    An superb introduction to blackmagic's ATEM series. The fact your video was on the ATEM Mini gives one a clear and understandable description of how each of the inputs and outputs work. Clearly, more expensive modes have more input/output jacks; but, your simple explanation takes away much of the "fear factor." Your stated limitations was most helpful. If a feature is required, but not available, i.e., multiple displays; one can buy a more expensive model. In short: a beautiful explanation of the concepts involved! Thank you.

    I'm so glad you made an updated version, I was just talking to potential media members and directing them to your page to learn about the ATEM, they saw this video and then asked me what is OBS? Haha, so I guess you would have to include another OBS introduction to the updated versions as well. God bless you brother, love what you have done for our ministries.

    I like this new series (a walkthrough of the Atem mini-series) helps us to refresh everything. I would like you to make a point on the setup of the network (ethernet) which is a key in the system, you skipped it here but it is important to have it set right otherwise you may not see your Atem when needed (the software will say "no Atem found"). Also, some more details (if you have time) on how to connect cables (different options I mean). Yes, I like the series that will help a lot. Thank you, Ajay God bless you.

    Buy HDMI splitters. Split the HDMI cables coming from each camera: one split goes to the ATEM Mini, the other to a cheap multi-view that you already have or purchase. Run the multi-view output to a dedicated monitor. Run the ATEM'S HDMI output to your recording device - then loop that output to a second monitor. Works great.

    Another idea on power control, some surge protectors marketed as green/power-saving (e.g. APC P8GT) have master/slave outlet design. This might be helpful for a dedicated streaming/studio set up. You could connect a PC/laptop to the master outlet and devices such as an ATEM Mini and displays to slave outlets. When current draw on the master outlet drops below a manufacturer-specified threshold (e.g. PC/laptop is shutdown or hibernating), slave outlets are switched off and devices connected to the slave outlets are powered off. When current draw on the master outlet is above the threshold, slave outlets are switched on and devices connected to the slave outlets are powered on.

    I came across an old forum post where a Blackmagic Design employee wrote, "I checked with the ATEM product manager and ATEM is just a family name of switcher products. ATEM is based on the name of the Egyptian god, Atum."
    We could retroactively change it to something descriptive, perhaps _Advanced Transition and Effects Mixer_ ? I'm sure someone a little more creative than I can come up with a better backronym.

    • @AJaytheCEO

      What is your setup? To use the ATEM "as the processor" then the ATEM needs to be handling the stream. If you are using OBS or any other software to get the feed from the ATEM then the issue is your computer as mentioned. You need an ATEM Mini Pro or higher to offload all the work to the ATEM and you cannot use OBS, vmix or any software including streamyard

    Cumbersome and adding cost, but one could use four (or however many are needed) 1 in and 2 out splitters and use one of the outs from the splitter going to a monitor. That takes up space in your booth or control room and adds cost but it would be a solution.

    I cannot recommend this product, the ATEM mini series. The HDMI output has a history of failing. I bought a unit a year ago and the HDMI output had gone bad after a dozen or so uses. Then recently I bought another one. This brand new unit out of the box had the same problem after a single day - I sent it back to B&H this morning. Next, I was getting some equipment at a broadcast rental house in Tempe Arizona and my sales contact had an ATEM Mini on his desk with the same problem. To top it off, my video engineer had an ATEM Mini that was flickering on the HDMI yesterday - he told me these ATEM Minis are prone to this problem. I'm moving to another manufacturer, probably Roland. Not worth the risk using ATEM products. They will go down for sure.

      @@AJaytheCEO After reading all the reviews, I decided to purchase the Elvid switcher. I sent the ATEM back to B&H. I have a vendor whose ATEM had the same problem as mine and when I read reviews there are many others who experience the same issue. To be honest, I wish HDMI connectors would disappear entirely. They are not as good as SDI or even Display Port. I encourage the industry to abandon HDMI entirely. If all manufacturers converted to SDI we would not need converters and we could run longer cables. Laptop manufacturers could develop a mini SDI BNC that we would simply adapt to standard BNC.
      Okay ... I finished venting now.

    • @garrisonaw
      @garrisonaw 2 роки тому

      @@treffensaintjohnllc2913 there's already a micro-bnc connector that's only around 8mm wide - about half the size of a standard bnc connector. Even that's a bit bulky by laptop standards, but I haven't seen a coax connector any smaller that's reliable. That would be my main concern with switching over from hdmi to bnc. You'd just be exchanging one connector issue for another one.
