    Wtf? Hater much? This is this and this is that. Lmao. I have one with 100,000 on it. Runs like the day it as bought. Paint looks brand new. Not a speck of rust under it. And I live literally a few blocks from the ocean and Bay. Take care of your car and it will take care of you. Nothing is falling apart on mine like this one. And they're great passing cars. Nice jump to them. Honestly I think their underrated. Especially if you can steal one for a great price which is possible if you don't go to a dealer. You wouldn't believe what I got mine for. I want a 2005 or 2006 GTO so much. It will eventually be my next car. The true definition of underrated and you don't see many which is great. Pull up in that sleeper with 400hp under the hood. Man I love that shit.

      my 2000 grand am GT has just over 200k but it's on its second engine. dont know how many miles this new engine has. it's a 3100 though which i found odd because all the grand ams have the 3400 in them. does anybody know the difference between them

      @martinez1701a 7 років тому

      Soul Of Pecikonis I'm on my second grand am its a 2001 the last one was a 99 but I rebuild these 3400 and after updated gaskets especially the LIM gasket they run forever, unfortunately my 99 was totaled in a rear end Collision waiting at a red light and now I have to start all over im thinking of a cammed 3400 with a 3500 top end and full exhaust.

    • @martinez1701a
      @martinez1701a 7 років тому

      Cars and tech the 3100 is a 3.1L the 3400 is 3.4L they share the same design but I think the 3100 is rated 20hp less than the 3400, 3100 were usually found in Malibu's and base grand prix someone got cheap when they swapped your engine 99-05 came only with the 3.4 v6 or 2.2 4cyl.

    Headgasket munching? My friend you are a bit confused. The 3100 is the headgasket muncher, the 3400 is an excellent motor, a friend of mine has a 99 Grand Am SE that he bought brand new and its got 325k miles on it now, these cars are actually very good cars mechanically if you take care of them, people dont appreciate these things as much as they deserve.

    • @briand2195
      @briand2195 4 роки тому

      Neither munched headgaskets, thats a bit of a misnomer. Both however did eat through the lower intake manifold gaskets. The original, I believe it was AC Delco, hard plastic gaskets with orange silicone linings around all the ports were the issue. Granted the 3100s were seemimgly more susceptible both used those junk gaskets. I've worked on plenty of these motors and never once was it a headgasket. But it was extremely common for mechanics to assume it was the heads since they gave the exact same symptoms. Both Mahle and Felpro make MLS lower intake manifold gaskets for the 3100 and 3400 which is much better designed and is better able to cope. Two ways you can instantly tell it's not the heads is run a compression test, compression will be unaffected by the intake gasket, but a head will leak compression. Secondly when get down to the point you pull the Rocker arms and pushrods to remove the gasket you'll almost certainly see the silicone guides are compressed or otherwise damaged and no longer able to provide a proper seal.

      I have a 2004 with the 3.4 18 year old car engine never had the gaskets replaced no leaks of oil or gas still runs great. I think most people complaining were the ones that didn’t really do maintenance and give the engine a bad name. These are solid engines they are basic push rod engines they should be able too last forever.

    I had the 1999 4 banger, first year they introduced this car. Was my first car, second owner in 2002. It was inexpensive with low milage. It had its issues... Transmission rebuild (last week of warranty covered), drivers side window motor replacement, new alternator. Drivers side visor snapped holder snapped and kept dropping till I drove a screw through the side for it to clip on too. Replaced one of those low reverse lights after the seals broke and it filled with water.
    In spite of these issues, it was my first car and I have a soft spot. Traded it in 3 years later for something way nicer, but was still sad.

