A solution for that whole "people might not see there are other mission types", would be to either:
- show them all in the list, but grey out the not unlocked ones
- scrap the list element, and make this selection proper front and center part. It is a choice at least on par with the character, so it should have comparable UI.

Whenever he plays a turn based game I rage cause when it's simple he surely makes sure it's not.

You might think that but I once bought a game because it looked so simple when he played it. Apparently he's much better than I at timing things.

Do hope they also bring in different invaders too. The board game has 3 races that can invade, your generic alien race, your carnomorphs IE dead space encounter, and then the psychic space eldritch horror monsters.
Each race changes the basic rules and way to go about things, for instance the carnomorphs get stronger when people die but you also get mutations as the game continues to help and hinder. the psychic horror race is about fear delusion and whats real and not.
8:55 is so commical. Looking around to make shure "big brother" cant see, kick this little bug quickly, and then like "It's not me"

They need to make a VR version so I can play it one time and then only talk about how I'm too scared to play it ever again.

The thing that gets me about this game (and Alien: Isolation) is that the alien is blind, so it reacts to sound. That little detector thingy is then going to be a dinner bell leading it right to you.
Animals pay a lot of attention to stimuli and associate things together extremely quickly. Predator animals even more so since if they decide wrong, they don't eat. You can train a dog to sit in a few minutes with some food. It would take once, maybe twice for the xeno to associate the detector's incessant beeps with your tasty meaty bits. It should be a flashy light where the flashes correspond to closeness. Easy swap.
The alien in Alien isolation isn't blind though, it can see you perfectly well. Fantastic game.
The curse of metaprogression
It's cool to see a more action based variant, that work just as well. In this case too, it looks better with friends than in solo. One thing's for sure, the team really nailed the atmosphere, it just works.
It's really cool that they made the jump from a less interactive gameplay (isometric view), to this more engaging style. Kudos.
flashbangs likely always was my second choice, if i was fighting a blind alien.

Game looks very interesting, however completely balanced & oriented towards multiplayer. Being a single player myself, i think ill pass.

I wonder if they considered players learning the (single) ship layout over the course of multiple plays more of a feature than a flaw. If you think about it, players knowing the way around their own ship is more thematic than players fumbling around trying to figure out where things are located. The game seems challenging enough without the need to add "getting lost" to the equation.
Let's face it Splat could get lost in a broom closet on some days. heh.

Nemesis is probably the best fucking board game I've ever played.
When you said "board game'" I was like , "NOOOOOOOO!!!" But then you said "first-person shooter" and I was like, "Whew!"

If they can add a ton of other features and periodically come out with new maps that have their own unique twists, this game could be amazing.
Gameplay loop looks barebones, and the larger alien is not threatening at all. >.

Wow, I had never heard of this game before and saw the cover while browsing a pirate site and felt like checking it out.
I have 100% sure the dev had inspiration from Duke Nuke 3D when making that kick, it bring me memories of smashing enemies using the size reducing gun

It is. I got Distress for free because I backed the board game all in. It feels like the Alien movies.
It's excellent. I haven't played the expansion yet (Lockdown) but the original game is loads of fun, if you don't mind playing a game that will mercilessly kick you in the balls with no-win situations sometimes. Personally I love that sort of punishing randomness.
@@superfinalcountdown1 Yup, there's 2 video game adaptations now, but both of them aren't exact copies of the board game versions. On tabletop simulator though you can play the original Nemesis, the Aftermath Expansion and the Lockdown Expansion and even mix the elements of them together. There's mods that also automatically set up the board for you (randomizing any RNG necessary) to save time. So I highly recommend playing it on Tabletop Sim.

I’ve played a version like you mentioned. It completely sets up the game for you and all the player seats too. It takes care of all the finicky events and things like that. Can’t recommend it enough.
This is based on the Nemesis board game. I own it and it's glorious.
I love the idea of this, hopefully they are able to polish it up and make it a smooth tight experience

When that alien first showed up I thought it had like derpy pac man face or something. Didn't notice it was more of a... stranger things mouth until the second one came after you. Lol

This game is probably a blast with 2 or 3 friends , phasmophobia style.

