How good was Fábio Coentrão actually? #GOAT
New video about one of the most controversial and naturally talented players we've seen over the 2010's in football. In this episode we take on Fábio Coentrão who played for Benfica, Sporting, Real Madrid, Rio Ave and Nacional da Madeira for most of his career. - Спорт
Hey quick story I thought you guys would enjoy: I actually lived in Póvoa de Varzim for a great part of my life, right by Caxinas and Coentrão was my neighbour (2 buildings to the left) for a few years. I saw him in his balcony all the time and most of the time he parked his dark grey Ferrari California in front of the building, I love cars so I was always in awe of it. Once during a local celebration, he even came out to the balcony to greet the people and everyone chanted his name. That region is very talented, Bruno Alves lived in that same street as well, alongside his brothers and father who were also pros. He was really nice and I even asked him for his autograph once. And Luis Neto who played at Zenit lived in the same building as me for a bit. Helder Postiga is also from that region supposedly but I never saw him.
awesome!
My father was born and raised in Caxinas, he is distant cousins with coentrao, what is your last name? Maybe we are related haha
You should show this video to Coentrao
You can try to do video on Raiola
I recently asked about his where abouts
Many footballers after retiring they get depression because all their life they were been train and brainwash that they were born to do that for their rest of their life. Coentrao on the other hand found peace by going back to his roots and where he came from :)
The little things are the ones that make us happy
But if you love football it doesn't matter
@@jakearrow8047 yes, but football is like relationships, there has to be involment in both sides
U sound depressed bro….
If u love football it doesn't matter
Coentrao is actually one of my favourite Mourinho signings in Madrid, I also remember him playing exceptionally well in Euro 2012. Definitely very underrated and a key player of Real stopping Barca's dominance.
Lies again? Serie A Leader
Whaaaaat? He was really good in Euro 2012 and that’s all. Nothing else.
Agree !! You have to play close attention to the game to realize that !!
@@Peachlifeproduction he benched marcelo for some time.
@@Peachlifeproduction keyplayer in Benfica. Good at real, and really benched Marcelo for a while, him and Ronaldo had good chemistry and keyplayer in euro 2012.
He was a fisherman before football, he just retired football and went back to doing what he loves the most
not really a fisherman he owns it thats all way different
@@cezariuszreginia5300 no ! He is from a fisherman family.
@@NoTengoIlusiones he is from Tuna family😂😂😂
That is what the video said, thanks for restating the obvious.

Just the other day i was wondering where Fabio had disappeared to… Thank you for this!
He was a warrior, loved him!
same, man!
*He is
True , few weeks back I saw the Real Madrid La Decima squad and thght yo where's Coentrao now. I thght he was still playing in the Portugese league
So wholesome, rarely you see people reach such heights yet keep themselves so humble and grounded. Now he’s back helping the community that raised him, beautiful.
The opposite of the american ideal, where greedy degenerates are worshipped only because they are 'rIcH aS F¥Ck' and famous. People like Andrew Tate etc.
There is also a player that became monk, Roa.
his huge smile being a fisherman says it all.
I am very happy for him.
How about the look of the Fishes?
@@CuriousConnoisseurs it has to suck being a fish

He was a brilliant left back in Madrid, was really wondering his life after Madrid
I saw him in fifa 19 that’s all
And one of the most important player under mourinho
@@harithdanial141 lmao no...
@@rumwhiskeyteq8227 he was great had Marcelo Bench
@@rumwhiskeyteq8227 he was good dude you must have hardly watched him play
Him being a fisherman makes me respect him more, gotta love the character of someone who's wealthy enough to never have to work another day in his life but who decides to spend his days working hard labor with his hands just because he wants to do something for people
Nice comment. It really shows a good character and humility.
Does he do the 40 hours though?
@@zoomgallygally does it really matter
@@zoomgallygally Fishermen do way more than 40 hours in many cases, days at a time sometimes. Im assuming he doesnt do nearly as much as fishermen who are desperate, and thats ok.
Fabio coentrao arguably one of real Madrid’s best left backs in history he really did play beautiful futbol he was a solid player he was so good during that champions league campaign pocketing Robben , he was good at attacking Nd was great at defending I miss him playing in Madrid I always loved seeing him play
Coentrão was such a talent, I loved watching him play for Portugal.
Would have loved to have him at Chelsea. He was a brilliant player. Satisfying to know that he is happy and doing well.