ALL BLACK, well....charcoal interior. It was by far the best one ever made. I put a 5000 $ stereo in it and exhaust too. It was two giant tip and it rumbled GREAT. the car was pretty fast too. From what i heard they only made 100 in black 100 white and 100 in red. Bought with only 3 miles on it and sold it with low 20 thousand miles. It was cherry when i sold it for a pick up truck. So you just bought this same car?
    Heres a honest review. From 30-70mph, it's really good. Takes awhile to get going under 30mph. Gas millage is decent. I fill my tank up once a week usually and i travel a good amount. Trunk space is massive. Back seats are a little cramped. You have little to no blind spots if you move your mirrors correctly. Paint holds up. Hand wash to keep it going or if your hood is rocked up like mine. just do normal drive through car wash. Leather holds up but it gets EXTREMELY cold and hot. As well as steering wheel. Dashboard was fine when i got it, now starting to warp. Handling is very smooth and easy. Comes to a stop pretty quick. Random fact. Frost makes a unique x pattern on the hood. Headlights aren't the best. Utilize your fog lights. My lights ALWAYS get a leak and they're terrible to fix. What else? OH, make sure to get good tires. I love Coopers on mine. If you get cheap tires or sport tires. It won't handle as well. I recommend any Cooper, firestone, whatever. Big brands and get all season. No other tire. if you get the sport. you go fast but you swim and skate. All season handles turns, weather, stopping with ease. That is very important because with the wrong tires. It's pretty below average in bad weather. I've had several problems with the car, nothing major. The egr valve has been my main issue. I'm no mechanic but my egr valve was faulty a lot because no mechanic cleaned the pipes or whatever to it. As for the gasket, my baby is running fine. Most problems occur are not going to effect the performance. I change oil and all other fluids normally but it LOVES windshield wiper fluid and also, for some reason, i can't fine decent wipers even thou i've bought different brand. probably my luck lol but overall, really easy to find parts and info and only a tad more expensive than working on say, ur Accord or Camry. Lets see. I think i covered the bases. Any questions? feel free to ask. i normally don't see replies but i've put about 40K on mine and it's been a great journey
    Edit the car is loud, the exhaust mainly. Nothing crazy and inside is quiet until youre above 60mph and then it gets very windy, like theres a window or door open. Nothing crazy though

      Hi I have a 2004 SE model with the V6 I got used at 139,000 and now has 178,000 so I roughly put 40,000 on mine too. Um I had to fix more things then most be willing to fix but I like these cars so dumping some cash into it is okay for me. I’ve had no issues with the engine or transmission the engine still running on the original head gaskets no issues no leaks of any oil or any fluids the car is a great winter driver with proper tires and the low gear selections are great for hills the car engine brakes nice. The torque on this thing is amazing once above 40 the car can take off with a slight press of the accelerator. My dash has worked a bit on the driver side nothing too bad just recently had to get the ac fixed there was no leaks just a bad orifice tube I was told. The car is really dated by today’s time inside but the outside still got that cool design especially if you got a spoiler completes the car and the big headlights attract you to its front end. I don’t like the SE front bumper the GT bumper is better in my opinion. I do like how simple the car is physical buttons easy to use no touchscreen crap I hate that stuff no Bluetooth on the radio but CD player works fine for me. They just don’t make cars like this anymore it’s just fun to drive this car just the way it handles and how it was built it’s got a fun driving feeling too it.

    I have the Pontiac Montana, which one could say is like a Grand Am GT with larger body on it, since it's got the same 3400 V6 engine in it, and the van has treated me pretty well, relatively trouble free.
    The earlier generation ( early 90's ) Grand Am started out as J body, like the Cavalier, Sunbird, etc. but later on the Grand Am changed to N body.
    I do see likenesses with the N body, W body, also the U body, at the very least.
    The 3.1 MPFI engine used in the 2nd Generation Cavalier is a similar engine to the 3400 engine that the Grand Am Gt has.
    The 1999 Malibu has the 3100 V6 which is the newer version of the 3.1 the cavalier had, but the 3100
    and the 3400 is almost the same, ( seems the 3400 was based off from the 3100 ( Later generation 3.1 V6 ).
    3400 V6 motor used in many cars from late 90's to about year 2005 or so.
    Automatic transmission.
    Rims will interchange from pontiacs and chevys of that has the rims with 5x115 bolt pattern.
    Wheel bearing and hubs will fit 5X115 rims.

    not to be a knit picker..... but a the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof; The sunroof open on top of the cars roof, a moon roof slides into the car's roof.
    In other news.... I just bought a 03 Grand Am GT Ram Air V6 Coupe in cherry red for $500 has a severe overheating problem and last owner ran it hot so heads are warped, needs new head gasket, thermostat is stuck closed, instrument cluster doesn't work. But it can drive a good 10-15miles before it needs to sit for 30min and cooldown.
    Radiator fans wont turn on, so neighbor added a direct line to the battery for now until I can figure out what's going on with that. Also going to have to redo the exhaust manifold as the last owner messed it up pretty bad, I can see a gasket or something hanging halfway in the way between the manifold and engine; and using hose clamps to hold overly long bolts in place on the manifold.
    I'm a Honda guy, never owned a Pontiac never worked on one; but I know it's all fucked up. lol

      When passing someone on the highway you’ll be in 4th gear and in the city you’ll probably never hit 4th gear so you be in 3rd but I believe the transmission TCM detects the driver putting a load on the engine and will automatically shift down to second that’s why on the highway it feels good when passing people.

