My budgie is so smart that when I start to back him up in his cage, he immediately looks behind and flies off. I only tried the back-up-into-cage -door trick a few times and he already knows when I'm doing it.
We bought a young male Budgie a month ago and named him, Pecks--as in Musclebound. Taking your advice to wait awhile before tying to handle him was the trick. He's isn't alone since he lives, and is friends with Munchies our Lovebird. But last night, while dark, we scooped him up and spent 15 mintues petting and cooing to him then put him back in his cage. This morning Pecks is flying amuck! He's repeatedly landed on my head and shoulders, happily chirping away. Thank you kindly for your expert advice. You may think they are not drinking for the first week or so, but they are. They are drinking when you are not around because they dont trust you yet, same may go for food, change water and food bowls every day, make sure they can fly in their cage, over crowding the cage with toys can make it so they cant fly to different perches,, instead get lots of toys ,but only put a few in at a time, and switch them out every once in a while.
