I'm interested to know how you have been using SuperSource and what sorts of things / events you've been using it for. It will really help me tailor some future SuperSource videos, so if you have 2 seconds spare, please let me know below ⬇️
Just started using it last week and use it in a church broadcast to show multiple angles - very basic hoping to learn more here and find better ways to use this - Thanks for your awesome videos
Hey, Just started using it 5 weeks for my weekly FM live radio show...with my new ATEM Mini Extreme ISO and QOR.32 is an Axia integrated console engine for my FM radio show...
Currently experimenting with the Extreme and hoping to use it for a basic virtual studio. The aim is, to create a kind of virtual exhibition stand with a stylish "desk", some product "exhibits" (possibly rotating) in the background, and the ability to switch between 2 or 3 camera angles - close up for product demonstrations, plus zoomed out with a large video "screen" for the presenter to talk against weather presenter style. It is for a work from home scenario and the objective is to create a feeling of a much more spacious area than the home worker may in fact be able to dedicate to the workspace. I am particularly interested in how the chroma key could be used in conjunction with the super source so I can key the presenter in front of some of the elements of the virtual studio but behind other elements. Anything you can add about using the Extreme / super source in a virtual studio scenario would be very gratefully received.
Dear Alex! I have been following you for more than a year now, and it´s clear that you're the #1 in teaching how to use the Black Magic Atem Mini products. From the Pro to Extreme ISO. Thank you. You're the example other "teachers" should follow and learn from. Thumbs up! And BTW, I enrolled the education you presented. Even payed the fee...!
Hey Lennart, really glad to hear you’ve found my videos useful so far! Also fantastic to hear you’ve signed up for Skillshare. Let me know what classes you take :)
8:06 you can put a supersource into another supersource (if your model has multiple of them) in order to get more boxes on the screen. Say you want to have a panel of 6 guests at a time in your presentation, but the ATEM SS only supports 4 boxes. Thus, you can make one SS with, say, 3 boxes, and then bring that into the second SS as an input with 3 other boxes and now you have 6 total. The ATEM Mini only has one SS, but the ATEM software is shared across the entire lineup (all the way up to the 8K Constellation), so there are a few quirks like this when your hardware is limited.
This is the best video I have seen for using Super Source. Every one of your tips are excellent. The one for saving macros is the best I have seen for that. Excellent work, much appreciated.
OMG....I have been tinkering with my recently purchased mini extreme (had it for a week and still getting familiar with it) and I have been looking everywhere to see how to set up PIP/SSRC backgrounds. All the videos I have seen do not show any custom background settings/changes. Thank you for this video and the macro cheat code. You just won a subscriber.
My Extreme ISO arrives today. Can not wait to try these SuperSource examples out. Thank you also for showing animation techniques. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Thank you so much Alex. You are officially the super source Hero. I have respect for all the people that help nerds like me in trying to work around this atem mini extreme. But you nailed, the best part is the simplest way you teach. Honestly is like a,b,c and 1,2,3. For the first time since I have the extreme I was able to use the macros, that along is huge. Now I can make my own layouts and have 6 different options to change them with the press of a button. Thanks again and God bless you.
Hey Alex! I totally love what you do for our community in terms of such brilliantly explained videos which are simple to understand, and at the same time useful to so many people in their daily life usage of the Atem Mini switchers. Keep these rockin' videos coming in! ~ Steph
I am subscribed!!!!. I just had a client ask for a looping background behind my supersource and I had no idea how to make that happen. Your section on looping videos behind the supersource just saved me!!!! Thanks man.
I have watched this video several times and it has helped me understand quite a bit. Moved up from a PRO ISO to the Extreme ISO today and I was able to hit the ground running. Cheers @Alex Pettitt
18:31 - This is the face of a guy who knows a secret he's about to share. Another great video. I'm looking forward to scheduling my first consulting session with you after I get my bearings with the equipment.
