I have the translucent one on order. I have a love for that original design we never saw on screen. And like you mentioned there are so many big chaps, it’s hard to justify dropping $100 on another 1/12 without having something unique to it. Kotobukiya hands down did the best work at that scale. I would truly love to see more 1/6 scales come out from anyone at this point.

So, I saw your dissection of this figure. With the amount of 89 Batman that was sold, that joint issue will probably happen. You said to make a small incision to tighten up, but how would you hold the nut on the opposite side?
Pressure from your finger should be enough to hold it in place. Meaning pushing your finger into the rubber on the opposite side while tightening the screw down. You don't need terribly much torque to get the joint to hold position (but on the opposite side, just a little loosening will render it useless).
Just picked this up on sale from big bad toy store... I'm still a little nervous about the rubber overlay but it looks impressive for sure. I have a few neca big chaps but it's hard to pass up a miniaturized version of the movie costume
Excellent review and I am dead on with you about lack of 1/6 scale Big Chaps. This guy looks nice, and if HT made one like this, but 1/6, I would own one. With a better mouth of course. Great and telling review! Helps me a bunch!
Now that it's been a year... How does the body hold up? Also, hast it grabbed any dust? And if so, could you clean it somehow without ruining the gloss?
@lautaroasis60 There is rubber rot on the tail (where it connects to the butt), so the tail is detaching. The dust hasn't been a problem because after the first one broke, I only took the replacement out of the box once, and the rubber degraded just sitting on the shelf in its package. This thing is like getting flowers, pretty to look at but doesn't last. Ironically, the white one that nobody bought is holding up a lot better. That one seems to be a different formula for the rubber.
If you’re still deciding I’d advise against it unless you don’t really ever plan on posing it again, in fact you’d likely be better off posing it how you want it before you painted it. With it being rubber the chances of you finding a primer and a sealer that would actually work on rubber so that the paint didn’t chip or crack I feel is pretty unlikely. I just don’t think it’d be worth it in the long run, the second you bend those painted rubber arms or legs wave goodbye to your hard work, it’s very very likely it’s going to chip, flake off or crack. But if you only plan on posing it once and leaving it on the shelf go for it, I would just pose it as close to how you want it before you paint it and paint it while it’s in that pose, otherwise again I don’t see a scenario where it’s not going to chip off immediately or imminently. Good luck with whatever you do though, and if you painted it already I sure hope I’m completely wrong.
When you put it next to the Koto, thats when I realized the Koto is not only beautiful, but all other versions of the Big Chap are flawed, I hope in my lifetime for a couple things action figure wise: smaller scale figures with poseable fingers that won't break, and something like a Koto that could move. It is stark.
In your hot toys Aliens video, you recommended that you paint the Dog Alien with Mod Podge to protect the rubber. Would it work for this figure too to protect it?
This is a hard one because the rubber body is not simply a thin rubber covering, wrapped around a large frame (Like the dog alien), but rather one big rubber piece with a very thin Armature inside, so when one part moves every part moves, causing any protective coating to most likely crack. Especially if you pose it a lot. I haven't tried this but I wonder if something along the lines of Plasti Dip clear coat would work better, it definitely works well with latex masks that have to be stretched and deformed often. I might test some on the destroyed Alien and see if it deforms or corrodes the rubber in any way, and if I do I will report back.
@@strangeform I see, I should receive mine this week so I do not have it hand yet. I do use an acrylic gloss varnish for some latex mask customizing, which adds some protective layer to the paint but I don't know if it would help with rubber degradation at all. If you do decide to experiment on your first Alien, please do report and thank you for the response.
Awesome can't wait. Picked up Aliens 1/6 from Hot Toys paied with Ripley . I have the Kotobokyia as well it's great.Honeyst the Revoltech released years ago is also great. Agreed Hot Toys needs to release a Big Chap 2.0 and drop the rubber suit although I haven't had one issue with my Aliens Warrior but do not mess with mouth gimmick
It's so strange how hot toys knocked it out of the park with the Aliens warrior but fell flat on their face with the big chap. If not hot toys, I would love to see threezero take a swing at a 1/6th chap.
