  • Thank you to Monica for sending in her pics for her flight simulator, I'd love to see yours as well, send your pics to matthew@keystonemethod.com so we can have a looksee!
This flight sim is predominantly a Cessna 182 with panel by Altimeter Motives, a lot of gear from RealSimGear (links listed below), the Honeycomb Alpha with Saitech TPM unit and Switch Panel by AviationTrainingFoundation.com (pilotshop.io).
A beautiful rig to be even further developed as time goes on.... that's the beauty of flight simming, you can continue to build and create and evolve your rig and it keeps things real!

Looks great, though I am not sure I agree that an RTX 3060 is suitable for any simulator. For single screens its fine. Triple screen as shown here is another story. XP11 can probably do triple screen with a 3060, but I think MSFS and XP12 will be too demanding for triple screen.

Yea, i met a guy at my local EAA chapter meetup the other night who has a pretty cool flight sim going, and he has a PC going for each monitor in his setup, (which I didn't even know was a thing), so he basically networks the computers together to a mainframe (the PC running x-plane), and can set each monitor appropriately. Had no idea that was even a thing.... I can't imagine running 3 PC's on my setup, but that explains why my RAM is maxed out on one PC, lol....

@flightsimguides I am in the process of setting up my x-plane flight sim with 5 PCs. One master PC running flight model and controls and the other 4 for visuals. I will have 180 degrees of view. X-plane makes it really easy to set up. At the moment I have just been testing performance. Nothing is actually put together yet. But I think I can run XP12 at very high settings this way.

@@flightsimdeskuk how complex are each of your PCs? That would get expensive real fast….

@flightsimguides The one running the flight model (master) was a PC I got on ebay for £150. It has i3 10105F and GTX 1650. The front screen is my gaming PC with Ryzen 5800X3D and RTX 3080 Ti. The other three PCs, for side screens, are running as virtual machines on a Ryzen 5950X PC with a used Quadro RTX 4000 assigned to each (single slot cards that are similar speed to RTX 3060). So really it's 3 PCs acting as 5. All of those PCs together are cheaper than buying a single high end PC with RTX 4090

When I got the 3060, I hadn't even planned on building a cockpit, let alone with three screens. Running single monitor, I can have my settings maxed out and still get good frame rates. Adding three screens plus the avionics really puts a load on the system, and I have to turn most of my settings down, but it is doable and still get acceptable frames. But I have to turn them down low enough where it isn't as enjoyable. I do intend on upgrading not only the gpu, but the whole computer as well. I would like to add a second computer to the setup, just haven't learned how to network them yet. But my biggest upgrade will be changing out the 32" monitors for 50" TV's, which is going to be my next upgrade. This particular cockpit was really meant to be a proof of concept to see how easy and how affordable it is to make it like I want, and let me tell you, it was surprisingly easy and affordable.

The panel from Altimeter Motives does not come with the monitor. That has to be purchased separately. Altimeter Motives does give recommendations for the monitor. I should have sent pictures of the Saitek TPM which is mounted under the glove box. Thank you for sharing my panel on your channel.

N85988 I'm assuming is Monica, ... replied back .. "the Monitor is not included!" The Gen2 panels requires a 24 inch (23.8") monitor and the "Air Manager" Program (to display the gauges on the panel). However, Altimeter Motives does sell the SixPackPlus Instrument Panel (and like the name says, displays the six Pack... Plus a smaller size Tachometer gauge, a small clock/volts gauge, and the small rectangular LED Plaque displaying the "plane's call sign". The SixPackPlus DOES INCLUDE an Integral Monitor ... not sure of it's size but definitely smaller than the 24" monitor required for the Gen2 panels, ... I'm guessing 21" or smaller? A 24" monitor for the Gen2 will set you back an extra $110 to $130, but the Gen2 panel is much better equipped for a small amount more (not counting the extra $ for the monitor). The SixPack Plus will mount to your yoke and is definitely a space saver. Your Choice!