This is literally the best video on super source for the ATEM mini Extreme I've seen. There may be some older ones for the more expensive machines that I haven't found yet. That said most I've seen are you can do this and this then rush though a rough outline of how to do something similar. You actually explain how to do it in a very understandable way. I've been intrigued by Mix Effect and I really wish he'd port it to android. After seeing you use it here I'm actually tempted to buy an iPad and I despise Apple. LOL
Love it! Another great video Alex, thank you! I'm working with the Extreme ISO in a small restaurant/bar/live music venue and now you've got me thinking about how I could use this awesome feature. Hoping to record interviews with the musicians at some point to play during set break so that could be a possible use for me.
Amazing video! I've been learning how to use my ATEM Extreme and this answered so many questions for me, some of which I didn't know I had. The restore macro suggestion will save me so much anger and time!
Hey Vincent, this is a topic I'm hoping to cover in the near future! I've got a few methods that I use right now, but also want to show some new ones that are launching soon.
Another well informed and helpful video. I am new to video production and never heard of SuperSource. I was debating whether to get the Atem Mini Pro ISO and the Atem Mini Extreme ISO. With this feature, it is a huge benefit in spending the extra money to get the extreme. Thank you.
The easiest way to do with is to play them in on something like a hyperdeck or through and external player an bring them in to one of the ATEM Mini's HDMI inputs :)
Extremely Helpful. You mentioned a "Hyperdeck Player" in relation to the looped background (13:10). Is that the BlackMagic product referenced in your kit? Could you provide more detail? Do you have any suggestions for a cheaper way to provide a looping feed like that?
My apologies if you've mentioned this already, but how do you use the iPad as a source for the Atem Extreme? I'd love to get the MixEffect app on my iPad and use it with the Atem. Thank you for your clear and concise instructional videos. :)
Great instructional video. But how to you see the multi-view format on the monitor??? I can't seem to get this view up and running so I can see different camera angles at once.
Hello. Loved the video. But is there a way to key a box over another one? Specifically, a transparent graphic that I can move on screen with the joy stick (which I have not been able to find any instruction on.) I've done it before, but I forgot how. Thanks for your time. Take care.
Great video lesson Alex. Can the macros or modified PIP or customized Supersource layout be used and controlled from the ATEM with NO computer(and therefore no ATEM control) connected. eg can i set it up at home then take just the ATEM mini extreme and use 'my' customized layouts out in the field ? Thankyou
Great tutorial.. Thank you.. question: how do you get SuperSource to show on the program recording? All I see is a black box on the recorded file and not the supersource. Thanks again..
Thank you very much. I just upgraded my Atem Television To Atem constellation. This tutorial have helped me do supersource smoothly. The best part is your trick to create and save macro thank you very much. I am still straggling with proportionality of my supersource inputs. I have a two split supersource. I want to have main camera on one side and projector on the other. My projector and camera are 1080dp and they are two big for the half screen supersource. Cropping will loose some of my presentation. Is there a way to scale whole maintaining aspect ratio?
Great video, Alex. If I create a few macros and assign them to a few of my macro buttons on the ATEM , will they be stored in the ATEM Mini Extreme itself? Or will I need to have a separate computer still connected, running the ATEM Software Control app?
That was the most helpful video I know this is going to sound crazy but what level of iPad do I have to use and how do I connect my iPad to work like that to my ATM many extreme Pro
Thanks very much! As Mix Effect is using the network for control, it's doesn't have to be anything special. I'd say any iPad that's been released in the last few years should be fine :)
Great video. Very comprehensive. Personally, I would like to see a video that shows the steps involved in order to connect Supersource to Companion and Stream Deck. In particular, how to set up the Stream Deck buttons to switch between the Supersource layouts. If you can do this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot for another great video Alex! Question: I’m assuming the iPad that runs MixEffect must be on the same network as the Mini Extreme; can I use MixEffects and the Atem Software Control at the same time (so I can keep having my Streamdeck/Companion active to control Atem Macros?) also: I’m assuming I can still run other apps on the same iPad that is on air sometimes with my slides?
