- In this video, I met up with a subscriber to teach him how to catch grouper and snapper on the Skyway fishing pier. I met up with Richard and we discussed everything from tides, tackle, gear, and fishing techniques. We did struggle early on catching grouper baits but Richard did get a couple of hits before we transitioned to snapper and mackerel fishing. Even though it's HOT, the bite is good. Try cut up pices of gulp in place of the shrimp and squid for the pins and pigfish. It works great.

Found that if you use procure shrimp scent or fish bites shrimp on a sabiki, it works great in a pinch for getting bait.

One thing I know about fishing everyone got the own way of doing it what works for you might not wrk for the next man. But great video my brother.

Great video. I hate paying $5-6 per dozen for shrimp and bait shop frozen is a crap shoot... so, I’ve started salting my own shrimp and clams.
Tide charts have been way off recently. At one of my redfish spots that is only good on the outgoing tide the tide turned a full 3 hours late the last two times out.
Last Friday night at the skyway it was off by 2 hours. No clue how they have been so off?
They seem to always be off now. Not sure what is up.
Joshua Taylor it seems like everything on Tampa Bay is off by about 2 1/2 hours per what everyone us sayings. Gandy beach Thursday was off 3 1/2 when I went out. 2020 is so wacky.

Even the Publix west of US-1 have frozen shrimp down here in south Florida.
This is why I always catch my bait before getting out there its one of the hardest parts about the skyway for me
You just need a good net, some guy let me borrow his 10ft and caught all the bait I needed
Also to let you know were only in tarpon springs and this would a dream come true for him and ofcourse he has all the tackle he needs so u know

All depends on the rock pile. typically 25 yards or more.

Great video for what you need on Skyway Pier you asked if there was anything you left out the only thing would be a very light rod and reel for catching sailor's choice and Bait fish of that nature that you wouldn't necessarily catch in your net otherwise it was all covered

It’s easier to put on the smallest hook you can find and put some split shots on with the bait sometimes the sabiki doesn’t work well
I helped build the reefs off the skyway bridge if you look over the edge at the piln they will be a number painted on the pil about 50 ft off the bridge they'll be a reef
Was wondering, what do you do when you get hung up, with 100 lb leader, and 80 lb braid, cut the line, try to break it, or what.
I never cut the line, you pull and break it. 💪

if the bait stores are out of shrimp or frozen shrimp you can always get Frozen shrimp from Publix

Appreciate you watching. Get something with an adequate drag of 30lbs or more if you can. I like a nice heavy St. Croix

For me the GT knot is much easier to tie, smaller and just as strong if not more so.
