They'll be showing this film at the National Gallery of Art in DC on September 23. I live in the suburbs of DC - I put on my calendar to go in and see the film.
Howard saved his own urine. He couldn't save this? Seriously, he had 50 prints struck of the producer's cut that were shipped out and had to be called back for recutting when he was refused seal of approval. Why didn't he keep, at the least, a reel of trims with the optical soundtrack present? Hell, forget this. Where the heck is "The Age for Love"? I don't understand how somebody can save their own urine but lose an entire picture they produced starring the great love of their life at the time. Clearly, he destroyed every copy of that one in a fit of a rage after Billie dumped him for refusing to have children, because there is no other rational explanation for why it is missing.
It always kills me when I see professional film archivists/restorers handling 80-90 year old film with their BARE HANDS. "Oh, I'll try to only touch the edges"....nope, doesn't work that way.

Great work, great documentary. (I could've used a bit less of that annoying elevator music underneath the whole video, though.)

Interesting stuff but the music needs to chill, those drums were pretty intense.