Yes, MixEffect and the ATEM switcher must be on the same network. You can run ATEM Software Control and MixEffect at the same time, but keep in mind that switchers generally have a limit on the number of controllers that can connect and control it (typically 5). So, if you have ASC, MixEffect, Companion, you'll have used 3 out of your 5 controllers. You can run other apps on your iPad, but it might disconnect if you background it and go to another app. If you plan to use Keynote/PPT to do slides, make sure the presentation software is in Split View on the left-hand side of the screen. That way, it will continue to output its slides over HDMI.
Oh man, this is gonna change things. One thing I'm curious about is if there are fast ways to switch which sources are routed to each of the boxes. Especially if you can queue it in a Preview/Program cut. Example: 4 shot in program with inputs 1-4, preview is input 5 in box one, with inputs 5-8 going to be used in boxes 1-4 in the next segment.
Hey @alexpettitt I appreciate this video. You are extremely thorough and well spoken. My question is this: When I went to record the second macro, using the directions you gave me, it replaced the first macro. And yes, I clicked the second box to do it. I automatically ran the first macro instead of the recorded second macro.
Superb video! BTW it seems you're using iPad Pro as one of your HDMI input. For some reason I can't get stable HDMI signal from my iPad Pro 11" M1 to Atem Mini. I've tried official Apple USB-C to HDMI and different cables but no difference. It always drops every now and then. HDMI output works perfectly for television and monitors but for some reason capture devices such as Atem Mini and Blackmagic Mini Recorder has problems... Any tip I should try?
Great Tutorial, I like to push the envelop and I hope you can help me. I need to create 3 different Super Source Macros in the Atem extreme and I need them to also cycle through after a set amount of time. How Would I create a Macro that would run the "other" super source Macros? thank you
UPDATE: I was able to accomplish the Task :) took a bit of learning but now my Super Source will switch from one Source to another depending on the "Pause" Time frame I assigned them. thanks
This was AMAZING!!! So many knowledge and tips and tricks 👏👏👏 only problem is I don't have a extreme I only have the atem mini pro iso. I wonder if anything like this could be done with pic in picture!? 🤔
3 роки тому
Amazing! Am actually using 3 separate macro functions for 3 green screen cameras, and I want to know if it is possible to link the Macro x3 in 3-Box supersource? 🙌🏻
Hey Alex. What do you recommend and/or use when you have multiple individuals joining remotely (they don't have ATEM's)? I have been using ECAMM Live but would prefer my ATEM Mini Extreme, especially when I start going back to on premise plus remote. Thanks! I am not sure if NDI would work with something like Skype to show multiple sources. Thanks!
Thank you very clear for me ! Just a question considering the "box" just behind your atem. What's this ? Is this use to "secure" the cables in the Atem ? Thank you very much for all your ATEM explainations really clear (even for a french not english fluent)
at 0:52 there is a pic of your atem mini extreme. what extension do you have behind it? so its your Logitech keyboard then the atem and then something else. looks like a HDMI docking station?
My input 1 is a camera showing me and it has a green screen which I can key out using Upstream key. My input 2 is my a wacom mobilestudio pro in which I show my presentations and write. Now I want a super source with the wacom input and my input 1 with the keyed out green screen. So, is it possible that I key out the green screen and use the result of it in showing my camera independently as well as in super source? I used to use this while using OBS but I want it to be by the atem extreme. Love your videos btw. They are awesome!
How did you set up your multiview with 12 cameras and only program? My ATEM only shows options to reconfigure 8 cameras and a large preview and large program window.
My biggest issue is how to bring in remote guest WITHOUT using something like Restream or Streamyard because I still want to use supersource and stream directly from my extreme ISO. I could even be willing to use those streaming services mentioned above like Restream or Streamyard as long as I can have one guest video per each HDMI input to make for seamless switching between guest
@@AlexPettitt Yeah I brought a streaming bridge for that reason and 1 others i just didnt like it for the reasons you stated . I just wish the had a way where a guest can just appear in web tab then I could just use that as a source just like any other item i wanted to share from my computer.
We just purchased an extreme iso and would be interested on some shots of how you have it connected on your desktop. What is the best way to manage all the cables coming into it? We will be using SDI converters for 4 inputs and that adds to the cabling. Thanks and great videos
@@AlexPettitt I’d love to watch a video with how you are handling cable management. It appears that you have some sort of cable clamp to hold things in place - an ATEM dock of some sort? What is that?
