I had the surgery a few days ago here in Sarasota at the Silverstein Institute. They remove the bandages next week. My insurance covers the procedure. It’s a little painful but Tylenol helps. Dr. Silverstein is an AMAZING musician and considered one of the best ENT surgeons in this world. I have lost a decade of my life to hyperacusis, literally hiding from sound, unable to enjoy being around people in a noisy environment like a restaurant or a bar. Ironically, I had an amazing career as an audio engineer before hyperacusis destroyed my life. If this surgery is successful I will pay it forward and cover the cost for some poor soul who can’t afford it. Onward and upward!

You can ask me any questions here, in public. I don’t give my personal contact information out to strangers, especially beautiful blondes.

I’m feeling ok, the recovery period lasts about eight days and I have been using prescription Tylenol with codeine for the pain which is not severe, just discomfort. My ear has been bleeding a little, I am changing the cotton ball bandage three times a day. The deep ear plug bandage gets removed in two days and then they run lots more hearing tests to determine any improvement in sound tolerance, also to see if there is any hearing loss caused by the procedure. I’m feeling confident that they know what they are doing. Silverstein is a great musician and surgeon, he has my respect. I will let you know how it goes, any improvement will be such relief. Hyperacusis is such a horrible disability. It destroyed my career and rendered me a depressed, suicidal wretch, unable to enjoy being around people or even an active bird feeder. Yoga, exercise and quietly playing acoustic guitar got me through my lost decade. I live on a farm in the wilderness and cannot imagine living in a noisy city with hyperacusis. I will keep you posted.

I had tinnitus for years in my left ear. Back in November a gun blast damaged my left year. The tinnitus is still there but I also have hyperacusis now. It has been debilitating and affected my quality of life tremendously. Loud noises are like electric distortion into my brain. Normal sounds are uncomfortable to the point I have to keep my left ear turned away. Driving is miserable now. Sound just ricochets off the window right into my ear. Every bump on the road is a shock. My music career came to an end. I can't go on like this, and desperately need some relief.

Hey so sorry to know what you are dealing with. The surgery was not successful for me. Once the swelling went down the hyperacusis came back. It was caused by acoustic shock, an explosion at work did the initial damage, then a single shot from a .300 Winchester magnum brought on the sound of a dentist drill and hyperacusis in my left ear. My right ear is normal. There is no miracle cure that I am aware of. Pink noise therapy is the most common method. You need to deal with the depression first and foremost. I know from experience that alcohol makes depression worse. Stay away from Xanax and benzodiazepines as they are addictive and horrible for your health. Exercise, breath work, meditation helps. Also consider psychedelics in a controlled setting with a certified guide to deal with the crushing depression. Noise canceling ear buds with pink or brown noise helps in noisy environments. It’s been ten years and i am still here. I’m getting better at dealing with this but it’s not been easy. I don’t go to jam sessions anymore but still write music and play quietly every night.

The healing rate of my Tinnitus the very first time I apply and use Dr Madida medicine gave me a good impression that it is gonna work and it did work because right now I don't longer experience Tinnitus Effects anymore that I use to experience because the conditions is completely gone.