If some of you remember, Mezco suggested before the release of this figure that the alien's costume would be a polymer-polysaccharides material which puzzled me ever since I've read about it. Clearly, they have used the original 1979 Alien film facehugger autopsy scene where Ash claims that the facehugger has a polymer-polysaccharides outer skin (which it replaces with polarised silicone) but to actually state this for a figure to be released seems odd at the least. Rubber =/ their claim.
I have two, both the Aliens one and the resurrection one. I give a short review of her in my first hiya queen review. The Neca queen is definitely the best queen figure produced to date.
@Jonathan M. I've been on the fence about that one. I really haven't collected anything from the comics or the games....which is funny because I have been collecting the comics since they first started hitting the shelves in 1988 (that and now comics Terminator). And honestly, I think after Aliens, the dark horse stories are better than any of the following movies. There are a lot of film writers that have an inflated sense of them selves, but are out performed in every way by their comic writing counterparts.
Great review! Still on the fence about this one. After this review and the great shots, definitely leaning a bit more towards buying it. Snatched up the Predator on BBTS cuz it looked like the supplies were dwindling, but the stock on this one still seems high. I’ve been waiting for some more reviews to convince me. Thanks!
My thinking on it is, if you don't have any big chap figures in this scale, this is definitely the one to get. But there are so many small to medium alien figures that if I could only own one mezco, I would go with the translucent "concept" version as that would be a unique display piece among the others.
is there a way to discern a "bootleg" figures from original ones? There are tons of neca cheap figures on aliexpress but I see original photos with real photos of the boxed figures and I think they are not the same... I am dying to buy a Celtic predator and alien warrior from the AVP line... Really good quality and edit, BTW. I think its the best from the ones I watched in the figures review genre yet. The voice, demeanor, good description, and wording. Good job. But why are all those figures so fucking expensive ::( I ordered Ultimate Lost Predator and Fireteam Runner Alien and I am going broke into the New Year.
Hey, when I first started collecting figures, they were $10 for a mcfarlane, and people thought $100 for a hot toys was ridiculous. The prices are definitely out of control. As for bootlegs, it is hard to say. I have a few bootlegs that have a better paint job than the real deal, including an AVP grid. If it's coming directly from China, it is most definitely a knock off, you can also tell by the packaging, the clam shell should have an even thick crimping all the way around the edges. Also you can tell by the print on the insert, it will be dull, not sharp (especially the red slash through the zero to three symbol). Also I would not trust aliexpress for originals, I would go ebay, mecari, or yahoo japan. That being said, the "copy" neca stuff usually comes from the original molds, so if you get it cheap and you are happy with it, I suppose it's not a terribly bad deal. If you buy from Ms Mousse on ebay you are definitely going to get a knock off, but I have gotten several figures from her, and they have been indistinguishable from my originals.
@@strangeform Thank you for the reply. I am looking for AVP 2 Alien at the moment but no luck in a decent price range for me :( And buying from China seems... well, cheap ;) Do you have a bulletproof method to finding things that are not so rare?
@Hangmans Tree bulletproof? No. Unfortunately, in the collectibles game, there is always going to be some risk. But, I have seen several neca avp aliens on Yahoo japan going for good prices.
awesome review and killer channel, you got a sub from me! i’m looking for my definitive 1/12 big chap and was debating this mezco or the mafex, as the mafex ranked quite high on your list. they’re both similar in price and size and i collect both lines, what would you recommend?
Honestly, I would suggest this one. I love the mafex, but it is fragile. This one is built like a brick house. And, evry so often you see the mafex go on sale for around $60, if you see it at that price, snap it up, but for now, this one has bumped mafex to 3rd place and I have a feeling it is only going to go up in price. My only major concern is the rubber, I wish I could see into the future, but I guess we will all find out.
Koto version is a piece of art

Yep, and with the sheer amount of us looking for a good 1/6th, I'm surprised no one has jumped on it... I mean, they are leaving money on the table.
GREAT review. Very relaxing.
Very good video keep it up.

I was going to go with an NECA Ultimate 40th Anniversary Big Chap for my Nostromo build update, but this has me doubting that decision,

How was the articulation on it? I don't see many reviewers touching the point as its either not good or rather few think its does need articulation :D