Hi Alex - you said that you created a looping background and were running it from a hyperdeck.....i've tried putting all sorts of file formats onto sd cards to replay from the hyperdeck...but it doesn't recognize them. Can you advise what file formats/codecs you can use to put clips/files into a hyperdeck for playback?
Really helpful thanks. Is it possible to have the videos within the supersource to have different chroma keys? For example two people talking, same physical green screen, two cameras (one for each person) however then select different backgrounds for each person and then supersource. I’m wanting to give the impression the two people are in different locations :). Thanks. .
Hey TTT, good question. I don’t think this is natively possible with the SuperSource as you can’t composite a chroma shot within the SS. The closest you could come to it is to create a background that has the two boxes with the different studio background and then use the two Upstream Keys to chroma key and then use the flying key to position the two people. I’ll have a bit of a play on my ATEM to see if there is a better way too :)
@@AlexPettitt - this is precisely how I use chroma key with SuperSource, via the flying key. It also gives one an additional bit of animation, if the flying key positions used in the layour are saved as A or B.
Hey and thanks for this great video ( one of the best i could find about ATEM on YT ! ) However my question sounds a bit stupid, is there a way to show in preview the macro or supersource layout every time we call it back ( by pressing the macro buttons for exemple ) , but in the way it won't come directly to the program, but to the preview, so we can check that all cameras are framed the right way etc.. I know we can have the small window in the multiview as you showed ( great tip ! ), but this is too small especially if your layout has 3 or 4 boxes ! Thank you so much in advance for takinf the time to read my question and keep posting !
You can configure the multiview in the extreme to allow a particular view to take up to 4 X the screen real estate - i.e.. is the the same size as the program preview. Obviously you then loose the screen real estate to use for other things but you can for e.g. have program out, preview and super source occupy 1/4 of the mulitview each and then split the 4th quarter into 4 for whatever else you might want to monitor. Also if you are not using the second HDMI for anything else I believe that you should be able to send the super source to the second HDMI. You can only have one multiview but a supersource on the 2nd HDMI would serve as a sort of cut down second multiview and solve you need to be able to see exactly what is in the super source before cutting to it.
Still Not sure if I should buy the pro iso or the extreme iso as I will only use it for recording and post production. I want to record multi camera angles and Screenrecording from the IPad. Greenscreen is present but this can also be done in postproduction… For the money I save buying the pro iso only, I could buy an used camera for my setup. Am I right or am I missing something In my mind. Is the iso pro still futureproof or should anyone needing the ISO better buy the extreme?
Using MixEffect, you kept the art layer as background? What would it do if you’d kept the foreground option? Is there a way to change the background or foreground using MixEffects presets?
MixEffect developer here. Presets cannot currently set the details of the SuperSource Art. You could, however, create a shortcut on iOS to dynamically change these details on the fly. Or you can use Companion and MixEffect to do it too.
Hey Alex, great video as always. I have a question, can SuperSource be used at the same time as the Chroma Keyer? I've been trying to bring in a video to sit within a frame of a background graphic and then load a chroma keyed output of a live presenter on top of it all using the ATEM Mini Pro ISO but the only way I could scale the video to sit in the right place over the background graphic (which I loaded into MP1) was to use a DVE/PIP but as this is in the same Upstream Key as the Chroma, it wouldn't work. I'm thinking that SuperSource might be the only way I can do it. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Alex, I’m using a camera with a chroma background. Is there any way to use that keyed camera in a supersource? Let’s say upper left keyed camera, lower right a zoom call on laptop.
I'm interested to know how you have been using SuperSource and what sorts of things / events you've been using it for. It will really help me tailor some future SuperSource videos, so if you have 2 seconds spare, please let me know below ⬇️

Nice. Super tutorial for super source. Unfortunately I don't get to play that game yet. I'm on ATEM Mini Pro at this time.
Very very helpful, thank you so much, gonna have to try it all out now. :)
Loved this. Very informative.
