You are right about price comparisons, except for things like the new superman from one 12 I mean this costs 3 times more, Neca looks almost better the electronics work better if there are some, and sometimes they even have almost the same number of accessories if you count just 2 pair of hands, seriously I don't see how people complain about the little bad little details that Neca can have from time to time they do this figures for a 3rd the price and sometimes they are better, to they are truly the exquisite action figure
Happy to help fellow Collectors out, I was a little unsure about what this guy was going to be like in hand, so I took a chance on it, its an ok Alien just wish they hadn't used the rubber body on him
I got mine on Christmas Eve and have yet to have any issues. I currently have the Mcfarlane and NECA big chaps as well, and I will say the Mezco one does have a premium feel in hand. The seamless body gives it a more elegant look. However, I bought it because Alien is my favorite film. If I was just a casual fan then I would say the 40th Anniversary NECA Big Chap is more than adequate.
I live in a hot and humid place. I collect a lot of different lines, many with soft goods. My collection room has shades down with a good dehumidifier running & temperature is maintained at 69°-70° Fahrenheit always. All the figures with soft goods and/or seamless silicone rubber are behind glass. Despite all of that, I'm worried that the Mezco Alien will begin to crack after a few years. It makes me worry for the seamless silicone body of the impending 'Mezco '89 Batman.
@@DeckyStrikesBack Yeah, it's been a long three years (last week) since the '89 Bats pre-order but I'm remaining cautiously optimistic about it until it arrives.
As well as that, there is the terrible way they've constructed the metal frame for this guy that leads to loose joints very fast (like within an hour). Check out the "Alien autopsy" video Strange Form made if you haven't seen it. I was already not sold on this figure because of the rubber parts, but now I would definitely recommend to avoid getting it unless you want the headache.
@@labyrinth6549 Yeah, I saw that the other day. I have to say though, I've had the Mez ONE:12 Big Chap for about a month now and have yet to have that issue. It seems to have been an issue with that particular reviewer's initial figure. I think I enjoy the novelty of the seamless body for it but I've got to give it to Neca, as I love their Alien & Predator figures and unlike my Mez Alien, I don't worry about them falling apart in 6 months to a year.
@@rickmease9531 Ah I see, yeah the bad hip joint was just on his version. It's still not what you want to see as a possible thing to happen on a Mezco 1:12 figure of all things. Like along with the possibility of the rubber cracking, there is the poorly designed joints that go loose underneath a sealed surface. Haha I completely agree about liking the NECA figures better. It feels like a shame Mezco didn't go the route of making just a regular sculpted figure with all the bells and whistles.
The font is wrong on the stand. I live in a temperate maritime climate, so have absolutely no worries on rubber figures. All my collection is in a cold, dry room. Ive had the RAH Medicom Alien figure for 10 years and has had no cracking. If you live in a hot dry climate there is still ways of keeping rubber supple without breaking the bank. My friend lives in Toronto and he says the climate is a continental climate, i really dont think you need to worry. Just keep an eye out on it. Hot toys rubber bodies have the same warnings, remember they aren't toys, you display these in a detolf or nice shelf in your room. The big chap has always looked the best in a museum pose, check some of the actual suits used in the movie, most of them are just standing straight up in exhibitions. The Neca alien figures are more like toys that can be played around with, just aslong as you are lucky and dont get a QC riddled mess, plus the joints dont last on them. The video was jumping a bit at the end. ps. TOOBS lol
I mean, to be fair, this figure is meant to be mostly for display purposes and I can understand why they went with the rubber body. I think if you are rather gentle with it overtime, it wont crack as easily. also, I've seen quite a lot of takes on the Big Chap and looking at the sculpting and detail I can easily say it's the best one I've seen thus far. despite some of it's minor flaws, this is still a quality figure.
In terms of aesthetics, the Alien Xenomorph looks really good. He's nicely sculpted, painted, and detailed. However, the extra chest plate is absolutely pointless. It's nothing, but a waste of plastic. The seamless body makes the figure look more natural. However, the longevity of the rubber material is questionable in the long run. Thanks, once again Spot for another wonderful video! I really appreciate it! God bless and stay safe!
An all too familiar situation of "good concept bad execution". It seems that Mezco is trying to be the 1:12 scale Hot Toys but due to the smaller scale fabric goods tend to pose a problem as it will hinder the articulations unless they make it thinner which in turn will be less durable. I think the issue with this Alien figure can be easily solve by just making a cut at the articulation joints allowing it more movement instead of making the skin seamless 🤔.
