    Favorite scene is when Dennis Dugan is surrounded by the werewolves. Marsha’s brother begins to change in order to attack him and Dugan shoots him. The expressions on the rest of the werewolve’s faces is priceless. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    (A) Holy cow this movie is 40 years old now! I remember watching this on VHS in 1990 with my mom. (B) Oh man you forget how good a horror movie this was. You only ever really think of "An American Werewolf in London" with it's amazing transformation. You kind of forget about this one.

    • @Jprager
      @Jprager 2 роки тому

      You saw this with your mom? Omg were y’all accustomed to the graphic/sexual undertones? I think American Werewolf benefits from being more of an epic story, Howling banks more off the isolation and gritty setting, whereas with the prior you get more of an unraveling and faster pace

    Oh Ian, I remember that movie too An Astronaut in "King Arthur's Court" I haven't seen it in years. In truth if Rick Baker hadn't taken his talent to do the "Howling" John Landis would still be waiting to do "American Werewolf in London" so Landis should consider it a blessing in disguise while still thinking Baker betrayed him. Baker should've said "Hey man I was kept waiting until you were able to do your dream project did you expect me to wait forever? Dude, you should be thanking me for getting things underway."

    Fun Fact: in 1980 siskel & ebert did a special entitled "women in danger" about the "explosion" of low budget horror/slasher flicks that was taking over cinema at the time and how women were being "exploited"in the genre.
    They included clips of the howling in the special despite not having actually seen the movie.

      The funniest part of the whole thing is that right at the end of the special after they've spent 30 minutes pontificating from their moral high horses they completely undo the entire thesis of the special by exposing the fact that they were really mad about the fact that they didn't understand the appeal of slasher movies or that the main audience for them was teen girls and young women.

    “Cat People” is a really messed up movie but it’s a unique twist on the “cursed transformation” theme. Sadly, we have yet to see a werewolf vs cat person movie - but we did technically got a vs battle in the new remake of “The Wolfman” which is actually very good indeed and one of my go-to horror movies. BTW, I’d love to see you guys review “The Company of Wolves”.

    On the topic of silent films being destroyed by fire: the celluloid they were printed on in the late 1800s and early 1900s was literally made from dynamite and was _HIGHLY_ flammable. Most silent films have been lost due to fire. There's a fascinating documentary called Dawson City: Frozen Time that revisits a lot of old silent movies that were preserved because they were thrown into the river in the Yukon Territory (literally just thrown away in the river) during the gold rush era and subsequently frozen and preserved.

    The Howling is one of my favorite Werewolf films of all time! Next to American Werewolf In London, and of course, the original 1941 film! Why? Well, aside from them being GREAT films! It's also because of the AWESOME practical effects of the transformations! Also, a great shout out to the Werewolf transformation scene from the 1985 Fright Night film, when Evil Ed transformed into a Werewolf too! That was great! If Hollywood ever does another Werewolf movie in the future, you know the transformation scene is going to be shitty CGI bullshit. Another cult classic this one. Remember renting this out in the local blockbusters years ago and always enjoyed it. Not in the same league as An American Werewolf in London but in fairness not many are. Great review as always guy's and keep them coming.