Great Tutorial, I like to push the envelop and I hope you can help me. I need to create 3 different Super Source Macros in the Atem extreme and I need them to also cycle through after a set amount of time. How Would I create a Macro that would run the "other" super source Macros? thank you
UPDATE: I was able to accomplish the Task :) took a bit of learning but now my Super Source will switch from one Source to another depending on the "Pause" Time frame I assigned them. thanks
Hey, im wondering if you ever made that video with looping background? Please share link. Thank you
This was AMAZING!!! So many knowledge and tips and tricks 👏👏👏 only problem is I don't have a extreme I only have the atem mini pro iso. I wonder if anything like this could be done with pic in picture!? 🤔
Amazing! Am actually using 3 separate macro functions for 3 green screen cameras, and I want to know if it is possible to link the Macro x3 in 3-Box supersource? 🙌🏻
Excellent information. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this sharing.
So clear for all tips!
Gracias por el video! TEngo una duda, sabes ¿cómo puedo conectar 3 Osmo Pocket al Atem Mini Stream Iso? Ayúdame!
Thanks!
Hi Alex great to see your back & with a great lesson many thanks for what you just showed us CHEERS MATE.
My pleasure! Cheers for the lovey comment Tony!
How would you have 4 different people if they are all in different places?
Thank you very clear for me ! Just a question considering the "box" just behind your atem. What's this ? Is this use to "secure" the cables in the Atem ? Thank you very much for all your ATEM explainations really clear (even for a french not english fluent)
at 0:52 there is a pic of your atem mini extreme. what extension do you have behind it? so its your Logitech keyboard then the atem and then something else. looks like a HDMI docking station?
Bonjour
J'ai un problème de son comment enlève-ton les grésillement ? Merci
Damn bro!! Super helpful! Thank you so Much! You rock! 💖
Really glad to hear you found it useful Christoffer 🔥
@@AlexPettitt yeah!!!
Thx for this tips :) it took some time, but always worth it. Do you know some app like mix effect for Android/windows?
I find your tutorials among the best. Very straight forward, informative and succinct.
Thanks!
ps Haircut!
Thanks so much Dave, I really appreciate it! And yep, it was getting so long, so had to get rid :)
I wonder what that davinci resolve project file would look like if you did an ISO recording while using the ipad app to animate SS layouts.
How did you set up your multiview with 12 cameras and only program? My ATEM only shows options to reconfigure 8 cameras and a large preview and large program window.
Question;
What video camera are you using to shoot this pod cast ? It looks fantastic.
Thanks very much! This is shot on the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro :)
@@AlexPettitt thanks
My biggest issue is how to bring in remote guest WITHOUT using something like Restream or Streamyard because I still want to use supersource and stream directly from my extreme ISO.
I could even be willing to use those streaming services mentioned above like Restream or Streamyard as long as I can have one guest video per each HDMI input to make for seamless switching between guest
This is where things like the ATEM Streaming Bridge are used :) But the guest needs to have an ATEM Mini on their end
@@AlexPettitt Yeah I brought a streaming bridge for that reason and 1 others i just didnt like it for the reasons you stated .
I just wish the had a way where a guest can just appear in web tab then I could just use that as a source just like any other item i wanted to share from my computer.
Insane. Great video
We just purchased an extreme iso and would be interested on some shots of how you have it connected on your desktop. What is the best way to manage all the cables coming into it? We will be using SDI converters for 4 inputs and that adds to the cabling. Thanks and great videos
Great suggestion! I've thought about doing a cable management / studio tour before, so I'll put it on my list for sure :)
Hi May I ask how is the iPad is connect to the ATEM and control it for this app to work
Does the Hollyland Wireless HDMI Keep or Break the BlackMagic camera controls from ATEM Software Interface ??
This video was so helpful, thank you! Have you come across an Android alternative to MixEffect for animating supersource?
Alex: I am new to ATEM Extreme. Could you explain how to combine a media file photo and a live green screen camera shot into a Super Source box.
Brilliant with the macros. I love it!
Thanks Dan 👍
Alex, I've cited you in my video about my home studio for online teaching. Thanks for the inspiration! Go to 15m30s.
Very helpful video, excellent job!