I like the figure a lot, it definitely has a weighty, high quality feel to it. The sculpt is great and really screen accurate. Where I feel they missed the mark was on the additional chest plate. It makes no sense as is but had they painted the cord/cable a metallic silver color and added some of the greenish yellow blood on the ribs for more of a screen accurate look, it could've been a great add on. Time to break out the brushes I guess.
I preordered this from BBTS and they had a $10 non refundable deposit so I didn’t want to lose it. It’s my fault but I am disappointed in this. My 7 year old has the NECA version. I may switch them out.
@@TheReviewSpotyeah. The actual costume was split into a lower and upper half in latex… the pant leg openings overlap the “boots” and also replicate details. Im stuck between getting this one and the NECA. I’m willing to shell out the extra cash if one looks better. The accessories are important too. On one hand, the facehugger on the Mezco looks cooler but the NECA egg is better detailed. Maybe I’ll get both 😆
the only thing that has really prevented me from getting more of these and reviewing them is really the price point that they go to, at 100+ each, I can either get one of these or like 2-3 NECA figures
Hey i just wanna say thanks because i was a little bit on edge if i wanted to buy it but now i dont really want to because of that rubber i think i am gonna stick to neca when it comes to alien figures👍
It's a nice Xeno, but..... Details! The inner jaw is COMPLETELY the wrong colour. At the end of the movie, it extends it, and you actually see its a cream/bone colour, not black. The font on the stand, that is just the ALIENS title with the S removed. Bit lazy, and doesn't look right. The "cable" chest plate. Hmmmm. If I got this, I'd have it as part of a diorama, the back of the Narcissus, hatch closed, my Ripley in White Suit looking out (I've actually scratch built a Narcissus before, so to build a rear section isn't a biggie) building a Narcissus isn't hard if you use the Alien Blueprints book......and LOTS of styrene sheet!
I would have grabbed a few of these but in all honesty 100 bucks ? Yeah , just a bit much for these . Even at mezcos 70 - 80 price tag they where really pushing the envelope. It's a shame because they make some decent product but in the long run they won't sell many because of that price point fact . I'd personally as a company sell them for a 60 dollar price point to get more sales out the door then have them collect dust on shelves waiting for clearance.
Owning a loose Neca big chap and the 40th Anniversary Ultimate, they stand head and shoulders over this Mezco one, literally! The Neco big chap is about 9 inches tall and very spindley just like it was in the film. The Mezco one looks too squat and small, looks more like a kids play figure than a collector's item. And as you pointed out, the price of the Mezco figures over Neca is a joke!! Yes, the bodies of the Mezco figures are a bit sturdier than the easily snappable and fragile Neca ones but the Neca sculpts are far superior imo for a third of the price. I've only got one Mezco figure and that's the year one Batman but it's really quite small and definitely not worth the price I paid (only bought it because it is a really cool looking figure). I doubt I'll be buying any more, unless the price drops dramatically.
To be fair to Mezco, NECA's offerings aren't exactly 1/12 scale. They are a slightly biiger scale. But I also have to agree they've gotten so good that for $30-$40 you do get a lot. I recently got their Alpha Predator and I was super impressed by him. Makes it hard to justify spending more than double that on a figure that doesn't immediately blow NECA out of the water.
Heeeeyyyy there's something weird about that baggie, why does everyone talks about it in their videos like 5 minutes ? It's just a plastic bag? Do they send it to the reviewers filled with white dust ornsomethinf
Mezco needs to take away the "play" phrase out of their products then especially if you're a guy who poses your figures for photography or stop motion projects. Definitely just saved me $100; I'll go with the Neca Big Chap.
In terms of movie accuracy, I guess each figure has something that the other doesn't. Neca's Big Chap's dome is indeed more movie accurate (a silver white hue vs. Mezco darker colour) as well as the inner jaw (the dark colour Mezco went for is not what we see in the movie at all). However, Mezco did a better job at reproducing the xenomorph costume to the point of including the folds (similarly to Kotobukiya's masterpiece 1/12 scale statue) while Neca's ultimate edition version has the "tiger stripes" on the legs which this figure lacks. But in my opinion, in you consider the price to quality ratio, Neca is and will probably remain unbeaten for a long time.
I think mezco took the wrong route with this figure. The wrists and ankles are terrible, the logo on the base is wrong (from Aliens), and good god that rubber suit. Sorry, mezco. No thanks. I agree about the chest piece, too. Total waste.
I don't see this figure selling very well. Neca figures are half the price and look better. If I was to start collecting Alien and predator again I would buy 2 neca aliens instead of this way overpriced fig.
25 bucks figure with 20 bucks accesories, way too small and inaccurate, alien head put on a regular person ,badejo body type was way different. nobody can match kotobukiya figure!