I am a 73 year Canadian who fell in love with soccer after discovering your videos on UA-cam! I love your storytelling, but most of all. I love the compassion with which you tell these stories. When I am having a sad day, I rewatch all of Messi's (yours) videos!!! Thank you!
that's incredible man. You really didn't care much for football before the channel?
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT wtf is this question ❓
@@kitonaga3699 I was just impressed that i managed to get someone into football trough my videos, wanted to make sure that was the case. Is there a problem with that?
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT Yes, read your comment properly. You may not be but the way you ask sounds rude or sarcastic. Wrong choice of words.
@@kitonaga3699 you're reading too deep into it
As a Benfica fan, he was one of my favorite players back then. He played a role in some of Real Madrid's wins but in terms of individual performance I would still say that the best season of his career, by far, was 2010-2011 at Benfica. He often gets praised for being a great full-back defensively, but he was also phenomenal offensively. Prime Coentrão would've thrived in modern football as a wing-back in the 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 systems. He was tireless and had the physical, defensive, and technical attributes to pretty much fill the whole left flank (full-back + winger roles) on his own oftentimes. I'm still convinced that if in 2011, when he left Benfica, he had left for literally any other team in the world (including the best Barcelona team of all time) he would've been an indisputable starter. But he went to Real Madrid, who had Marcelo, pretty much the only full-back in the world at the time who was good enough to bench him.
Obrigado por recordares o Coentrão. Excelente pessoa e um jogador impressionante, belas recordacoes na selecao e no Benfica.
So sad that injuries ruin lots of phenomenal talents.
LOL, he was in his 30's..oh and mallboros
@@Marco81blues that definitely calms the frustration for me, but some players get their careers ruined through no fault of their own.
Coentrao himself would be impressed by your video about him. You are honestly doing a great job.👍🏽
Die hard Benfiquista and Coentrao was always one of my favorite players. Even when he betrayed us to join the Lagartos, he still had a special place in my heart. Thank you for telling this great story!
As a Benfica fan of 35 years, I have the same feeling for Coentrao as I have for João Pinto.. The betrayal will always hurt.
@@immothebeardedguy5759 cmon João Pinto didn't betray you. Benfica betrayed him, he signed for life yet he was fired by benfica. So he was betrayed by benfica and he chose to play for Sporting with Jardel and won the Portuguese title so he chose wisely.
@@rocky1169pt best striker that can head the ball aka jardel

During his days he was easily one of the best Left Backs in the World. It still gives me goosebumps thinking that he even benched world class LB like Marcelo during many important Champions games.
Coentrao was honestly one of the best left backs of the last decade for those who grew up watching football in the 2010s. I had honestly wondered where the heck he went to after he had left Sporting, had no idea he had retired until I stumbled upon this video 😂 but I can't help but feel sad he wasn't able to be part of Portugal's Euro 2016 victory, if anyone deserves to win a trophy with his national team it's him
The only player i admire when he was at Real Madrid..and glad to see his story after those year that he disappeared…Fabio,i want u know,i love u no matter how u are now..wish u have a great life after this…
This man was one of my favorite footballers. It was sad seeing him going through so many injuries and his career fading away 😢
Dele ali is another one
Parabéns pelo canal rapaz. O conteúdo e a narração são excelentes. Um abraço da Nova Zelândia
one of my favorite player, its sad injuries ruined his career. i didnt knew his update, whats he doing recently,
thanks for the video man..
Great story on Coentrao's full circle and his personality.
I love your narration... And the passion behind that bring you about
Totally skipped over his performances at the 2010 World Cup. He was seriously the best player on that underperforming team.
I was there watching Portugal against Ivory Coast and against Spain - He was non existent
I still like the guy 🙂 He is a good footballer but didn't make a huge impact in that tournament ....
Eduardo was better tbf.
He deserves legendary status. That is all i have to say
Excelente vídeo. Fiquei com interesse em saber mais sobre a vida do Coentrão depois do futebol.
Amazing content on this channel - thank you for these deep dives into players that fly under the radar in my country.
I remember watching him those years at Madrid & Portugal & thought he was such an underrated player. But then he had a couple of injuries & then just disappeared. So thank you for creating this & telling his story. A bit of a sad ending but I hope he is doing well now & is content.
Portuguese footballer Fabio Coentrao boss is one of my favourite respective footballers and he was an extremely so fantastic midfielder as he was an underrated world class at that time and he was a Benfica,Nacional de Madeira,Real Madrid and Sporting Lisbon superstar to be a known as a legend soon to be remembered daily and ever in this world and other planets, good friends!!!For sure,he will be a legendary fisherman as well and my full support is on him and also long live to him, good friends!!!:-D

