a performance where you see a band actually enjoying the time TOGETHER as friends more than musicians.
As a Spotlight Operator for live concerts and performances. I have had the privilege and pleasure of working for ZZTOP at least 6 to 8 times in the Hampton Roads area since the late 80's
Good morning Bisscutie! Always a treat to see you get into a song! Thankfully, you'll never have a beard. When ZZ Top first came out, they surprised everyone with how unique they were. Great guitars. One of their best songs.
"Stages" is my favorite and "rough boy. The album "afterburner was one of the first albums I bought at full cost from the record store, I bought afterburner, 5150 van Halen and ratt dancing undercover......
One of my all-time favorites by them. I bought Tres Hombres album in 1973. I've seen them several times in concert. The last time I saw them, they were with Lynyrd Skynyrd. That was a great night !
Saw them on night rock on Telly from RockPalast Germany in 78. It was series of conserts in 77/78/79. Zz Top, Patti Smith, Tom Petty, Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter et, etc. Whole lotta fun. 😎😈🇧🇻
I was in college when Tres Hombres was released. I picked up my guitar and played that album over and over until I could play every song on that wonderful album
These guys became one of my favorite bands in the early 70s. It's awesome that 50 years later they're still getting new fans like this young lady. Good choice, Biscute! You may want to check out Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers by them.
It was written by Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, whose lyrics are about the Chicken Ranch brothel located on the outskirts of the city of La Grange (Texas), from which it takes its name.
On my way out to Fort Bliss, Texas - I stopped in La Grange and blasted this as I drove through town.... then proceeded to get back on the highway. Memoriessss.
this is a great song! great reaction biss loved it! ggod vibes in this song great rhythm everything great! have a good day and much love 2 u and everybody!
Just got out of surgery an hour ago. Came across your vid and smiled all the way through it. Thank you so much pretty lady for the smile that I really needed.
My mother's family owned and operated a large farm about a mile from the Chicken Ranch. When I did my family's genealogy I wondered why my grandmother's brothers didn't get married until their 30's. When I realized the short distance between the two spots I realized why.
Biss-metal you are the best! Please let me address some of the comments from this video. I'm an "old person" (67), and when this came out, I was a sophomore in high school (16). I agree that these recent versions are not up to par with the originals and what you're hearing is a diminished version of their former selves. It's become a disappointing trend with older musicians. There is so much great music today (especially from Japan!) that I kinda cringe when I see bands within my age bracket try to recreate something that is (and should remain) a great memory. This is not to say reactors shouldn't check out older music - you absolutely should! However, the original sound, whether video or audio is so often much better. Love you! Thanks for all the great content! 🤘🤘
Anything from their '70s albums is cool 😎. Tres Hombres, Degüello, Fandango, Rio Grande Mud, Tejas, ZZ Top's First Album (that's the actual name of their first album). I don't know if you take unpaid suggestions, but here's some songs: * Cheap Sunglasses * Waitin' for the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago (must be played together) * I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide * Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers * Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings * Just Got Paid I've barely scratched the surface, but it's a start.
Saw ZZ Top twice about 10 years apart. This song turned into a jam session that lasted about 20 minutes. Actually, all songs they played lasted for about five minutes longer than the album version.
Great reaction! When the music video first started, I was thinking "should have done studio version" But, this was incredible! You should still listen to the studio version, if only on your own. Peace.
ZZ Top is the epitome of cool! They are such a great vibe!! Glad to see younger generations like yourself loving them! Great reaction Biss! R.I.P. Dusty Hill
I am envious of those who attended the live concerts of this monstrous band and who received that positive energy that these (guys) give by magically playing with simplicity and modesty their guitars supported by an excellent drummer. Many bands should take an example from them. With happiness therefore I toast with an Italian honey grappa 🌺
The clip is from a documentary about the band called *ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band From Texas*. Watch the whole thing if you get time! The history of ZZ Top (over 50 years of it) is every bit as entertaining as the guys themselves.😎🎶

If you want to slow it down, 'Rough Boy' off their Afterburner album, and see if you can hear the Depeche Mode influence...if you want an uptempo boogie that might bring about a blush or two, 'Tube Snake Boogie' and 'Pearl Necklace'...if you want a deeper bluesy sound, 'Just Got Paid' and 'Waitin on the Bus/Jesus just left Chicago', and then there is Billy's rendition of the rap song 'Gots to Get Paid'.
I don't pretend to know a lot about the band but i really do love there bluesy rock sound Gimme All Your Loving probably one of there most famous tracks still a great band to listen too.Great reaction Biss♥
Biss - those "haw haw haw" that Billy is singing are an homage to the great John Lee Hooker tune "Boom Boom" - also, Jimi Hendrix famously said in an old interview something along the lines of "there's this cat in Texas named Billy Gibbons who's gonna be huge"
They are definitely showing their age in this one. Their voices are not as powerful, but they still have the rhythm in their fingers that holds true. No beard for Biss, please. 🙃
You could check out songs from the Live From Daryl's House episodes. The idea is that Daryl Hall invites musicians to his place to play a few of their songs with the house band he has there. There are some great versions of many songs including this one, Footloose, Iris and tons of others. Kevin Bacon has visited there as well, did you know he's also a musician?
Saw them in concert about 10 years ago with Tom Petty & Heartbreakers. Fantastic concert! Bisscute, your made up beard looks more like a tie😂! I think you will like their song Tube Snake Boogie! 😊
Saw them many times in the 70's and after like 1975 they always played Lagrange and then TUSH as an exclamation point for the night. Least when I saw them.
Opinions about my beard ? I think its a 10/10
Not quite ZZ Top level - but that's a really high bar - so I have to give it a 9. 😀