Looks like they made a special kind of alien for this, rather than the standard intruders. That's neat.
There is kind of a built-in player base. If you were part of the Kickstarter campaign, you got a code. I thought it was just a beta key, but it appears to have turned into a full game key.
The bug indeed did not want to be gushed.

I'd sum it up as a Multiplayer Aliens Isolation with a little Nemesis mixed in. It doesn't follow most rules of the board game, so it's definitely a loose adaptation.
As someone who plays GTFO, it has like no gameplay similarities outside of being sci-fi horror.

Half-way between this and the current Warframe is how I imagined and wished Warframe to be a couple of years back :T (When it had a darker atmosphere and not as much shininess and light everywhere.)

I'm pretty sure he was going to say not to put a huge emphasis on loot. It basically just acts as extra xp at the end of the match.

One cool feature could be that if you have an alien embryo inside you then you'll slowly dying but the alien is not activelly hunting you. And if you die then you'll play as an alien if the game is multiplayer
you would have to have a mechanic for being able to hide your status otherwise your team will just murder you.
This is quite an atmospheric game... that you can't hear at all because of the audio setup.

I think it's also difficult to find global sessions, as this is a board game adaptation and many people have fixed groups for board gaming. I bought it because I love the board game and mainly play with friends (my board game group) or alone. So if you don't have that circle of people who like the game and regularly play it with you, it might, in general, feel more frustrating to get started. That also leads to the fact that I don't see some animation/graphics aspects, which were mentioned, that negatively. I agree that, hopefully, more variety will be added to the ship layout for the content. I also liked the original intruder design much better. This looks a little like a flower on crack...

I tend to avoid co-op games single player , single player games need to be designed for that

I saw it was a 65 on steam but, since it is early access I would like to think they will fix that by adding a few more methods of fighting off the alien in question (Alien Isolation had Fire Bombs and Pipe Bombs) and maybe improve some of the graphics (the graphics for the alpha demo looked real rough)? If they got Nemesis Lockdown (the turn based top down version) at a 77 on steam then I can imagine they can get Distress at a 75 eventually
EDIT: I noticed this is a different Dev team but, given it is Awaken Studios publishing this game just like Lockdown then there shouldn't be any problems per say ( I have my fingers crossed for something good happening)....... this will get interesting

I saw some streamers playing this, but I guess that is where I will leave this one...
Imagine an "Among us" twist: in a 3+ multiplayer session one of the players receives a private mission to get some item and/or deactivate the pods /escape alone with the item / kill the others.
So this game is basically multiplayer Alien: Isolation?

Why do games these days so often become increasingly easier the more you play them, via unlocking easier starts? Why must so much content be locked away anyhow? Is my only real motivation to play the game to unlock its full content?
After playing Lockdown online for the past 2 weeks, I think this game just falls off in every way. I can imagine players trying this one out for a short time, then just going back to the boardgame adaptaion that actually works and is far more immersive, even now in EA stage.

The multiplayer puts me off and im over alien style games.
Another game with a pointless hero system. Just do custom chars it makes the rpg side of things actually make sense as your char grows rather than arbitrarily better hero chars noone has any personal connection too. Gonna pass on this one cuz i see hero systems as toxic laziness in the industry and i refuse to give money to that

It's totally possible to play solo and beat every type of mission. (I've done it) It's just a lot easier and quicker if you have friends who can help you to do the objectives. That said, there's not much content here yet, only one map type, all the classes feel meh (only the guy who starts with Crowbar is all that great, even then you could just find a crowbar) But for $12 it's good time for like a week or so.
@@nokturnallex2160 I'm a singleplayer guy and this game is targeted for multiplayer guys so I just added it to my ignore list. There are many better games in my backlog that are more worth of my time than to play multiplayer game in singleplayer :)

But it seems in this one, nobody has heard of backpacks! Carrying the data pod in two hands and being unable to defend oneself seems a little odd...