Amazing story of a Man who deserves much more but in the end he found his happiness which is much better than what the world can give him 🤙🏽

Amazing content ! Obrigado ! 👌🏼
I am surprised you didn't speak about his 2010 world cup which is the tournament that introduced him to the world and what triggered Real to buy him. Best left back at that tournament hands down. I did not like Mou dropping Marcelo for long periods but Contrao's form dropped off towards the end of his Real's career.
Exactly brother totally agree

He was my idol when i was u12 at my local academy i was a RB and him being LB i've liked him as a player not because of his Name but because of his playing style i never forgot the time that spent on internet cafe watching his skills for 30min foir just 2dollars i was trying to applicate those skills in video on pitch damn DUDE still my fav player till day
I'm not a Madrid fan but for some unknown reason I've always wanted Fabio to do well for Madrid, sad to see injuries suffocate his career. Hope he has wonderful life in his hometown.
Your storytelling skills is just magnificent bro! 🙌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🔥
He was also a great player in Benfica, before going to Madrid. But he always lacked professional mentality. He just didn't have it. And the injuries didn't help either.
Massively underrated. Great storytelling. Glad i can get to know of his background since i always remembered him to be a close friend of ronaldo at madrid

I was literally thinking about him thank you for the update
Coentrao was my favorite portugues left back whenever he played he gave his best , very glad he found peace and loves what he does .
Thanks for the gem 💎 of an update on Fabio Coentrao’s life. For a long time now I’ve been wondering where he is at and I saw him was Real Madrid. I had zero idea one of my favorite player is having life hard.
I missed him greatly on the pitch, but am glad he’s back to his root fishing for life. He is such a gem of player with skillful touch.
He has money, he started a fishing company that had like 5 boats last year. He does go in the sea often because he was raised that way, but not because he's out of cash. He just said on the interview he didn't want to stay at home doing nothing at his age.
Very good video one of my best channels keep the good job.. I love your accent

He's so humble, he's a better human being than most of us

Great respect from Germany ❤️
He kept being the human being he ever was ❤️❤️❤️👌🏻
It seems very strange that Ancelotti only used Coentrao in the "bigger/tougher" matches.
If he was so hood should he be a regular starter.
Probably couldn't risk aggravating injuries, among other reasons
Marcelo is a all rounded player, he is more technical and better at attacking compared to coentrao. Coentrao is bigger and tougher player, that made him perfect to play against equal to tougher teams, he would assert him self on that left side and anyone who would want to go by him would have to give his life for it.
Coentrão was a better defender than Marcelo but couldn't support the offense as well as Marcelo.
@@vitorc3 Marcelo could had been a number 10 in many champions league playing teams. He is that good.
This is a beautiful tribute. Greetings from Madrid!
I remember watching that Portugal vs Spain game when I was a kid. Coentrao was simply brilliant,
I remember him galloping down the Real left flank, his strides were long and elegant. I was a kid then so I remember him fondly.
Good luck always and best wishes to Fabio Coentrao!! From a Real Madrid fan from Belize central america
A legend even if for a short while. What a player
Another great video
Cool. You always see Ronaldo running to hug Coentrão in old Real Madrid highlight videos. Wondered what happened to him. Another great vid.
Yeah and also coming to training in the same car.
Full circle indeed!! Nice video
A player who not only had skill but was also so hard working and brave on the field. Good to see him enjoying life
Coentrao had that galmourous life that I used to daydream about when i was a high schooler. This brought me back to that 2010 summer. Cristiano and Coentrao were everywhere in articles and magazines
Coentrao está rico! Abriu negócio de pesca na sua terra Natal e da trabalho para muita gente!
I loved how he played for the best Real Madrid team in history. I love that he found peace and is doing good work and bettering the lives of everyone that saw him grow up. Fabio thanks for everything!