I saw plenty of videos but had no reason to click it. theres pro ways and tricks to do it. the guy in this video is pretty knowledgeable butttt this car is in terrible condition. I have no warp, no fading of the switches, no problen with the squeaky things, no missing trims , nothing. if this car is taking care of, they last decades. its a reliable fast car. also the warping is worse in florida then ny(im assuming) but honestly the warping doesnt affect the car at all

      The dash problem is from the sun try to park in shaded areas or buy a window shad and put up on your dash when parked. It’s because the material is soft and softness warps it’s nice to touch but dosnt hold up if it’s in constant sun all the time

    I have a read 2 door with the chrome-clad wheels.I like it, but the gasket is leaking a bit @ less than 80,000 miles on the clock.
    I had a magnaflow muffler put on it, sounds even better now. If you ever drive on snow and ice I would recommend just turning the traction control off. It does sound cool when it limits power though. Rather than just cutting out it sounds like a drag car with 2 step about to launch. Pretty funny.

    Well, it greatly depends on where you live, this was in FL. It's easy to find most GM cars of 90's & early 2000s with these issues heck even in 2010 Tahoe's with cracking dashboards which GM has yet recalled nor other makers from Toyota, Lexus, Infiniti, Kia, to most recently Jaguar. Owners have their responsibilities but they can't take full blame for unavoidable scenarios & for an interior which otherwise could've been better made. If yours is flawless, just enjoy your car & cheers :P

      Bro I used to work at a Chrysler dealership no one that has ever recalled interior pieces unless it had something to do with an airbag module but insofar as a dash cracking the or a center console plastic piece cracking or seats at airing that's on the person that owns the car and keeping it out of the Sun and keeping it clean and Mike using Meguiars leather polish or mother's stuff like that and not using armor Halo armor all has alcohol in it and it literally makes your dashes crack but they don't want to tell anybody that so that's why I sometimes you find dashes in the stuff that are cracked and find them that are cracked because the ones that are cracked or ones that people never used armor-all on and the ones that are cracked are ones that people used to rub down all the time with Armor All because my dad literally had a some Moroso drag special tires on his drag car the left one dry-rotted and he put armor all on it 3 times taking it to a car show in Columbus one year in the next spring we got ready to go raising the tire was dry rotted and it was never ever in the weather it was never in the rain or the snow so there was and it was never in the sun except for when we were at the dragstrip so there was no reason for it to dry rot that's how bad Armor All Is

    What are your opinions on the 3.8 in the grand prix?

    • @theroyalcrownedtiger2946
      @theroyalcrownedtiger2946 4 роки тому

      Very Durable Engine the 3.8 V6 that came in the Grand Prix.
      If you can get one, try to get the Grand Prix GTP, Supercharged 3.8 V6 from factory.
      The only issues is the head gasket and intake manifold valley gaskets, I would look into using copper head gaskets, not sure if copper gaskets are available for the intake, but you could use the Felpro gaskets if had to, just make sure to drain and flush all the Dexcool Orange coolant ( which I call Dexkill ) you can safely use the Green Ethlene Glycol ( Regular Coolant ) or Universal Coolant ( Prestone Yellow Bottle with either blue or black cap ).
      The Pontiac Montana is a rebadged Pontiac Trans Sport, and when it was called Trans Sport,it had the green coolant in it (seen it with my own eyes ).
      The prestone yellow bottle coolant ( blue and black cap ) is light greenish / yellowish in color.
      The Dexcool was suppose to be a better coolant for GM cars, but turned out to be worse than the green ethlene glycol coolant.
      The high acidic contents in the Dexcool ate the head and intake gaskets materials, along with bad quality paper gaskets used at the time, causing leaks.
      With the green antifreeze, just have to change it more often to keep things all good, but works well, and it's also lower priced than the dexcool.
      Or you could just pour in the Prestone universal coolant, as I remembered as a extended life coolant.
      Aside from the leakage aspects, the 3800 is extremely durable motor.

    • @theroyalcrownedtiger2946
      @theroyalcrownedtiger2946 4 роки тому

      The Supercharged Grand Prix GTP, it's very powerful and very fast for it's time, way back then.
      ( I remembered it came with quad exhaust from factory ) GM did this much before the asian competitors did the factory quad exhaust setup on their passenger cars.
      The Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, Mitsubishi 3000GT Twin Turbo, they had the quad exhaust setup from factory, but they are sports cars, not the common 4 door car.
      The cars that would have had the quad exhaust setup from factory would be high end cars, Cadillac, Lincoln, Corvette, Mustang SVT Cobra R, Mustang Saleen etc. Viper, Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren F1, etc.

    I've told my wife many times that if he ever bought a brand new car straight from the factory of which cost over a hundred thousand dollars and of which has everything on it of which you would find on a car sold at a Barrett-Jackson auto auction including a ten thousand dollar paint job my neighbor would find an unlimited number of faults with it and do nothing but complain about it and everything else of which is on it for the next ten years.
